  1. When you use a date shortcut (eg +7) it DOES NOT WORK when using manual journals.

    Here's a video demonstrating the problem: https://www.loom.com/share/6f035e84ebce42cab95c67dbbe65a608

I posted this feedback a few days ago and the reply from Xero admin was the function does work as designed, and since the thread is now closed, I've reposted with a video of me using the date shortcuts and demonstrating how they don't work.

Hi TJ, thanks for sharing the short video - I can see what you mean here.

To clarify how date shortcuts work in Manual Journals, they’re based on the current date rather than any date already entered in the field. If Xero doesn’t recognise the shortcut you’ve entered, it defaults to today’s date.

If you want to enter a date from a previous month, the shortcut to use is “Date in a month”, as shown in our help table. For example, 8/Jun or 6/8 would enter 8 June 2026.

I understand the behaviour you’d prefer, so I’ve slightly amended the title of your idea. This isn’t something we have plans of developing for shortcuts at present but we’ll start tracking interest in this date shortcut behaviour from your post.

  2. At present, fixed asset depreciation in Xero follows standard monthly periods, which can make it difficult to align depreciation expense with businesses that report on a 4-4-5 calendar. Allowing users to override depreciation period dates would improve accuracy, reduce manual journal adjustments, and make the module more practical for retail, hospitality, and other businesses that use non-standard reporting cycles.

Thanks for sharing this idea ⭐ We’re moving it to Gathering Support so we can gauge the level of interest from the wider Xero community in supporting custom depreciation periods, including 4-4-5 reporting calendars.

Feedback and votes will help us understand how broadly this functionality is needed, as well as the impact it has on businesses that use non-standard reporting periods. Please continue to vote and share any additional details about how this would help your business.

  3. Summary items tally at the bottom of the report page incorrectly includes the header - meaning the tally is always one to many. For example the Payroll employee summary report, or any report, for 3 staff in total will say 4 items at the bottom. A quirk that means your quick view of a report is always out by one. A quirk that can be removed as the tally is wrong and therefore no value.

Thanks for sharing your idea, I can see how relying on the report's line tally could result in an additional employee included in the count.

We've reviewed your idea and now it's up to the community to get behind and support it. Make sure you share your idea with any colleagues that this could benefit so they can add their vote too!

Along with votes, other members can now comment to share additional detail about how your idea could improve their experience with Xero.

  4. On the Manual Journal Entries main screen show a number next to the Draft tab to alert user of how many draft entries there currently are. We see the number of Bills in Draft tab, it should be the same for journal entries on this new view.

Thanks for sharing this idea, Barbara. We understand the request to show the number of manual journals on each tab in the list view. Having these counts visible at a glance could make it easier to check outstanding journals and review activity without opening each tab.

We've updated the status of this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking community interest. If this would improve your workflow, add your vote and let us know where these counts could be most useful.

  5. Hi,

Most softwares have included on the GST reconciliation report page a toggle button to switch between cash vs accrual reporting on the GST reconciliation report page which makes it a lot easier for accountants to run the reports on either a cash or accruals basis.

It is very time consuming having to switch it in the financial settings each and everytime and also means that if it does not get switched back to applicable setting if the client lodges a BAS they may inadvertently lodge on the incorrect basis, meaning more time for accounts to identify and correct.

    Thanks

Thanks for taking the time to suggest this, Kimberley.

We understand the request for more flexibility when reviewing the GST Reconciliation report. A Cash or Accrual option on the report could reduce the extra steps involved to change the reporting basis.

We've updated this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue collecting feedback and votes. If this would make your GST reviews easier, share your use case with us.

  6. Create a report that includes Sign Status. However, when I try to set it up, the only option available in the dropdown is Client Status.

I would like Sign Status to be added as a selectable field in the report filters to make the report more useful and easier to manage.

Thanks for sharing this idea, Anjellyn. We understand the request to filter reports by e-signature status. Having these statuses available as report filters could make it easier to track outstanding signatures across client tax returns without checking each return individually.

We've updated the status to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking community interest. If this would help your workflow, add your vote and let us know how you'd use it.

  7. I would like an advance schedule for medicare levy to check through whether they were full time in the defence force or foreign person etc.

Thanks for sharing this idea. We understand the request for automated Medicare Levy exemption and Medicare Levy Surcharge schedules in Xero Tax.

We've updated the status to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking community interest. If this could help your workflow, add your vote and let us know which Medicare Levy or surcharge calculations you'd find most useful to have automated.

  8. It would be extremely helpful if Xero allowed UK Property Income to be entered manually within the MTD ITSA return, rather than requiring transactions to be entered into the ledger or quarterly journals to be posted.

A common scenario is where a sole trader already uses Xero for their business but also has separate UK property income. Whilst it's possible to separate the figures using tracking categories, this still mixes business and property transactions within the same accounting records.

Allowing manual entry of the quarterly property income and expenses for MTD ITSA would:

    • Keep business and property records completely separate.

Thanks for sharing this idea. We can see how allowing manual entry of UK property income for MTD for Income Tax would be desirable.

We’ve updated this idea to Gaining Support so we can better understand how many customers this would help and the different scenarios people need it for. If this is important to you, please add your vote and share any additional detail in the comments, especially how you currently manage property income outside Xero and where the current workflow creates extra work.

We’ll continue to review the feedback and keep this idea updated here as it progresses.

  9. I am sure this is a design flaw that will be corrected shortly as its astonishing to see, the quarterly income and expenses PDF report needs an identifying name on the report. Once saved not in Xero it does not have anything on it to identify it.
    This needs rectifying with haste.

Thanks for sharing this idea. We understand how useful it would be for exported MTD for IT Income and Expenses reports to clearly identify the relevant client or business, particularly when reports are saved or shared outside Xero.

We’re moving this idea to Gaining Support so we can gauge interest across the Xero community. If this would improve your workflow, please vote for the idea and share more detail about how you use the report and what information you’d like to see included in its title or header.

Community feedback will help us understand the impact of this request and inform our review. We’ll share updates here as the idea progresses.

  10. In the Cash Flow Manager overview, include the option to filter based on the AI projection for 'cash in' including the overdue receivables. The AI projection is available on the 'cash in' tab, however, that tab doesn't include subtotals (like the overview tab does and this is very helpful) and also doesn't include the ability to filter by the AI projection. Both would be very helpful.

Thanks for raising this idea and explaining how the Cash In view could be more useful.

Some of what you’ve suggested is already available. You can use the Type column to filter the Cash In transactions and deselect Predicted items. Overdue invoices are also shown in the invoice section, separately from predicted recurring cash in.

The part we’ll move forward to Gathering Support is the request for clearer subtotals in the Cash In view, particularly a breakdown that makes it easier to distinguish predicted cash in from invoice-based cash in, including overdue invoices.

To help us assess this further, it would be useful to understand exactly which subtotals you’d find most helpful and where you’d like them displayed. 🌟

  11. Hi Xero Team,

I'd like to suggest a small user interface improvement that would significantly improve the reporting experience.

The Accounting Basis (Cash vs Accrual) fundamentally changes the meaning of reports such as the General Ledger, Trial Balance and GST reports, yet it's currently hidden under the "More" menu.

As a business that reports GST on a cash basis, I recently spent several hours reconciling my BAS, General Ledger and Trial Balance because I unknowingly compared reports prepared on different accounting bases. Once I discovered the hidden setting and changed the report to Cash, every figure reconciled immediately.

    The Accounting…

Thanks for bringing this idea to the community. We understand the request to make the Cash or Accrual basis option more visible when viewing financial reports. A prominent indicator could help reduce confusion when reviewing or sharing reports with clients.

We've moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue gathering votes and feedback. If this would be useful, share how you'd use it.

  12. We have been given a set of financial statements for sole traders and farmers but within the reports, the P&L and Balance sheet are showing the lines under each transaction. We would like the ability to remove these lines as it gives a more professional look.

Thanks for getting the conversation started, Brian. An option to remove row lines could help create cleaner financial statements for client-facing reports.

Hi Sam, thanks for sharing this suggestion. A combined statement showing both receivables and payables could help to review the overall position for contacts who are both customers and suppliers.

  14. It would be helpful to have a check box for each section of the tax return that marks it as completed so you know what is done and what still needs to be done.

We find that we have to continually go back and check which sections are completed and which are not which can be time consuming, especially if you are working on multiple tax returns at once or if you are going between tax returns waiting on information from clients. An overview of some sort or a check mark beside each schedule would be very helpful.

Thanks for sharing this idea, I can see how a clear way to track which sections of a tax return have been completed would be especially helpful when you're working across multiple returns or waiting on client information.

We've moved your idea to Gaining Support so we can gauge community interest and better understand how many others would find this helpful in their workflow.

If this would make a meaningful difference for you, it would be great to hear more about which schedules or stages are the hardest to keep track of today.

  15. Currently, Xero Tax allows a trust tax return to be completed and lodged even when a beneficiary's TFN has not been entered, despite the TFN being required in certain beneficiary statements and trust reporting schedules.
It would be helpful if Xero included a validation check that prevents the trust tax return from being finalised or lodged where a beneficiary TFN is mandatory but has not been entered. This could work in the same way as other critical validation errors that must be resolved before lodgement.
For our practice, this would reduce the risk of incomplete or incorrect trust reporting, improve…

    Appreciate your feedback, Nikki.

Having a mandatory TFN check for beneficiaries where required could make Trust Tax Return preparation more consistent and help reduce the need for manual checks before lodgement.

  16. The new menu format does not make logical sense. You now have to scroll to see any details and in long journal postings scroll down the page due to unnecessary spacing and you cant resize the columns? In addition, why are the totals for the debit and credit columns not underneath the columns?

Logically, it would make sense to have the description first, followed by account, debit, credit to enable easy review. The new layout appears to be more confusing than anything else. If we can re arrange the rows, can we also re arrange the columns?

    The previous format…

Thanks so much for taking the time to share this feedback on the new Manual Journals experience. We appreciate you explaining what would work better for you, including the suggestion to either restore the previous order or allow columns to be rearranged.

We’ve moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue to track interest and hear from others who feel the same way. Votes and comments on the idea are really helpful for our team as we assess customer impact and prioritise improvements.

Thanks so much for sharing this idea. We can see how being able to view long manual journal titles more easily would be helpful, especially when you're quickly scanning your journals.

We've moved your idea to Gaining Support so other customers can vote and add their feedback too. If anyone else would find wrapped titles, or a toggle to control this, helpful in Manual Journals, please add your support and share how it affects your workflow — those details are really useful for our team.

We really appreciate you taking the time to raise this with us and help improve Xero.

  18. It is unacceptable that two standard financial reports within the same accounting system produce different balances solely because of the system's rounding method. Such inconsistencies create unnecessary complications during reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit processes.

Describing this as a software limitation does not address the underlying issue or its impact on users. Standard financial reports are expected to reconcile with one another, and the Accounts Payable Aging Report should match the Balance Sheet. Even a one-cent discrepancy requires investigation, explanation, and additional manual effort, undermining the reliability and efficiency of the system.

Financial reporting depends on consistency and accuracy. Users…

Thanks so much for taking the time to share this idea and explain the impact it’s having for you.

We understand how important it is for standard financial reports to reconcile, especially when even a small difference creates extra work during reconciliations, reporting, or audit review. We can absolutely see why this matters.

Your idea has now been moved to Gaining support so other customers experiencing the same issue can add their votes and comments. This helps our product team better understand how widespread the impact is.

While we can’t promise any specific changes or timing, please know your feedback has been captured and shared in the right place for visibility.

Thanks for sharing and supporting this idea.

We can see how a formal submission confirmation for MTD for Income Tax would be helpful, especially when you need something more suitable than a screenshot to share with clients as proof a submission has been made.

We’ve moved your idea to Gaining support so other community members can vote and add detail on how they’d use this. That feedback helps our product team better understand the demand and the impact this would have in practice.

If there’s anything specific you’d want included on a confirmation document — for example the filing date, business or taxpayer name, period covered, and submission status — feel free to add that in a comment, as it gives the team more context to review.

We’ll keep you updated here if there’s any change.

Thank you for sharing this suggestion.

We’re moving this idea forward to gather community support and feedback. This will help us understand how many customers would benefit from being able to mark individual registered assets as ‘Do not print’ on the Depreciation Schedule, particularly when an asset has no remaining book value.

Please vote for this idea and add a comment if this would help your organisation. Feedback about your current workflow and how often you need this option will also help us assess the level of interest and inform future consideration. 🙂
