Please change what you have done to the branding theme.
We would like to provide some feedback on the latest branding/theme update for invoices. Unfortunately, we are very unhappy with the changes and would strongly appreciate the option to revert to the previous theme.
One of our main concerns is that we may now have a quote created in one theme and then be forced to use the new theme when converting it into an invoice. This creates an inconsistent and less professional experience for our customers.
In particular, we have the following concerns with the new theme:
Quotes with many line items: Our quotes are often 30+ lines long. The new theme appears to have significantly larger gaps between each row, making longer quotes unnecessarily lengthy and difficult to navigate.
Different text sizes: We do not like the different font sizes used for Amount Due, Due Date, Issue Date, Invoice Number and Reference. We would prefer these to have a more consistent and balanced appearance.
Horizontal layout: We do not like the new horizontal layout of Amount Due, Due Date, Issue Date, Invoice Number and Reference. We preferred the previous arrangement, which was clearer and more compact.
"Tax Invoice" wording: We would like the option to change the wording in the top right from "Tax Invoice" to simply "Invoice".
Amount Due: We would like the option to remove the "Amount Due" field.
Issue Date: We would like the option to remove the "Issue Date" field.
Font options: We would like the previous font options to be reinstated, as these gave us much greater flexibility over the appearance of our documents.
Footer: We would like the previous footer functionality/design to be reinstated.
We are also disappointed with the way such a major update has been introduced. It feels as though significant changes have simply been rolled out to customers without a proper transition period or an opportunity to test the new options alongside the existing theme.
For changes that directly affect customer-facing documents, we feel there should be a period where businesses can review, test and provide feedback on the new functionality before the previous options are removed. This would give Xero the opportunity to identify issues and make improvements before customers are forced to adopt the new design.
Overall, we feel the new theme has reduced the flexibility and customisation available to us and, in several areas, has made our quotes and invoices less clear and less professional.
Most importantly, we would like Xero to provide an option to continue using the original/previous theme. If the new theme is going to remain the default, we believe customers should at least have the choice of reverting to the previous design while the new options are refined.
We hope you will take this feedback seriously, particularly from businesses that have established their own professional document layouts and branding around the previous Xero templates.
We would appreciate confirmation as to whether the original theme can be reinstated or whether an option to switch back will be made available.
Thank you everyone, for sharing your feedback on the new invoice template editor.
While we hear your concerns, we don’t accept ideas asking us to remove a new feature or restore an old experience. That said we want to hear your feedback on how we can improve the new experience.
In relation to feedback on the invoice title - We've recently released an update in the Advanced section of the editor where you have multiple options for the Invoice title, a couple of preselections or the ability to set your own custom title.
I've linked some ideas started around changes users would like to see below, and encourage you to add your vote where of interest to you. This'll be highly valuable to the team and we'll be able to keep you updated on related changes
- Invoice template - Ability to remove "View Online"
- Invoice template - Allow font size and weight adjustments for due date and invoice date
- Invoice: Invoice Templates - Custom Fonts for Standard Invoice Themes
- Invoice template - Ability to control size of text
- Invoice templates - Ability to reduce line spacing and padding
For other improvements, please create a new idea describing the specific change you’d like developed in the new editor.

Also, the new look invoices do not fit in window faced envelopes. And for the older customers who do not have computers or email addresses and still prefer mail delivery, the new invoices are not compatible for this method of invoicing. And we have quite a few customers who do not have access to electronic invoicing. So, the only other option is for mail delivery.
And the personal details of their phone number and email address would show in that space as well if it fitted in the space.
We cannot assume everyone has access to email addresses or computers. -

I agree the new invoice template is awful . The font used for the amount due and the due date is far too aggressive. This is not the look we want for our business. It's very unprofessional.

The new layout for the invoices is atrocious. Not only have I had to waste time setting up additional information which has been included on my invoices for 9 years now, the look is disgusting. The massive font used for the amount due and due date is actually embarrassing to send to my clients. I would like the option to revert back to the way it was.

Not happy with new invoices. Total owing in big font pushes invoice to 2 pages with only the total - again - on the 2nd page. More paper, unnecessary. Doesn't add value. Bad idea.

So disappointed at how limited the adjustment options are with the new invoice format. A truly modern invoice editor would provide options to reduce the demanding font size, change terminology, and remove unnecessary, redundant items. I'm embarrassed to send these invoices to clients.
It seems so counterintuitive to not allow those that want the previous invoice format to be able to keep it, at least until more advanced functionality is available in the invoice editor. Kindly requesting that Xero reconsider this stance of allowing no choice to remain with what works for us until providing a more sophisticated invoice platform with true design and layout options.

We agree wholehartedly with the other comments. The demanding bold font for amount due is horrendous. We are a business invoicing multiple thousands of dollars. It looks terrible.
Come on XERO - give us some options here. -

The new layout is terrible. The Bold demand for payment at the top of the invoice is the first thing that jumps out at you before you even get to what the invoice is for. Where is the payment slip? Most of our clients are elderly and send this back with a cheque when they pay. What on earth is that bold line across the bottom of the invoice?! We print these on headed paper, that bold line just looks stupid.
We would like the option for the old design. I had to go back and spend hours trying to customize the DOCS templates yesterday to get them to look remotely similar to our old invoices and those templates are a ache to change!
In summary, unprofessional and horrible.

A horrible new invoice format – specifically the clumsy and 'shouty' demand for payment as a headliner before the invoice details. This is not customer friendly and completely jars with our company’s personalised approach. The previous layout was refined & perfectly acceptable but now it's been supersized by software engineers who don't even give Xero subscribers the option to disagree and toggle the thing off. Why make this a mandatory item when almost every other item on the template builder is modifiable?
To your shame, Xero, we are now emailing recently invoiced customers to apologise for the demanding style which we cannot control -

I totally agree. I hate this new layout. Went to do my invoicing and my template has changed to something that's too busy and over the top!
Why were we not informed first. I would have been able to save my template and name it so i could still access it. Now I have to create another one ! NOT HAPPY! -

Why do Xero change something that was working? Try fixing the stuff that does not.....

The new layout is horrible, particularly the Amount Due and Due Date in the larger bold font. The rest of the line is in smaller font so the look is messy and jarring.
Why did it need to be changed - it was fine as it was! At least give the option to revert to the old style. -

The new format is horrible.
Please allow option to keep it as it was. It's elegant.
In the current format, the line with amount due and due by date in large bold type is shouting at our Clients and very offensive.
Please revert to previous format. -

Agree. The new format is awful. We would like the option to retain the previous format.

Can you add the currency as well (USD, GBP, SGD etc) on the invoice too. We have clients who deal with multi-currency. This was on the old format. Also, I agree the invoice presentation could be better. Thank you.

The new design looks like an early-stage draft not a clean polished ready to be rolled out design...For all Xero users this is very inconsiderate of Xero to do this as it looks bad on us not them. It is our clients that are receiving this unprofessional design.

I agree with these comments.
The new branding looks cluttered and messy. I don't know why there are two "View Online" links. My clients are mostly government and do not like any online invoicing/links. PDF docs are the preferred. Just like the QR code where we can choose not to display, can we also do this with the view online links?
Thirdly, the amount due is there twice...is this really necessary, looks messy and why have it in such large font why aren't all the font sizes in this row the same size? -

Please allow option to keep it as it is/was. It's elegant. Or, as suggested in another thread, give us control to design our own templates via docx. This update is a downgrade, and design and designers are important, clearly.

Totally agree and now you cannot even change margins. For those of us dinosaurs who print the invoice and hole punch to file, the hole goes right through the customer name. So annoying. The invoice looks so busy you don't know where to look first. Pretty sure my customers are not going to like it. If I send an invoice online why does my customer need a QR code on there? Also, they don't need the amount and date due totally separate from the Payment Details. Who designed this layout? How about running it by the business community before making such a radical, impractical change!

The new branding theme is awful. The amount due is repeated 5 times! And at the top it is in large bold font which looks as if we're shouting at the customer! But the worst thing is that the invoices no longer fit in a window envelope. We need to be able to control the customer address to put it where we want on the page. The customer address block needs to come down the page about 4 rows. I increased the top margin but it just is not moving down. I haven't got the time to faff about with this "new improved theme"!
