  1. In files, previewing a PDF that has been uploaded or sent to files will not work for many chrome users.

    Upon opening in files, it gives the error "This file can't be previewed with this browser."

    This occurs if the user has google chrome, and has google chrome set to "Download PDFs" instead of "Open PDFs in Chrome."

    Thanks for the detail in your last message, Carlo. We appreciate some users may expect this to work differently, however as you have noted the files preview for PDF's is driven by the browser settings.

    If you're finding your PDF's download rather than being able to view them in your browser we would recommend looking at your browser settings to make sure the option to view in browser has been selected (as per the screenshot you shared).

    Being upfront this is not behavior that we're looking to change in the near future.

  2. Hi,

    I would like to suggest a small but valuable improvement to the Projects section in Xero. Currently, in the "Quotes & Invoices" tab within a project, only the invoice number is displayed, which is useful for tracking. However, for many businesses, including ours, it would be incredibly helpful if both the invoice number and the reference field could be shown simultaneously in the project’s invoice summary view.

    This improvement would enhance visibility and make it easier to track project-specific details without losing sight of important invoice numbers.

  3. I am looking for an alternative to Quickbooks. As a solo consultant, I thought Xero would be the most appropriate fit for my business. Unfortunately, the fact that I need to subscribe to the top pricing plan at $115 per month in order to be able to bill for time is totally unrealistic. I thought Xero promoted itself as being a good fit for small business???? I don't need to track projects, I just need to be able to bill by the hour and invoice my 2 clients on a monthly basis. I'm sure I wouldn't be alone in these…

  4. Xero Payroll restricts the payment date to no more than 90 days after the end of the payroll period. This isn't a legal or taxation limitation, but does restrict the occassions where clients are paying payroll in less regular intervals (such as paying their entire salary annually).

    Hi team, while we appreciate the request here,considering compliance requirements for payroll in AU we want to be upfront that we don't have plans for changing the ability to set the payment date beyond 90 days.

    For any employees that you may pay on an annual salary basis, we'd recommend setting the payment date 90 days before the employee's annual pay date.

  5. Have an option in settings to only allow employees to access their payslip and not create. Our employees enter their timesheets into a job management system which is synced to xero for actual payroll and timesheets however on occasion they accidentally create a payslip in xero me and it creates a heap of issues down stream

  6. Bank Reconciliation - Having a Reconciled By column.
    It would be very helpful to have a column in the bank account transactions screen that shows who reconciled the transaction. I have a client who thinks they are helping by reconciling their own transactions only to get most of them wrong. If there was a column showing the reconciler then I would very quickly be able to ascertain the transactions i need to review by running a history and notes report for that period.

  7. When running the GST Transactions Report, each and every line from each invoice is reported separately, creating a ridiculously large report.
    Perhaps there could be one single line per invoice, reporting the total GST for that invoice? Like it used to be?

  8. Xero has removed the ability for casual employees to apply for annual leave if that leave is available to them. Annual leave is part of my casual employees employment contracts. The employees and I have agreed that they will receive annual leave and sick leave.

    These leave types were catered for in the past and the employees were able to apply for them when required. Now, despite still accruing those leave types, they are unable to apply for them.

  9. Xero made a lot of noise about how good the 'new invoicing' feature would be. Users gave plenty of feedback early on when new invoicing was optional, both in comments and by not switching over to new invoicing. Xero proceeded with the change seemingly unaware of the negative mood amongst users to the new invoicing feature.

    The product ideas section show, only in it's first 5 pages, 43 product ideas about new invoicing. Many of these product ideas are requests for previously available features to be made available again. Many of the ideas are under consideration or being worked on.

    Appreciate your feedback, Martin. I can assure you throughout the build of new invoicing we have engaged and tested out features with many different users. To keep customers informed throughout we have shared blog posts and regularly update our Xero Central page with what's been delivered and what's to come.

    Being such a widely used feature, we have focused on features that suit majority of our customers needs. We appreciate some customers still want to see more development and we are continuing to enhance this new invoicing experience.

  13. Expenses, the Categories field should be wide enough to display the text on the website. Note that the mobile app works fine.
    Or there should be the ability to nest categories.
    As a web developer, widening the Categories field should be trivial. Apparently not according to Xero support....

  14. New Invoicing. I see we got the ability to mark as sent when printing, which is great and fixes one of many defects which made me go back to classic a year ago. But the prompt that appears is bizzare and confusing. Classic always had "mark as sent" or "leave as it is" ... however new has "mark as sent" or "Canel" - which implies cancel the print job - except it doesn't (the x does this)... So on one hand a user if confused by cancel if they want to print without marking as sent, and 2 if they…

The new invoicing page design has created a bloated feature-packed version of invoicing that, whilst great for companies who regularly email or print invoices for posting, is an absolute pain in the proverbial to navigate for companies such as ours who only create invoices for accounting purposes, and never send them out.

  19. Our business is growing, and now we employ over 60 employees. Is it possible to have more than 50 employees listed on one page for payroll processing?
    It looks like '50' is the maximum of line items in the drop-down menue, and I have to go the the second page in order to approve all employees for the payroll.
