Checks - make the payee name field only appear above the address field
Ability to customise check style so payee name field can be placed above the address field.
Purpose: Professionalism with expected layout/formatting of Payee name above the address field.
Hi team, while this idea has been around for sometime we appreciate for those that work with Checks this is an important feature and more customisation of checks would be greatly useful.
To be upfront, this isn't something we have direct plans of right now but will continue to keep a pulse on the interest here and share if there are any updates.
In the meantime, please do make sure to share this with any colleagues or clients that could benefit so they can add their support here.

Attached is a sample of a check I just did showing the address part after clicking "edit" and the end result.

It only lists it as "payee address" in the Edit Check Styles screen, but it prints the payee name as well. I don't have the payee name included with the address at all. Mine has always included the payee name for whatever reason even though it doesn't explicitly list it there. I had always assumed that the "payee address" block on the check was the name and full address. For my checks, that block prints the payee name, with "Attention:" attention name" on line 1, the full street address separated by a comma (if I don't manually put in a hard return to drop the 2nd part of a multiline address down, and then the city/state/zip.
Joe, I've seen what you mentioned with reverting a multiline address to a single line separated by a comma. I do a lot of checks as well, so I've gotten into the habit of clicking on "Edit" next to the address to make it display so I can see that it is still on 2 lines before hitting save to start on m next check. It is an extra click, but it seems to keep that 2 line formatting when I do that.

The problem I have with doing it the way Jayme shows, which I assume is entering the name in the address box, is that Xero doesn’t like multiple lines in the address box and no matter how often I enter and save the information, it randomly reverts to inserting a comma and putting the name and address on the same line. Sounds like a minor inconvenience, but when you are doing a lot of checks quickly and randomly you have to go back, void the check and reprint after correcting the address setup, it is unnecessary and time/printed check wasting and costing us money.
I am simply asking for an additional input separating the name from the address that can be selected and lined up appropriately in “check setup” -

Jayme, the Edit Check Styles option only allows for us to add a "payee address" which does not include the contact name. Are you adding the contact name into another place inside a contact record or doing something else to get this to look the way your sample does?

The checks I generate from Xero have the payee name in 2 places. One is in the payee section, and the other is with the payee address. The only customization I had to do was to line up the payee name and address to appear properly to fit into our window envelopes. I'm confused by the comments. Do your checks not print the same way?

This is absolutely a critical feature! Would you personally mail an important check to someone using just a street address (with no Payee name)? Unacceptable. Not every transaction can be paid via ACH... there HAS to be a fix for this in the check templates.

This doesn't seem to be going away. To those of us who have expressed the desire to get this fixed, we are passionate about it.
Is there a way for you to do a login poll or pop-up poll of all of your subscribers to find out how many users are actually affected? I'd bet that there are users who only accept how it is (having had hopes of change dashed by Microsoft or Apple time and time again), not knowing that Xero has created an opportunity to participate in the development of it's product.

This is a must fix!!!!!!
We are running the risk of our checks not being delivered. This is completely unacceptable. Also, this is a VERY simple fix.
If Xero really cares for their customers, they should fix this immediately.

Another new Xero user. I agree with all of the comments. I was surprised that this was not already an existing feature. Checks must show the Payee Name above the address in order to use the window envelopes. I recognize the push may be towards ACH, but plenty of places still require/request checks. I need to be able to mail them. Seems list such a simple fix.

It is really ridiculous that something as vitally important as the ability to print a check with the recipient's name above their address so that the post office can deliver it, has not been corrected in Xero. This is such a simple fix!
All you have to do is add an additional payee's name field which can be checked and added when customizing your checks. With Quickbooks turning on all of their Desktop customers that they've had for the last 20+ years and locking them out of their books, you would think Xero would cease the opportunity the inherit all of those millions of customers. To do so however, the simplest things like being able to print a check with someone's name above their address would need to work properly!

New Xero user. Agree with all of the comments. This needs to be fixed ASAP. The check must show the Payee Name above the address in order to use the window envelopes. And interestingly, it is only this way in 1 of our 2 organizations...so it worked correctly at some point.

This MUST be fixed, especially for those who use window envelopes. I print the name in the address area which creates 2 lines of address before the city field. Boy, Xero does not like that. It continually corrects it by adding a comma and removing the return command. AND the us postal service doesn't like that!
6 distinct address elements: Name, mailing location, city, state, Zip, and sometimes country.
Not a programming or development difficulty.

This is REALLY annoying!!!
I don't know why Xero would be the only software in the world that I've ever heard of that doesn't offer an option to have the person's name above the address.
This means that we cannot use our window envelopes to mail any of our checks. Who ever heard of that??????????????
This would be such a SIMPLE thing to fix. Just add the field as an option, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the modern AI world we live in, this is nearly unbelievable that addresses can't print correctly on checks and print the same every time.

Please, please, please fix this. I work with another Xero org that was started almost a year ago and this is not an issue. Why is it available in some orgs and not others?

Thanks Kelly - this would be a very important feature as I do write checks and now need to hand write the name above the address for mailing - which isn't very professional.

We are submitting a case today to Xero Central, when a Payee Name is changed/edited (adding a middle name to existing Contact) the PRIOR NAME prints on check as Payee, and UPDATED NEW NAME prints above the mailing address, wow makes us look really bad with our customer.

I'm surprised this hasn't been address. I am in the USA, and the standard here with postal mail is to include the "addressee" name above the street address. A fix here might be to have the Check Setup Feature allow a user to check a box to include the Contact Name above the Contact Address when checks are printed.

Were there no work around, this would be of "Critical" importance. I agree with the sentiments of prior postings. I'm surprised this issue has been around for over a year...as a new subscriber that's disappointing. I look forward to the resolution.
