Invoicing - Customers to pay deposits on invoices
To have the ability for customers to pay deposit through invoices
Purposes: Business can just send one invoice to customer/client, so they don’t have to send multiple invoices when it comes to part payment.
Hi team, work for requesting and accept deposit payments has progressed well. We're now just entering the stage of rolling out a solution powered by Stripe to a limited group of users.
As mentioned in my last update - we're extremely grateful to our community here, who have shared their interest and provided feedback on how deposits in invoicing would meet your needs. We'd love to hear your feedback on our developments for this feature early and have included anyone that has voted on this idea and is connected to Stripe in the first group rollout - You'll receive a banner in your organisation on how to make use of this soon.
I'll share more again here as the rollout widens. Thanks!

Dear Xero team and other paid customers,
In case everyone is not aware, this feature was first raised by Xero Team (Admin, Xero) on August 17, 2015 4:15 PM. It's been 3,739 days since Xero do not have this feature. How much extras have Xero been raising the subscription fee since that day?

It was great to also hear at Xerocon that the deposit feature is being developed. In the mean time I'm finding Xero Projects a good way to link together multiple invoices for one item or project as well as using repayments, - if another app is not in play.

If I had known that Xero didn't have this basic functionality I would have gone with a different program. As soon as I find a better program I'm switching

We got around this issue by upgrading to Projects. In that version of Xero, you can send a deposit invoice.

Great news, but saying that you can't give "specifics on a timeline" feels like a deflection. A clear commitment to this idea is not really present, it feels like you're kicking the issue down the road to take the heat out of our collective frustration.
Please prioritise this because it's too important of a feature to us, and we can't afford to be hanging around for another year in hope that you'll add it.

This is exactly what I wanted to see from xero especially with the price increases. Please let me know if I can help guinea pig ;-)
I'm really looking forward to what you guys come up with.
Keep up the good work xero~

Too little too late for me Xero. The last price rise was the last straw for me - 80% increase over 3 years. Encouraged me to look at the opposition and realise that I could get significantly more features for half the price. Look back over this issue - a clear indication of how a significant feature gap receives so little attention from Xero. Meanwhile the big news is that the main menu is going to be fiddled with yet again. Really! Too much resource spent rearranging deck chairs I would suggest. Bye.

Thank you for the feedback. I was wondering what was happening to this following my Zoom call probably almost a year ago. Why is it taking so long? It's such a problem when clients want to part pay an invoice via card.

@Daniel Morris: This is such a basic feature that is common (and helpful) accross many other platforms. I can only conclude that Xero are willfully ignoring developing this feature.

@Emma Morris,
It seems that Xero is no longer monitoring the chats (or interested in it)

Please Xero, just get this long overdue feature done. We're growing tired of the cumbersome workarounds we have to use just to approximate this feature.

This is a great Idea, but we should be able to accept the first deposit via the Quote / Estime once its approved (enable a signature via web or mobile once accepted) then create invoies based on the down payment amounts and put on waiting approval to be sent to the client once contract step is completed.

Xero, please please hear us all! We NEED this feature. It is standard on many other platforms, what gives? Please consider making this update. I'm so close to switching back over to Quickbooks even though it gives me a headache in other ways, having this feature is essential and QB may be the lesser of two headaches.

Xero Team,
I share the frustration of many others! This feature has been available in other platforms for a long time, so we’re all baffled as to why Xero still doesn’t offer this essential functionality.
We need the ability to send invoices to our clients and allow them to pay a deposit to confirm services. Other accounting software even lets us set multiple deposits with specific amounts and due dates—for example:
• First deposit: $… due on [date]
• Second deposit: $… due on [date]
• Balance due: $… on [date]Come on, Xero—please make this happen!

Guys - it’s essential that clients be able to be able to pay a deposit - especially for companies that require materials in order to facilitate works. It’s such a basic need I can’t understand why it isn’t featured ?

Daily struggle. Not sure if I'm slow to learn the provided method or if this is a lack of development from xero...Really hoping for the change. I'm running two companies on xero platform...our needs have changed. Need prepayment invoices to work as a normal invoice...need to record prepayments to customer accounts and apply prepayments toward invoice balances. Thanks

Is there any update on this?! I can't believe that in 2025 this is still not a feature of Xero.
