1. Files - Ability to add note to a file in the library

   The new layout does not support our workflow. On the contrary, it slows us down and makes the system less transparent. For practices like ours, managing hundreds of clients, clarity and efficiency are essential. The previous dashboard enabled us to see key information at a glance. The new version creates unnecessary friction.

   It is crucial that you retain the option to use the previous dashboard version and allow each Xero user to decide which layout best supports their work. There are hundreds of similar requests in community forums asking for this flexibility. In light of this, the current developer stance — offering no progress or support on the matter — feels unacceptable. If user feedback is requested, it should be meaningfully considered.

   Each time we switch between clients, we now have to spend additional time navigating what feels like a chaotic layout. Simple operational questions should be immediately visible, such as:

   Are there draft invoices or bills?

   How many unreconciled bank transactions are there?

   What is the client’s current open financial year?

   If development resources are being allocated, we strongly encourage you to focus on improvements that genuinely support daily accounting work rather than redesigning functional elements that were already working well. At the very least, please preserve the option to use the previous dashboard.

   If you are looking to introduce meaningful improvements, here are several practical suggestions:

   Files Menu Enhancement
   In the “Files” menu, there should be an option to add notes alongside uploaded documents.

   Open Financial Year Visibility
   Upon entering a client, the home screen should clearly show which financial year is currently open (i.e. not locked). It would also be extremely helpful to display, as at the financial year-end date, how many bank transactions remain unreconciled — broken down by bank account.

   Multicurrency Reconciliation (Cross-Currency Payments)
   For multicurrency clients, when an invoice raised in EUR is partially paid in EUR and partially in USD, it should be possible to reconcile this directly without needing to re-convert the invoice back into GBP.

   Bulk Payment Functionality (Multicurrency)
   For multicurrency clients, it should be possible to mark multiple invoices as paid in bulk. Currently, this must be done individually, which is inefficient.

   We genuinely want Xero to improve and remain the most effective accounting platform for practitioners. However, developments should prioritise usability and operational efficiency for those managing large client portfolios.

   Being upfront, the new homepage will replace the Dashboard experience over the coming weeks, and we cannot maintain both experiences long term.

   To help with some of the notes you've raised on your needs;

   • You can view draft invoices/bills from the Invoices owed to you/Bills to pay widgets - This now sits beneath the graph
   • # of items to reconcile should be visible from each Bank account widget, as well as within the Tasks widget
   • Net profit or loss widget will provide a quick gauge of the clients FY

   I'll update the title of your idea here for the first suggestion you've made around adding notes to Files, and we welcome you to start new ideas for the other improvements you've noted here so we can keep you updated.

2. Xero files - option to view files as a group, reducing the need to open individually

   New Xero files - add option to return to the old way of viewing bills that had been uploaded?

   I often log in to 80-100 bills that have been uploaded into files for me to add to a clients xero. Until the recent changes you could click on the oldest one and then scroll through each one viewing them full screen whilst working on another screen to add the information to a bill in xero. Now when you click on the file it opens in a much smaller box on the far side of the screen and you can't scroll through all of the files. I can make it full screen but because I can't scroll through I have to go out of each bill and then click into the next and then make that full screen which adds more time and unnecessary 'clicks'. I've looked through the guides to see if there is a way of choosing how the bill view is presented but I can't find anything. Please can you reinstate this feature? I've already had my workload increased by the changes to invoicing, resulting in it taking longer to add part payments - although the number of pop up boxes and extra clicks has been reduced slightly from the original 'new' version. I've been advised by a specialist to open each new bill in a different window to cut down on the number of clicks, but this isn't helpful when you are dealing with a large number of bills. The other suggestion was to use the esc key instead of clicking, again this doesn't help with the added time the current change has added to my workload.

   Thanks for sharing your idea, and letting us know the changes that matter most for you. We've reviewed your idea and now it's up to the community to get behind and support it. While that exact group view isn't available in the new design, we have a helpful trick: we recommend you try expanding the side view of the file so it fills up most of your screen. When you do that, you'll be able to quickly jump between files just by hitting the Tab and Enter keys on your keyboard. If you run into any trouble with this or need more help, please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team :)

3. XPH | Homepage - Widget for reviewing client transactions without attachments

   We would like an exportable / emailable report to show spends and bills in a period that are missing files / source documents.

   We could / would use this:
   - as a quick weekly review
   - monthly as part of month end
   - as part of GST prep
   - we work for clubs, and we would use this as part of annual pre-audit process for them - so the date range is important - as their year end is 31 Oct.

   Please make this a permanent feature or quickly accessiable report in Xero. Please also add it as a widget on the Partner Hub so we can see current and historic missing docs easily across all clients.

   Appreciate you sharing your idea in the forums here, Glennis. Sort of 2 pronged for a report as well as a widget I found another idea related to your first suggestion and added your vote for.

   Separately, we'll get a gauge of the interest from others in a widget in Xero Partner Hub for this purpose from your idea here.

4. Attachments - Add preview compatibility for .eml and .msg files

   Please consider adding compatibility to preview .eml files (and .msg files if possible) that are attached to invoices (and other documents) in Xero, similar to the pdf preview window.

   Emails are text/HTML so this seems achievable.

   This would save time needing to download correspondences to view them, which are useful attachments in Xero for audit purposes.

   It’s great to see ideas around attachment previews, especially how support for .eml and .msg files could make audit workflows smoother.

   This idea is now open for the community to vote on and discuss. Adding a few details about how it would fit into your workflow can help others understand why it matters and give the product team extra context.

   We’ll keep this thread updated as things develop.

5. Xero Accounting app | Files - Preserve rotated images when uploading via device file manager

   The easiest way to save a document to the Files Inbox is to share it from the device file manager or gallery. However, if an image has been rotated to landscape (e.g. because the image was originally the wrong orientation), saving the image to Files Inbox this way removes the rotation. The Xero Accounting app should preserve the rotation when uploading.

6. Contacts - Show attachments for transactions in the contact overview

   Under the Contact, where Xero shows the current account balance and further down the screen we can see all invoices etc for that contact. When I scroll down the list of invoices I'd love to be able to see a little icon that tells me how many files I have uploaded to each invoice. The only way to tell currently is if I click into each invoice and then I can see the number of files attached per the little file icon at the top.

   Hi team we appreciate support in this idea, however as previously shared we don't have any current plans for extending files to accommodate what's being asked here. 

   We're continuing to keep a watch on the support for this, and recommend exploring the Xero app store if this is something you need right now.
