Bills - Email to bills without requiring it to be an attachment

Often companies email invoices but they aren't a PDF - just an email.
So you have to print the email as a PDF - then send to Xero Bills.
It would be good if you could just send through the email invoice (no PDF) to Xero Bills and it was processed without being a PDF.

Hi team, apologies for the mismatch in my last update and appreciate the feedback we received on this. 

While our new bills upload feature might be handy for some customers in automating their bills process, reviewing the idea here I can totally understand how this does not solve for where you receive an invoice within the body of an email.

We'll open this idea back up, and I want to be transparent that this isn't something we have direct plans for developing atm, however we'll continue to keep eyes on the support here and share if there is any progress surrounding this, here. Thanks

    I would like to bump up this request as well. So many of my bills are within the email itself not as a separate attachment. I have moved from HubDoc to using Xero but now I feel like I need to move back again.

    Honestly it's 2026, the fact that Xero still does not have such a basic feature and is incapable of parsing as text email invoice is ridiculous, come on with all the increases in charges this basic capability should have been in years ago. You're asking customers to print to PDF/Screengrab and re-attached an email to an email to parse the text. Please get this feature in place there's literally XERO excuse for a company this size to omit something a basic dev could knock up in a day. If your system can read a JPEG or a PDF then internally all it needs to do is parse the email in any email reader take an automated screen grab or save to PDF and pass it to the standard OCR parser. This is basic stuff.

    This would be so simple to achieve. Other accounting softwares do it. Makes using xero quite a hassle. Should be a priority as we all feel this pain on a daily basis

    As an alternative, could Xero add the capability to read a file in the .eml format for emails, in addition to the currently supported file formats?
    Then it would be straightforward to "forward as attachment" any emails with invoices in the email body.

    These are not uploaded into Draft in Xero
    So you have to print the email as a PDF - then send to Xero Bills.
    It would be good if you could just send through the email invoice (no PDF) to Xero Bills and it was processed without being a PDF.

    This is becoming increasingly frequent (bill content in an HTML email not as a pdf attachment). Hubdoc can read email content, so bringing that capability into bill processing should be achievable.

    There are some companies that invoice in emails, without attachments. At present, to add these to bills, they need screenshotting and then entering or forwarding to the bills ingest email.

    Instead it would be good if the body of the email were scanned when there is no attachment.
