New invoicing - Auto adjust the column width when additional columns are added

On the new invoicing, when additional columns are selected, a scrollbar is added to the invoice layout and interrupts the smooth capture process. Having to manually scroll from one side to the other to view details is not ideal.

Consider either auto-adjusting the column widths or allow for the automatic expansion of the invoice layout width when additional columns are selected. This way, users could view all necessary details without the need for manual scrolling.

Hi all, we thank you for all sharing detail on your experience when using new invoicing in Xero. Taking this on board our team have been reviewing the line item grid where you enter details in new invoicing. We have work underway to improve and address points raised such as providing a more compact layout so you can see more at once, showing full account and tracking names, and more direct options to reduce clicks and steps in common actions.

For the time being, small adjustments can be made to your computer scale or browser zooming to see more detail at once, although we understand this is not the ideal solution.

I'll return to let you know when we're closer to release and can share more of the changes.

    Make new invoicing fit on one screen - currently classic fits on one screen and is easy to use. Reduce the need to scroll and zoom/unzoom to have a consistent sizing approach across all invoicing/billing/reporting

    Most of the description of account name are long. Would request that the text is wrapped. This is so that we can see everything to reduce the chance of wrong account name is chosen.

    Very important because we have multiple accounts with same starting name so it will be difficult if we cannot see the full chart of account name.

    If Xero would like to do a video call with me I'd be happy to show them all the issues I'm having also with the new system. I've put comments and issue details everywhere also. I completely agree EXTEND the Classic version until all of these issues have been resolved. CONTACT YOUR CLIENTS & have video calls with them to see all the problems before forcing us into this new version.

    Not happy with this new invoicing for all the points raised below. Today I had a video call with Xero to highlight the problems after messaging on how to make the new invoicing system work for our business and even they saw the issues.

    Xero please extend the classic invoicing until this problem is fixed and tested by actual users out in the field.

    Xero looks like a joke on a 4K monitor. You cannot resize columns, and in my case it's actually really important.
    I made a mistake by selecting 'reverse charge expenses 0%' instead of 'reverse charge expenses 20%' tax account, and I cannot see this at a glance because it's cropped.
    Please, it's a feature of 1999. PLEASE PLEASE introduce resizing, it's not that hard to implement!!!

    Extremely important as the new invoices no longer wrap the information so half of the writing disappears until you save the invoice and then have to check it is all correct relating to the allocated account and the correct gst code has been processed. Basically the new invoice look is over complicated and less usable.

    How do I remove the columns? I set the ones I want to display but that only removes them in edit, not in display view.
    Oh, and there are 2 project columns!

    Are you serious? I need to make my screen so small I can't see the text, just so I can see the whole invoice? I use a Macbook Air at times, this will make it impossible to do invoicing when I'm away from my office. I'm never getting a holiday ever again if this is the only way to fix this.
    Xero is ****.

    Not sure who is making the decisions as to what to change when making "improvements" but xero needs to get more input from experienced users before making changes. Not showing tracking codes in the invoice view before opening an invoice to edit it, is a critical error for us who use tracking all the time.

    I would just be happy if the new Invoicing would remember my column layout between sessions (aka which columns are selected/hidden).
    Preferrably this would be stored against my Xero user (not as a 'browser cookie') so it was consistant across devices.

    I would love it if additional columns could be added and the option to print the invoice horizontally, as I need to add Nappi codes

    The way Account, Tax rate and Tracking codes are shown under the main line of the invoice needs to be fixed too. Ideally all the information for one line of invoicing shown be shown on the SAME ROW in tabular format.

    Not underneath and in a smaller font like the info is less important. It is important. Just because this information doesn't appear on the pdf version of the invoice that is sent to the customer, doesn't mean it's not as important.

    The way this information is shown seems to be an afterthought/quick fix which makes a mockery of accessible fonts, but also makes the invoice really hard to check for accuracy.

    I would use the new invoicing if it would fit on my narrow screen. I have one screen that is vertical and old invoicing fits on this screen but new invoicing makes me scroll to see all items.

    Ideally would like to be able to have option to adjust column width (Or decrease font size as also suggested below). Most of our clients copy invoices and the narrow width of the account column makes it difficult for them to check the allocations without clicking into each cell.

    New Invoicing - Column Width or Wrap Text

    In old invoicing the Account and Tax Rate columns were wide enough and/or the text wrapped so you could see the whole thing on the screen.

    In new invoicing, that does not happen. I have 2 tax rates for each customer, taxable and non-taxable. When I tab into that box, I can select the correct tax rate, but I can not see it on the screen to double check I have selected the correct one.

    The screenshots show the differences. One line has the taxable rate and 2 lines have the non-taxable rate for the locality.
