  2. Instead of referring to reconcile transactions, it would be better to refer to categorise or allocate transactions.

Bank transactions are categorised - we tell Xero what each transaction is for - answers "What was this for?" However at present this is called Reconcile transactions

Reconciling an Account - is matching the above transactions to the bank's records (statement) - checking that every transaction in Xero matches what actually happened in the bank account and the end balance matches.

The terminology seems to confuse some and they think by categorising/allocating a transaction they have reconciled the account.

Thanks for your feedback and for pointing out how the term "Reconcile" can be confusing—especially for those new to Xero or bookkeeping.

We get that using clearer terms like "Categorise" or "Allocate" might feel more intuitive and help reduce confusion when working through bank reconciliation.

Right now, this idea’s open for feedback and support, so feel free to keep voting and sharing how a change like this could help in your day-to-day.

  3. It would be ideal when in reconcile bank, under the Account Transactions tab, that the lines are sorted newest to oldest as the first option under each sort category.

Now that we are years into using Xero, it is not necessary to see the old transactions as a first see option.

I typically sort my account transactions by Status as I want to see unreconciled items on the top and directly beneath that is the reconciled but the first line is the very first transaction posted years before. If I am trying to find a double entry in account transactions…

Appreciate the additional feedback, Katie. Would I be right in interpreting that you'd like to be able to give users access to reconcile without viewing bank account balances, or potentially restricting which bank accounts user s have access to?

If so we have 2 existing ideas you may like to join and I could merge your feedback here in with the first.

Hi everyone, thanks for bumping this idea . We understand you’re looking for a more visible way to split bank transactions from the reconciliation screen, so you can break down a single transaction into multiple categories more easily.

Having the split option more accessible could help make reconciliation quicker and reduce the need to search through additional steps.

We’ll continue to keep track of this idea and gather feedback from the community.

  6. When reconciling bank statement lines, Xero sometimes automatically selects suggested matches (such as invoices) that may not be correct. If I use the Create tab to record a prepayment, the previous suggested match remains selected. This increases the risk of reconciling to the wrong transaction, as I have to manually untick the incorrect match before reconciling.

It would be much more intuitive and safer if, after creating a prepayment, Xero automatically cleared any previously selected matches so that only the new prepayment is selected for reconciliation. This change would reduce errors and make the workflow more efficient.

Appreciate you sharing this, Donna. The idea is to automatically clear any selected Match items when creating a prepayment during reconciliation, so they can't remain selected by mistake.

I’ve moved this to Gaining Support so we can continue gathering feedback. How would you expect this to work in Xero?

Hi everyone, thanks for all the support for a bank feed with Aldermore Bank. We are aware of the interest here, and are currently exploring the possibility of this feed.

As some of you have noted, the best option for now is to manually import your bank statements into Xero. This will help you keep your accounts up-to-date. You can find instructions on how to do this in our Xero Central article here: Import a bank statement.

Another way you can help is by letting Aldermore Bank know you’d like to see them integrate with Xero. We've found that banks are more likely to prioritise building a feed when they hear directly from their own customers. They can get in touch with our team to start the process here: Register your financial institution for bank feeds.

We want to be transparent that while we're aware of the demand…

  8. In the Xero Accounting App it would be really useful to be able to enter a receive money transaction. This option is only available in the desktop version but for those that receive cash on the move it would be helpful to be able to record this via the app, particularly as it won't show up in a bank feed.

Thanks for sharing this idea. We can understand how being able to create a Receive Money transaction directly in the Xero Accounting mobile app could make it easier to capture transactions while you're away from your computer.

For now, if the payment has already appeared in your bank feed, you can create the transaction during bank reconciliation in the mobile app. If it hasn't reached your bank feed yet, you'll need to wait until you're back on a web browser to enter it manually.

We've updated the status of this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking community interest.

  9. Please change the font and bold the balances on the accounts main screen and move the balance back to the left where it was previously.

I can't figure out why you made this change in the first place as there was nothing wrong with the setup of the old Bank Accounts screen. I do like the added width but you've made it harder to see the balance quickly and it just isn't as user friendly view IMO.

  10. Assign multiple transactions to a project in cash coding. There should also be a projects field on the main page, rather than having to go to "add details>assign to project>search for project>click project>click ok>click reconcile".

As with many travelling workers, many of my transactions for a trip are all bunched together and it would save me so much on bookkeeping time and fees to be able to select multiple statement lines or transactions and "assign all" in one click. Under cash coding makes sense because the checkbox already exists for each line, Projects just becomes another column.

Hi David, appreciate how you may like this option to speed up the efficiency of this process when reconciling, and we'll get a wider sense of the interest behind this from your idea here.

In the meantime, I just wanted to highlight that once the Transfer transactions is created it's possible to open this from the Account transactions tab of the bank account and attach a PDF to the transaction from here.

  12. The current limit is 10 alphanumeric digits. I work with non-profits and need to be able to approximate segmented accounts. At 10 digits, we are up against the limits of what can be encoded. With longer account codes, we could not only encode more information, but also add delimiters to improve readability and extensibility. Longer account codes would also be a workaround for the fact that we cannot create custom report codes. I still think that's a good idea, but I understand it might be technically difficult. I cannot imagine that simply allowing longer account codes would be a big…

Hi Andrew, thanks for highlighting this idea. We can see how having support for longer account codes would make it easier for businesses with more complex chart of accounts structures, or those migrating from other systems, to retain their existing account numbering.

I've updated the status of this idea to Gaining Support. If this is something you'd like to see, please continue to vote and share how longer account codes would support your accounting workflow.

  13. I would like to be able to manually enter Check numbers. Xero thinks I printed a check, but I didn't & I am not able to use that check because it automatically goes to the next number it thinks is unused. Reconciling the bank account amount is more important than the correct check number. For example, if I misprint a check onto a blank piece of paper and need to reprint it, it wants a new check number not the number that I had which wasn't used. I currently have 12 unused checks in my pile because Xero thinks they…

Thanks for sharing this idea 🙂 We’ve moved it to Gaining Support.

We can see how being able to manually enter a check number would be helpful, especially where a check has been misprinted or needs to be reprinted. This would give more flexibility to keep check numbers aligned with the physical check stock while still focusing on getting the bank account reconciled.

  14. Feature request: option to change default currency filter in Bank Reconciliation

    Hello Xero team,
I’d like to submit a feature request regarding the Bank Reconciliation → Find & Match workflow for multi-currency transactions.

When reconciling a bank transaction, Xero defaults to filtering matches to the same currency as the bank account. In cases where the transaction relates to an invoice or bill in a different currency, the user has to manually untick the “same currency only” filter each time.

For users who regularly work with multi-currency transactions, this becomes a repetitive step and an easy thing to miss.

  15. When in a bank account and want to reconcile another bank bank account, it would be really handy from the drop down where we can choose the next bank account to go to, if the number of unreconciled items could also be visible within next to the name of the bank account.

This stops going back to the homepage to see which account to go into next to reconcile.

Thanks for your feedback and for pointing out how the term "Payments" can be confusing—especially for those new to Xero or bookkeeping.

We get that using clearer terms like "Receipt" or "Payment Received" might feel more intuitive and help reduce confusion when working through allocation of payments on an invoice.

  17. The current Xero set-up does not allow the user to change the start date for a bank feed once it has been activated. The start date must be input during the initial set-up and if missed (since it defaults to current date) or is mistyped in error you have to upload historical bank data by CSV. An option in the Bank Account menu to enter an earlier start date would be very useful. Failing that, remove the default so you have to input a start date at initial set-up and a question coming on after that to double check that…

Hi Sanjit, appreciate if missed this can result in extra manual work to back date and import older statement lines to your bank account in Xero.

Enabling the ability to change the start date once set up does create quite a few complexities, however I've slightly altered the title of your idea to reflect the behaviour of setup and we'll start to get a wider sense from the community in this here.

  18. New RBC Royal Bank Feed Flinks is very cumbersome for 2FA it asks for the code twice. It also cannot see the Line of Credit feeds that has to be refreshed separately compared to the old connector (Yodlee?). Would be great if you could give feedback to Flinks for a faster connection.

Hi Samantha, thanks for sharing your feedback on this. The suggestion here is to streamline the two-factor authentication (2FA) process for RBC bank feeds, reducing the need to re-verify as often when accessing your connected accounts.

We’ve updated this idea to **Gaining Support** so we can continue tracking interest and share your feedback with our teams.

A quick note: this post also mentions support for RBC Line of Credit feeds. To keep ideas focused on one improvement at a time, please create a separate idea for that request so it can gather its own feedback and support.

Thanks for your feedback, appreciate how a subtotal of just the selected transactions in section 1 may differ to the full subtotal of transactions shown in section 3.

(Currently you need to go into bank, find transaction in Account Transaction, open, click on options then view Remittance
