Hi community, we understand user roles and the permissions a user has across an organisation is important to many businesses. Right now, as some may have seen across other ideas I've updated - we have some research underway to help us better understand where and how we might best tackle the most predominant needs in roles.
To make sure we're getting a good scope across our products - we'd like to offer those interested in roles & permissions for payroll to join the research here. If you'd like to be a part of this, please fill in this short form here ✍️and our team will be in touch over the coming weeks. 🙂
Just to set the expectation, the research and discovery for this project is likely to take a few months. Once outcomes are formed from the research, I'll be able to return and share what the next steps…

By making someone a 'Payroll Admin' (currently the only option to access payroll), they have access to everything. My preference would be to have different levels of access / permissions. In particular setting the access to the payroll calendars. We have 3 calendars setup = Monthly, Weekly, and Part Time Weekly. For example, I need some users to be able to administer the Part time payroll only. Currently this open access to all areas of payroll creates a big problem with confidentiality.

Appreciate the idea here - Being transparent, developing granular permissions or roles for every feature and action throughout Xero is not in our plans.
Understanding more of the permission sets majority of users need, will help understand where the biggest impact could be made.
I've slightly adjusted the title to suit the needs of the role you mentioned. We'll get a sense of others that'd like this too.

Kelly or any Xero Admins, are you going to give us any indication if user permissions are going to have any more options? This is now limiting my business as there are tasks I should have my team doing, such as weekly payroll without seeing monthly payroll, but there is no option at all for payroll, it's either Yes or No to payroll.
Some feedback would be appreciated as to whether this is going to be looked at by Xero. Payroll in particular. -

We thank you all for sharing in the idea here, and understand there are many permissions that our Xero customers would like to provide on a more incremental basis. As you'll all know access to bank accounts is available to users with Adviser, Standard or limited access to those with Read Only roles - You can see more of the breakdown in our article here
With much of the teams resource drawn to work on the platform that'll continue to help us with the 'building on beautiful' experience for our customers we want to be upfront that there are no direct plans for altering the user permissions in this space just yet.
User roles and individual permissions within a bank account will be in the limelight once much of the platform upgrades are complete, but this is some way off atm. We'll return to share when there's any…

An error occurred while saving the comment Jillian Shedden commentedAgree with above, I have users who need to be able to raise purchase orders but I do not want them to see all purchase invoices or view the unpaid bills balance.
Similar to the Business and Accounting setup, we need the ability to select sections of the payroll for the different user types.
The current settings available in Business & Accounting are:
Invoice Only / Standard / Advisor / Read Only
In payroll we have only one option. For confidentiality reasons, this is not practical at all. My suggestions for user roles would be:
Timesheets Only - user can process payroll with restricted views: change hours, add overtime, make deductions and add holiday requests - all of these would need to be approved by another user.
Standard - user can process payroll, can make changes to limited sections of the employee details. Cannot make changes to rates of pay, payroll settings.
Advisor - full access, as is standard now.
Read Only -
I see on another post recently that Xero don't have any plans for user roles, I would ask Xero to reconsider this for payroll. Please!
