  1. If you currently want to edit a line on the to do list you have to create a new line and enter the data, than delete the previous item.
It would be great if we could have an edit function on the to do list so we did have to add the extra step of recreation

  2. when there is interest to pay and a date to calculate to is selected the wording comes up as - Assuming the return is assessed on 30/June/2023. This format should be either 30/6/2023
    or 30 June 2023

  3. It would be good to filter deleted clients like we can for archived clients on XPM custom reports. At the moment they display on the Income Tax report that compares clients with the ATO list and there is no way to filter them out. It makes finding clients who have dropped off the ATO list difficult.

  4. Currently, Xero only lets us archive the returns that are already filed (or are in the filed status).

There are scenarios, when the clients come in to do the tax return- we need more information and client does not respond. We do have an option of suspending the returns- however, these returns will still be left in draft making the draft tax returns list unnecessarily longer.

Xero is not currently allowing us to archive the returns that are in the draft status. Either we have to mark the return as 'filed' before it can be archived or these have to…

If Yes – add a file attachment
If No – then go to next question

  6. Re the home office workpaper. It seems to calculate soley on a percentage basis yet under DB 18AA, we can claim interest/rent and rates in proportion of business use, as well as $47.85 (for 2022 and future years) per square metre (PSMR) (IRD square meterage rates) as a proxy for general home expenditure. There doesn't seem to be a workaround in the workpaper to opt for the PSMR for the general expenditure claim? I would like to claim the higher of the two calculations for my clients' thanks and would love to see the workpaper work out the better of…

  7. Xero workpaper functionality that can connect to more than one Xero file to reconcile inter-entity loan accounts, or confirm rental income and expenses, or Div 7A interest and expense, etc.

Eg: Debit loan in Company A, Credit loan in Trust B - can link both totals to see at a glance the loans match on both debit and credit sides.
Entity A pays related-party rent to Entity B - link B's income and A's expenses to see at a glance that the amounts are correct on both sides in both files

Hi everyone, thanks for sharing your feedback on this idea 🙂

We can see the value in this, managing inter-entity loans more easily across entities in Workpapers, especially where you’re trying to match balances and reduce manual cross-checking. We’re moving this idea to Gaining Support so others can vote and add their use cases too. The more detail you can share about how you’d use this in practice, the easier it is for our team to understand the impact and prioritise future improvements.

This is something that’s on our radar, but we don’t have a timeframe to share right now. We’ll continue to monitor the feedback here and will update this thread if there’s more to share.

  8. It would be helpful to merge clients in XPM where two accounts have been created (different names) and tax returns filed under each one. For example a client entered under their maiden name and married name who have filed tax returns. In our case a duplicate was accidently created when doing the return and we have no way to now shift the tax return to the correct and active client account in XPM.

With the soon to come Xero Partner Hub we'll be bringing all your practice tools under one umbrella and improving your experience in managing and working with clients in your practice. With the combined experiences of Xero HQ and Practice Manager this'll include the ability to merge two clients into one, like you're after here 🙂

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. Find more information about Xero Partner Hub on our website, and we'll be back to update you all as this goes live to practices in the coming months.

  9. Is it possible to get the total of the VAT due/refund on the VAT report in Xero for a period. Currently one have to do a calculation to see the VAT due/refund. Or have to generate the VAT201 report to see the amount due.
Ideal one would like to see the VAT due outomatically calculated as well as die balance of the VAT control account on one report. See attachement for an example.

  10. Adding a disclaimer & changing the substantiation declaration on the tax returns - our old system used to have this that the client could sign which we would like to make adjustments to but we have to manually add this on to tax returns in Xero tax.

  11. Given Xero has an IR3 Rental Schedule form and Home Office Work Papers why does the business schedule workpaper only have line by line capability and not a business schedule equivalent to IR's IR3B business schedule? Why is this helpful, it means we have the ability to put in front of the client not only the income and expenses relating to their small enterprise (i.e. usually don't warrant an accounting product) and provides traceability for fixed assets and depreciation claimed.

  12. We have some clients that have multiple businesses under their personal names. Can we please have individual worksheets for each business to input income and expenses which then automatically totals into the business schedule in the main form?

At the moment in XERO tax, we need to put the grand totals into the business schedule, then split the amounts across the businesses for each expense/income line item. This is not practical as we generally receive separate figures for each business, not a grand total.

Thanks so much for taking the time to outline how you’re using Xero Tax and the challenges with clients who have multiple businesses under their personal names. ✨

At the moment, we’re not planning to introduce individual worksheets for each business that then roll up automatically to the main business schedule, so this isn’t something that’s currently in our pipeline.

While I don’t have a timeframe or planned work to share for this specific workflow, your feedback is really valuable in helping us understand where Xero Tax isn’t supporting multi‑business clients as well as it could. We’ll keep monitoring interest in this type of functionality as we review and prioritise future improvements to Xero Tax.

  13. Please add in the fixed asset numbers in the new depreciation schedule. The old report had this and it made it very easy to review and reconcile. This feature is very much needed. Thanks

  14. Enable use for non-Xero clients

For non-Xero clients, it would be very useful to be able to use Workpapers by importing client trial balances. Kindly update when this feature will be available.

Hi everyone, thanks for the on-going interest and engagement in this idea. As mentioned in our last update - tax adviser details will roll forward into the next year for each client, once added.

However, our product team do appreciate how auto-filling the tax adviser details would make things more efficient.

While we don't have immediate plans, this is something our teams are taking a closer look into solving for Xero Tax (UK) Personal tax.

I'll be sure to come back and keep you updated of any progress in this space.

  16. All other access roles can be done from HQ, except for this one.

Frustrating when this access has not been given to the staff member (overlooked) and staff member needs to create ABA file and cant.

  17. Practice Manager - Bulk update ITR due dates within tax return

If we request the income tax client report through Xero, the due dates update in the client detail level, but not in the tax return if they have already been created.
Being able to bulk update the due dates within the tax return, especially when deferrals are requested and successful with the ATO would be helpful as manually updating them all can be time consuming.

  18. Is there a way to flag a client, ie Warning/Ban or make them Inactive but keep their history in Xero?

We have a system that have a number of clients with similar/identical names and we would like flag a client for particular reason, ie account terms etc or ban etc.

  19. In Xero Tax, you should be able to change the name format for all directors even if they've been appointed after the Accounts Year End. Currently if you've changed the name format for directors previously from 'SURNAME, Name' to 'Name Surname' when a new director is appointed post year end, they are brought into the company information page with 'SURNAME Name' format and there is no ability to change the format to 'Name Surname' to match the others so you then need to change the other directors to 'SURNAME Name' format to match. The ability to change format is a…

  20. Add a custom column similar to a custom row into reports.

This would be used to include quantities for livestock reports, for automating % of trust distributions payable to beneficiaries prior end of June.

This currently can't be done in reports.
