  1. It would be great it we could select a report from Xero Blue and attach it to a workpaper - eg. Aged Receivables Summary Report to Accounts Receivable. Currently you have to export the report and link. It would save time if you could directly link the report (preferably as a static PDF or to the spreadsheet section?

Thanks for sharing your support and feedback on how Workpapers would be more useful in your practice. We’re pleased to share that this capability is now available in Xero’s new Workpapers solution.

In the new Workpapers product, practices can manually attach available Xero reports to an account line or workpaper. You'll also be able to manually “Refresh” reports in Workpapers.

Furthermore, with Xero Workpapers Plus, you can configure report mappings in Settings, so mapped reports are automatically attached when packs are generated!

Not every Xero report is available yet, but the list will continue to grow.

Find out more detail in Xero Central. 😁

  2. Is a GST workpaper being developed or would there be one similar to the GST workpaper in exisiting workpapers? We are onboarding staff to old workpapers so having similar or improved workpapers would be useful.

Hi everyone, we appreciate your continued feedback.

We’ve now released a GST Reconciliation worksheet in New Xero Workpapers for AU that automatically sets the GST basis and frequency from your client’s Xero organisation Financial settings page.

The worksheet includes a GST position at period-end, with monthly or quarterly sections based on your client’s GST frequency, so you can reconcile GST on Sales and GST on Purchases to what was lodged and record notes for variances.

It also includes a GST payable reconciliation worksheet to support the GST account balance on the Xero balance sheet.

We also have intentions to enhance this worksheet over the coming months - like auto populating GST on Sales, GST on Purchases and lodged figures from Xero.

Thanks again for your support and sharing on this with us here.

  3. Preparers cannot flag status per account — status applies to the whole category. While notes can be added per account, it’s not easy to see which are ready for review and which ones are with queries.

Hi everyone, thanks for supporting and following along with us here. This has now been released - You'll see new check-box style "smarties" on each account within a Workpaper and on the Working Trial Balance, corresponding to the Preparer, First Reviewer and Second Reviewer (if assigned), giving you visibility of the status of each account.

This is also implemented on worksheet lines that users have interacted with - You'll be able to tick off the relevant smarties as each account is reviewed by each assignee 🙂

We appreciate your feedback to continue building on new Workpapers.

  4. Instead of having to go back to the main overview and then select the workpaper, it would be good to be able to have a drop down to select a workpaper as well as the forward and back buttons.

Hi everyone, thanks for your feedback and voting for this idea. We appreciate how returning to the workpaper list to open another workpaper interrupted your workflow, and slowed you down.

We’re pleased to share that we've just released an improvement to solve this.

From an open workpaper, there's now a drop down where you can select and move directly to another workpaper in the pack, without returning to the overview. You can also continue to use the previous and next controls, with worksheets marked as not applicable skipped as you move through the pack.

Thanks again for sharing to help us improve Workpapers.

  5. A function whereby we can either toggle hide/unhide on workpapers that are 'N/A - not applicable' would be very useful. Or at least the ability to amend the workpaper codes so 'N/A - not applicable' workpapers can be custom sorted to the bottom of the pack, out of the way

Hi team, thanks for your feedback on new Workpapers here. Over the last few months we've released a few changes to help hide or minimise N/A Workpapers:

    • When moving between worksheets N/A ones are automatically skipped
    • We've updated the colour tag status across new Workpapers and Not applicable is now grey to further minimise these
    • Admin are able to change the Workpaper code at practice level, which will change the order in which these appear

We appreciate hearing how this could helpin your use of Workpapers. Please keep sharing further improvements that you'd find useful through Xero Product Ideas. 🙂

  6. In the bank reconciliation, it would be great to be able to enter the closing balance per the bank statement, and the workpaper shows any variance.

It would also be great if the bank name and a partial account number could be pulled through to help identify accounts where a client has many bank accounts.

Hi team, returning to this idea we wanted to let you know we've now released an update to include a supporting balance column in all worksheets (not just bank reconciliation).

If the supporting balance matches the Xero balance then there is a green tick confirming it and this is also visible in the variance column. 🙂

We appreciate there's a secondary request in this thread that some maybe interested in for pulling through the bank name and account number and I've created another idea for this so we can track and keep you updated for this. Please do add your vote there if this is of interest to you. Thanks

  7. Within a specific workpaper we have the ability to add a note and select the account code that the note applies to. Can we add the account name in there as well?

Hi community, we'd like to provide an update as this feature has now been released!

Account names are now shown as part of the selection when creating a new note, along with being shown in the posted note and in the export.🥳

Thanks for sharing how this would have a benefit to you here.

  8. The old Workpapers let you drag and drop documents directly into the relevant line, as opposed to the New Workpapers where you always have to click the attachment icon which opens a pop up box where you can then drag and drop or browse files to upload etc.

Getting this back would be an awesome quality of life fix that would help with being able to efficiently add in docs.

Thanks again to everyone that's contributed to the idea here.

We've now released the ability to drag and drop files directly to line items in new Workpapers. We appreciate hearing the time savings and efficiency this feature brings you. 🙏🏻

  9. Currently we can refresh workpapers from the workpapers, working trial balance, manual journals and settings screen, but when we open a specific workpaper that button is no longer available. Can we have this when working in a specific workpaper. This will save us having to click back when we are making adjustments

Hiya team, the option to refresh all data across a pack from within an individual Workpaper is now live!😊

You'll see the option to refresh in the top right of a workpaper. Thanks again for your feedback through the forums here.

  10. In new workpapers there is no ability to see which "notes" (Client Query, Review Point) has been resolved 😭

Hi team, we'd like to return to share that this change has now been released so now Completed notes are more visible ✨

See my attached screenshot. Thank you all again for your votes and feedback here!

  11. Allow each reviewer to approve line items. There are now three people that can be assigned to a workpaper but they all share the same 'status dropdown'.

We need to be able to see the preparer, reviewer and final review separately.

Hi all, we'd now like to confirm that we've released a change to how Xero Workpapers calculates negative taxable income, so this is now handled appropriately for all regions. 😊

We appreciate you highlighting this with us, so we could improve Workpapers for all users. Thanks

  13. Can we have a "Xero Hotlink" next to each account (similar to old Wp's) - The reason why is that the reviewer does not want to spend much time reviewing, this would help speed the process & for Processors we can see what is within the account, not just the "adjustment"

Hi everyone, thank you for your input and interest in this idea. We've released an update so now from the Working trial balance view you'll see an icon on the far right of the table next to each account where you can go directly to the report. 😊

  14. We use the standard chart of accounts in Xero (so I don't believe it is a coding issue ?) but the company working papers I prepared does not allow you to adjust the net profit/loss (accounting) and it is picking up post tax and dividends which is frustrating.

Hi team, this has now been released! You'll find Net profit has been updated to be pre-dividends, and can be manually overridden, and you'll get a warning when it's been overridden. 😊

  15. Manual journals have to be saved as a draft first. Then they need to be edited to be posted. This is an unnecessary step. Or if it is required, it should be role based.

Hi team, we've released an update that solves the need here and means users in a practice that don't require reviews of the manual journal can now post journal entries directly to the ledger as soon as these are created.

No more need to save as draft and publish them one by one, or in bulk from the Manual Journals tab. 😊

Thanks again for sharing your appetite in this here.

  16. I would like a supporting balance column for each workpaper so we can enter manually the balance from the supporting document so we can see immediately the variance to the CY balance if any.

Hi everyone, happy to update that we've released this change! There is now a 'Supporting balance' column, the previous 'Variance' column has been updated to 'Change' and we've added a new 'Variance' column where we updated the formula for to be the delta between the supporting balance column and the current reporting period 😊 Thanks for all your insight here and sharing the difference this would make for you.

  17. Mak the button to notify preparer / reviewer more prominent. The notifications are buried in a menu make them more prominent so the reviewer and preparer can notify each other when tasks have been completed

Heya team! I'd like to share that we've made a change to the workflow to notify a preparer or a reviewer.

This is now visible as a button on both the Working Trial tab as well as the Workpapers tab. 😊

Thanks again for letting us know the difference this change would have for you, here.

  18. It would be very handy to have an option to draft a journal from within a specific workpaper. For example, the client has a number of investments and a slight out of balance. Instead of navigating to the separate Manual Journals or the main workpapers page (to add from the dropdown), it would be handy to have the link within the workpaper.

Excellent to see you've already noticed the update, Bradley! This has just been released today.

You can now work the way you like with visibility over adjustments and adjusted balance directly inside the individual workpapers and the Working trial balance.

You're also now able to add journals from both the working trial balance and inside individual workpapers. 😁

  19. Ability to edit the checklist item. Currently we can only delete and re-type a checklist item not edit anything that is existing

Thank you for sharing how this addition could benefit you, here.

  20. Can we swop the LY and CY columns in the working trial balance so that it is consistent with what we see in the workpapers tab (CY first and then LY)

Good news, team. This update has now been rolled out. You'll find the column ordering in the Working trial balance view now shows the CY column before LY column. 🙂

Thanks for engaging here to let us know this change would be impactful for you.
