User Role - Restrict access to individual bank accounts
To have the ability limit some users to access some bank accounts within Xero org.
Purpose: To limit some staff to not be able to see the information about the client’s bank balance.
We appreciate everyone that's contributed here. Needs in more incremental permissions for bank accounts, have been clearly highlighted in your feedback - from protecting the confidentiality of payroll information to securely delegating reconciliation tasks for specific accounts.
Leaning in from our last update, our product teams have conducted lots of research of existing user roles, to highlight the most critical areas work is needed to power up our customers use of Xero.
Reporting and inventory are our first areas of priority, and you may have seen recent updates across ideas for these areas.
Permissions to bank accounts is another area that stood out in our research, but has more dependencies and will take longer to develop.
We'll keep you updated as our journey with roles and permissions evolve and there's more in the space of banking to share with you all.

If it's not under consideration I will be reconsidering my relationship with Xero.

Bank Account Restrictions are a must have for any business. A user should be able to access one or two accounts without automatically gaining access to all accounts for the business. This is especially true for a business with multiple locations or a parent company with many businesses under its umbrella but it's just as true for a small business that believes in internal controls and processes.

I don't understand how folks run a business without restricting access to bank accounts. Do you have a plate glass window without curtains on the streetside wall in your master bath too? Leave something to the imagination people!

Similarly, I do believe restricted access to bank account details is a critical feature and would love to see Xero integrate this

Once a Petty Cash bank account has been created, it would be beneficial if you could create users who are only permitted to upload transactions and view the balance of this account. This means that admin staff who would be in charge of the petty cash on a day-to-day basis, can keep accurate records of transactions in real time, but have no access to the main bank account or any other acounting information.

Similarly to many other businesses, we have credit cards set up as bank accounts with the reconciliations needing to be done by someone with restricted access. The reconciliation process is onerous and time consuming, in particular when you have dozens of cards attached to the feed. Pretty frustrating that Xero doesnt have this capacity in todays climate

We want the credit cards (treated as bank accounts with a bank feed) to be reconciled by someone with restricted access ie not allowed to see other bank accounts, journals, select reports etc. Unfortunately a standard user can see everything

Critical! The way user roles are predefined is overly general and really limits its use. Hope the change comes quickly :)

This really is a priority. Xero is so flexible in so many other ways, this really does need this critical feature please. Custom permissions a must :-).

Permissions and security
A client is looking for greater permissions and security of their data relating to which employees and read and write in their files.
As an example they have 3 employees and 3 bank accounts. Employee 1 needs access to all 3 bank accounts employee is only allowed access to account A and employee is allowed access to account B and account C is the salary account, thus there is confidential information in account C that only the accountant being Employee 1 needs.
Is this possible in Xero?
This is a deal breaker for this client.

I'm glad it's on your radar. Having this feature available will make a really big difference in our business

This is a really important feature for us and surprised that we could not do it. Be great if it could be implemented thanks!

It would be nice to be able to have custom permissions for certain staff members.

It is critical. A client wants to allow a staff to access full sale and purchase function and one bank account (total 5 bank accounts), they could not do it.

Xero have only just added credit limits to their software so I’m not sure they fully understand accounting or what critical means 🤔

When I submitted a case recently I was told that the status for this idea is 'Submitted' which indicates that this feature is 'on our radar, but we have not started working on it yet.'
I was also told to continue keeping an eye on this thread for any future updates on this request, which I think is fairly ironic given that I don't see one single response or update from a Xero staff member on this thread.

Has Xero ever commented if there any plans/timeframes on implementing this or provided details as to why it has not been?
All seems a bit of a pointless exercise to vote and comment with zero feedback from Xero (pun intended)

Thank you Ian for placing an effort to get everyone involve and hopefully get to someone in Xero who would put this in action! We have to put projects on hold because we simply can't have staff have access to all the bank accounts.
Vote to help bring this to Xero's attention, thank you everyone!!

If I could vote 1000 times I would. I have brought this up with my partner manager on numerous occasions but still nothing - it is a critical issue and and would seem such a simple fix so please vote even if this would be merely useful to you. 159 votes I believe is way short of how many find this critical.
