Fixed Assets - Search by Serial Number
It should be possible to search Fixed Assets by serial number using the existing search box.
Otherwise the Fixed Assets registration feature is not that useful, because if you have i.e. 50 of the same asset you have to manually open all 50 assets to find out which one actually matches the SN of the asset you are disposing.
If you can't search based on the serial number, what is even the point of entering it?
24 votesHi everyone, thanks for your feedback and detail of why searching b y serial # would be of use. We understand how this'd be beneficial when you have multiple of the same asset being registered.
At this time, as with a few parts of Xero our product team in the Fixed Assets space are focused on updating some core Fixed Assets technology to provide future capability and a consistent look and feel to what you've begun seeing in other parts of Xero like reports, and invoicing.
We'll keep watching the support for ideas closely and share any updates with you all.

Fixed Assets - Depreciation for partial months
When calculating Leasehold Improvements as a Fixed Asset, the term is often not whole months even when using days it still does not calculate correctly for example we need to use 2.67 years to reconcile to our workbook.

Fixed Asset - Ability to register multiple draft assets as one
On Drafts there would be say 10 lines which is actually all for the same asset.
Say I am building a product store. Using 10 different suppliers. Store, Erection, Floor, Building inside etc. I want to map all those together and register as 1 asset when done. This way the auditors see the whole store as one asset. Not 10 lines that I must show them. For instance "Thats the floor in that storage building"

Fixed Assets - Automatically update depreciation start date when changing year end dates
It would be great if Xero dealt with changing balance dates more efficiently. If the balance date changes it should be able to automatically calculate the opening book value, then calculate the depreciation for the new financial year end as per usual. Currently its very manual and time consuming as it reverses all journals posted since you started using Xeros fixed asset feature. Very odd and very frustrating!
17 votesHi all, we wanted to round back here to share for those in the UK that we've now added the ability for you to create a short transition period (between 1 month and 12 months long) when changing the Financial Year End date.
To recap for anyone new coming across the idea - Aligning with the UK basis period reforms we've made a change to Financial settings so you can add start and end dates to different periods. This change impacts multiple areas of Xero.
- Fixed assets will draw on this information, to prevent any loss of historic information when your year end changes. Everything will automatically be calculated for you based on the period start and end dates you set in Financial Settings.
- The same applies in Reporting. All historic reports will be protected. And you’ll have accurate comparison periods even across varied financial years.
- In Xero Tax,…

Fixed Assets - Ability to select account/s for disposal
Currently, the accounts you choose for fixed asset additions and accumulated depreciation are also used for disposal and depreciation on disposal. It would be helpful to be able to choose different accounts for the disposal transactions from those used for additions.
For example, fixed asset additions would go to an 'additions' account, depreciation in the year goes to a 'depreciation charge' account. Disposals go to 'cost of disposals' and 'depreciation on disposals accounts'. This keeps everything separate and mirrors the corresponding figures required for Ltd Company statutory accounts in the UK.
Being able to choose different accounts makes it easier…

Chart of Accounts - Edit / Add account types
It would be very useful to be able to change the names of the General Ledger Account Types. Also Fixed Assets should be changed to Capital Assets because Capital Assets is really the applicable term because not all Fixed Assets fixed. Machinery, equipment, rolling stocks......

Fixed Assets - Export with dates in dd/mm/yyyy format
Currently if you export your fixed asset register, the dates are exported in mm/dd/yyyy format. If you use the dd/mm/yyyy format, then the figures are wrong in excel. e.g. 06 April is read as 04 June (and the figure eg 44088 is the wrong one). Other dates come as text e.g. 2/28/2022 and are not read at all. It should be possible to export them as number eg. 44080, which can be formatted as required.

Auto sales tax - Add Puerto Rico as a registered state
Add Puerto Rico to the sales tax lookup under States where your business is registered to collect sales tax
2 votesThanks for raising this as an idea on the site, Rhyse. We don't currently have plans for extending auto sales tax to other regions atm but we're keen to stay close to the interest of this here. I'll let you know if there's anything changes for this, here.

Fixed asset register - Include rules for tax treatment of amortization where different to accounting treatment
Most companies have different treatment of accounting depreciation and tax allowances on the same assets. Having these setup and maintained in Xero would be a game changer.
Also: make FAR export dates sync up with regional settings - it's enormously frustrating having a FAR download in MM/DD/YYYY when one works in example DD/MM/YYYY

Fixed Assets - Change behaviour to recognise new asset when account type updated on existing transaction
An Information message to advise implications of editing the "Account Type" when posting a bill for a Fixed Asset.
"If an approved bill or spend money transaction is edited, and the account code is changed to one with a Fixed Asset account type - a draft asset won't be created". ie- it does not automatically update the transaction to include the item on the fixed asset schedule. Unless the item is manually added to the fixed asset register, it will not be included in subsequent depreciation runs.Ideally the system should be designed to fully complete the edit or should…

Fixed Assets - Run depreciation from 6th to 5th of a month
Be able to run depreciation from 6th to 5th of a month for businesses that have a financial year end of 5 April.
Whilst you can do this for a 1st year of trading, we have found that you are unable to run it for any year after and after checking with xero, you are unable to run depreciation if the fixed asset start date is not the 1st of the month.14 votes -
Fixed Asset Module - Automate Asset Type
When items get posted into fixed asset module from bills, why isn't the asset type automatically fed from the account it was posted to? This just creates unnecessary work having to assign them manually!

Fixed asset - Create from prepayment
There should be an option to enter a prepayment to/from a Contact as such, that is a prepayment. For now, it has to be entered as an invoice. Creating an invoice also creates HST due/credit and it does not follow tax/HST rules because a prepayment is not a sale.

Financial Statements | Schedule in Notes - Ability to change column headers
I would like to put fixed asset categories (plant and machinery, motor vehicles etc) as the columns, and have Cost, Depreciation, NBV - bfwds and cfwds etc in the rows underneath. See attached.
As far as I was aware it was standard to have the fixed asset note in this format so was surprised this was not already a functionality,
