UK Payroll - Adjust dates for holiday / statutory leave year
We should be able to adjust the holiday year to the UK tax year as that seems to be very common. ( There is already a discussion topic for this but I cannot see it on this list.
We should also be able to show holidays in days not hours.
We should be able to calculate holiday hours for employees that do not do a 5 day week. The hours taken on holiday need to be overwritten every time a PT employee books time off.
Hi community, happy to share that these changes have now been released in UK Payroll! 🎉 You now have the ability to set employee's leave to accrue based on a custom date of your choosing. We appreciate your inputs and based on the feedback we've made a change so that leave will now accrue on the first day of your annual accrual method.

This is very important!! As a business we have been unable to use this leave function since starting Xero 7+ years ago. Please can this be sorted ASAP

As a lot of companies financial year from 1st April - 31st March, it would be really good if all payroll features supported this. I have just tried to add leave and all I can choose is either their start date or 1st January. I believe it is essential to be able to choose the start date to that of your accounting period and it seems very strange to me that this is not a possibility

Any update Xero??

This has been under review for a number of years now. The system is flawed by not allowing the option to allocate holidays by days and from Company own holiday period. When will there be an update? Thanks

This would be very useful as we have a holiday rollover date of the 1st of November (historical). But would love to be able to adjust this in Xero.

It would be useful to be able to set the annual leave start date for the whole company . Currently. the options are preset in UK to 1st January or anniversary of Employees start date . My client wishes to use the start of the financial year.

@Kelly
You were quick to amend the title! No one seems to actually bother to implement improvements especially on Payroll.
Multiple ‘ideas’ critical to the successful running of payroll (some with legal requirements) are being ignored. We are looking to moving away from Xero especially as Wise transfers are now being stopped without anything new to replace it in place -

You should be able to set the holiday year at any date required. Fixing to Jan 1st makes no sense to I suspect 99% of British employers!
I also agree with the other idea regarding holiday s in days (how is an employee supposed to understand what 4.6389 hours means?).
Regarding holidays for PT employees - I use the 12.07% calculation to accrue but also have to manually adjust the hours actually booked off. It would be useful to have a working week with days and hours per day available.

Our holiday year begins in September so it would be very useful to be able to adjust the holiday year, perhaps to correspond with the business's financial year

This would make a massive difference as we have staff that have different holiday years, for example Jan - Dec or April to March

So it didn't give me an option - as I had hoped, 'someone has posted a similar idea' so thus it has duplicated it. Will now be interesting to see how long a Xero moderator updates it with a link perhaps the the idea thats probably been kicking around since Xero started in the UK.
And for the benefit of another idea I've posted elsewhere I should really have been able to define when posting the idea if this is likely to be country specific or unknown. For me it is unknown, but I suspect that in AU all leave years are calendar years. -

I know this is set elsewhere as an idea (but can't for the life of me find it with this simple search). Thus am posting this as idea to see if the software directs me to the idea or just lets me duplicate it.
As I understand it the leave year is calendar. This is nuts and clearly a country thing I suspect. Every company should be able to set its own leave year start and end date. -

If this would align with our holiday year, we think we could leave another product we just use for this, and then have expenses (we use Xero) and holiday requests in the same place. We'd even be happy to pay the saving into having that feature.

please can this be adjusted to tax year or any dates that companies may use

Alot of UK companies run their holiday year in line with the tax year and only having the option for the calendar year is short sighted. This would be a big step forward. I like xero payroll with the exception of the leave section which is very weak.
