Hi everyone, thank you for your continued input and feedback through this idea. Since my last update as some may have seen we have announced a new plan Xero Simple designed to support non VAT registered sole traders and landlords, as they prepare for the next phase of Making Tax Digital. And, that MTD IT will be available for all Xero business plans - see more on my update here.
While we understand the desire from small businesses in Xero Tax for the UK, our intention is for this to remain a Partner only feature. We'd highly recommend connecting with a Xero adviser if this is a tool you'd like to make use of.

I really need this as well, BEFORE MARCH 2026 WHEN THE HMRC ONLINE SERVICE FOR SUBMITTING CORPORATION TAX RETURNS STOPS.
Our main justification to pay for Xero is it saves he cost of an accountant!
Currently HMRC lists Xero as an alternative software package for submitting tax returns after Mar 2026; but at the moment this is not an option in Xero unless you are a professional accountancy firm.
If Xero does not intend to make this service available you will need to ask HMRC to remove you from their list of commercial software that can do this. -

Issues setting up integration with GoCardless and another software package has left us with several thousand "phantom" invoices that we now need to void.

Xero is great if you are using a large widescreen monitor - on a small laptop, not so much. It would be really helpful to have a "compact" switch allowing less thant the current large amount of white space between columns etc. and the possibility of fitting in both the Xero window and another window (excel or bank) on the same screen!
Or just reduce the minimum space between columns when shrinking a window?annette colton

Hi community, thanks for the strong support in being able to attach files within Xero Payroll, both for employee records and pay runs. We really appreciate you sharing the value and efficiency this could create for you when working with Xero. It's evident that being able to store important documents like licenses, sick notes, and onboarding papers directly in Xero would remove the need for external storing systems or manual processes.
We acknowledge it's not the end goal but wanted to highlight the use of apps, as some have shared like Dext, to help bridge this gap in the meantime.
I want to assure you that enabling attachments in payroll is part of our long-term intentions. However, to deliver this functionality effectively and reliably, we first need to develop some foundational elements within our payroll platform.

1) option to split employees into groups or teams
2) option to give a team member access to approve leave and expenses for rest of team but NOT access to other teams expenses. -

Hey community, thanks for your continued interest and feedback on this idea.
Right now, you can set up bank rules to code future payroll payments, or turn on Suggest previous entries so that Xero suggests a transaction each time.

Please could Xero automatically generate an invoice for the total amount of PAYE, NI, student loan from Payroll, and a separate invoice for CIS due to HMRC every month, coded to the correct "payable" accounts, which can then be reconciled with the single payment we make to HMRC?
It would be a real help not to have to sort out manually how much of each combined monthly payment should be assigned to each of at least 4 payable account.annette colton

Hey everyone, thanks for all the support and engagement on this idea.
To be transparent with you all, building a dedicated bank feed for GoCardless isn't something we have in our plans right now.
While we don't have a direct bank feed for GoCardless, we still want to make sure you can easily reconcile these payments in Xero - When your customer pays, Xero automatically reconciles the individual invoice payments and fees in a dedicated GoCardless clearing account. You'll then just need to manually reconcile the bank transfer when the payout from GoCardless arrives in your bank account.
We’ll be sure to post an update here if our plans change.

The older "Gocardless 4 Xero" app is till available in the xero app store, and it still works for a colleague of mine, so it should be a matter of moments to implement.

Really need this. The older "GoCardless 4 Xero" app which does this is still listed in teh Xero app store, but tryng to install it diverts to the payment service installation.
Please could we just have a choice of installing the original app, or the recommended payment service, instead of teh automatic divert.
This could make it clear that the app is not supported through Xero and people should only install this rather than the payment service if there is a have a good reason to! -

Hi everyone, we appreciate the number of users that'd like to see more mechanisms to assign and control who approves specific employee's claims.
Our product teams have a close eye on this idea, and while this feature is not in the roadmap atm, they'll keep reviewing this as they continue to plan and prioritise work for Expenses. So, if there us any shift in status we'll share an update to keep you all informed on the idea, here.

Permission for expenses approval for specific employee groups only
We would like to be able to set permissions so managers can approve leave and expenses for employees they manage, but not see/approve expenses for employees in other groupsI need managers to be able to approve expenses for people in their team, but it creates confidentiality problems if these managers can then see everyones expenses, incl our directors/other managers, and approve their own.
It would be really helpful if we could set permissions for both leave and expenses approval for specific employee groups only. Ideally also a setting so these "intermediate" permission holders can't approve their own expenses or leave.

Thanks for the great discussion and all the votes on this idea. We know that without the ability to set specific leave approvers, it can be harder to keep governance clear, avoid self-approval and ensure requests go to the right person.
While we’re not planning to develop dedicated approval workflows in the near term, we want to share a tip that many have found useful. You can help streamline the process by guiding employees to select their direct manager from the approver list. While all payroll admins and leave approvers are listed, this step helps make sure requests reach the right person and keeps oversight clear.
Your feedback here is incredibly valuable for future planning and we’ll continue to keep an eye on this idea’s traction. We’ll keep it open for voting and will share any updates if plans change down the track.

Hi everyone, thanks for sharing your feedback on the needs for leave approvers to view upcoming leave for their team. We appreciate you highlighting how important it is to have better oversight of team leave without needing full payroll access.
Our product team is looking into how this idea may fit into a wider review of team management in AU payroll. This is in the early stages of review so not currently on the team’s roadmap, but we'll keep you updated as we learn more.

Improving user permissions and providing greater control over sensitive data is a key area of focus for us. While we have no specific feature to announce today, your feedback is critical in shaping the future of this part of Xero.

We also agree that this would add significant value to Xero Expenses. That’s why we’re pleased to update the status of this idea to Accepted. This means we have reviewed your feedback and it aligns with our product vision.
While it is a feature we’d like to build, it’s not currently on our roadmap, so we can't provide a delivery timeframe just yet. We will share another update on this thread as soon as we have more news.

The HMRC website lists Xero as an approved option for approved software for small businesses to submit corporation tax returns directly, from 2026.
Please can Xero implement a feature to do this directly for small businesses, as well as the current version which is only available to professional accountants through the "Xero Partners" programme?
If Xero is not planning to implement a company tax submission feature for small businesses then this it is very misleading to advertise it on the HMRC website?
