New Invoicing - Typeable dates in Date fields
On the old invoices/bills I could type "18/2/23" and it would auto fill 18th February 2023. Now I have to scroll back multiple months to get there. It would be good if I could type in the date field boxes again. Specifically on "Add Payment"

We're pleased to announce that with our latest update you have the ability to directly type dates when making payments on invoices! We know this was a highly requested feature, and we appreciate everyone who voted and shared their input.
For those familiar with our Xero Central article on keyboard shortcuts, you'll be happy to know that all those shortcuts are now fully functional in this date field, as well as all other date fields throughout your invoices.
While a direct dropdown for "yesterday" isn't available, you can quickly enter the previous day's date by typing 't-1'.
As this update delivers the majority of the changes discussed in this idea, we'll now mark it as delivered.
We also heard the feedback from some users who prefer to use a full stop (.) as a date separator instead of the forward slash (/) or hyphen (-). There's a specific idea, to track interest in this preference - If this is important to you, please add your vote there so we can gauge the demand. While we don't have immediate plans, we'll be monitoring the interest and will provide updates if our plans change.
Thank you all for your valuable contributions and for supporting the features you'd like to see in Xero product ideas. Your feedback is essential!

Hi Sam - this is frustrating. It almost seems as if they do not test the changes they make before releasing them which is scary.
They totally lack any form of rigger in the system they develop. As I have said before, the development team seems to be out of control, and this type of thing really undermines the user conference in their work.

Kelly Munro - FYI, typing the date has a bunch of bugs.
Last night, I had invoices with a due date 30 Jun 2024 and I was trying to update to 23 Jul 2024 and no matter what I typed (23, 23/7, 23/07, 23/07/2024) it would change it to 23 Jun 2024, lol.
Today with Xero Support, we found if I type a date and am changing the month but not the day, it won't update at all.
If I type only the day (in old invoicing this would default to that day in current month, e.g. if I type '15' today, the 10 July 2024, it would default to 15 July 2024), it will default to that day in the invoice month rather than this month.
Hilarious.

It's completely absurd that you remove a perfectly functional way of entering a payment, that only requires keystokes with a method that now requires keystrokes, picking up a mouse, clicking little arrows (and missing), more keystrokes, more drop boxes. Making life so much harder for book-keepers. Every 'upgrade' seems to reduce ease of use and functionality.
Please discuss changes with the people who use Xero every day!!!!! -

We add invoices daily and this is going to slow us down tremendously. This is not progress this is going backward and is not very user friendly.

Same for choosing payment account. On classic invoicing I type the amount, tab to date , type the 2 digit date, tab to account, type 1 to 7 to choose the right account, then click add. It annoys me I can't tab to the add payment button and enter it.
Now I have to click add payment to get the useless payment overlay up. Then click three times to enter the date. Then click twice to choose account. Then click and change the amount. It's just so much extra work that is not necessary.

It would be interesting to talk with the people who designed the new invoicing system interface and ask them why they would change the interface so much by removing existing functionality?
Users would easily move to a newer system as you're changing the underlying api's to move to a better more expandable and efficient system right?
Well, if that is the case, why have your developers ignored users by removing existing functionality or changing it to the point where it is no longer user-friendly.
Users will resist change - especially if that change is going to increase time to perform a task. The person in charge of the UI needs to be sat down and spoken with.

It would also be great to see a "yesterday" in the drop down as I'm sure a lot of invoicing is processed on the day after the work done.

What's more, requiring mouse input means that this is not Accessible to anyone who doesn't use a mouse (for example, me both times I had wrist surgery. Or someone who uses a screen reader instead)

On the awful new invoicing layout, you can't type the date anymore, you can only click through the calendar. It is so much quicker and easier to be able to type the date like you used to be able to (and in any format... i.e. 03.05.24 or 03.05 or 03.05.2024 or 03/05/24 or 03/05 or 03/05/2024)

Moving towards inefficient entry methods makes my blood boil.
A developer sets it up, thinks it 'looks nice' and moves along.
Whereas we, the end user, could be entering a large number of invoices in one batch into the system and to have to switch between keyboard and mouse when a simple tab or number entry would hasten input is important.
Time is money.
Each excessive keypress or hand movement costs us time and therefore money.
Please THINK about your end user.

Agreed - being forced to use a mouse to use a dropdown calendar is an inefficiency compared to using a keyboard to type dates.

Dropdown calendar is an additional burden in New Invoicing. Please revert to classic invoicing style for this field.

In Old Invoicing for the date field you could type in +0 or +7 for the due date but in new Invoicing you aren't able to do this.
Please bring back this feature back as it saves time -

calendar hardly be quicker for a professional, it adds up significant time when deal with repetitive tasks during the day,

When entering payments on New Invoicing it would be better to be able to overtype payment date rather than selecting the date from the calendar dropdown. It takes too long to do it like this. You can overtype on Old Invoicing.
