NZ Tax - IR3 Individual Tax Return option for end users
I am a sole trader. I started using Xero to see how it helped with my taxes. The road has been... rocky. Largely because Xero largely ignores soletraders and their specific needs.
For instance, Xero has no IR3 reports (NZ IRD) set up that we can use.
And we can't have depreciation amounts at the same time as accounts in a report.
We also can't limit which accounts appear in a report.
For me, as a sole trader, I have wound up with personal and business expenses and income mixed in my bank accounts. I have also created personal accounts that let me categorise my personal expenses in accounts that I have specifically setup so that they don't get mixed into my business information.
Previously to Xero, I used a bank account importer, and a spreadsheet for 20 years as a sole trader. Worked fine, if not very elegant.
Now I find that in order to submit my IR3 return, I can get various pieces of information out of Xero, which I then type into my IR3 return spreadsheet.
There's no way of getting this specific information out of Xero as a report.
PLEASE, PLEASE just give us the ability to get our specific information out in one go.
An IR3 report (that we can adjust) would be a good start.
But it definately needs the ability to limit which accounts are appearing in that report.

Purchase Order - Add attachments when copied to bill
When you mark a PO as billed and copy to a draft bill the files attached to the PO don't remain with it and attach to the draft bill. Very annoying that you have to re-save the file and re-attach it to the bill

Bank Reconciliation - Ability to merge bank accounts
If a Xero client has a credit card that is cancelled due to scam or new card etc, the only option is to create a new bank feed for the card so you can continue to get the data. In this instance, you end up with two bank accounts on your Xero file, both with a balance. At the moment, you can only do a transfer to move 1 balance to the other, than archive the one not needed. It would be nice to be able to merge the two together so that the balance works and the transactions stay together as they are technically the same account. This only seems to occur with credit cards so far that I have seen.

Login - Move 'Trust device' option above Login button
Its a small change but something that bugs me as i do it at least once, sometimes twice, a day.
Currently the "trust this device" check box is below the login button. If logging in solely on a keyboard you have to enter 2fa code, tab twice and hit the space bar to check the trust this device box then shift tab to go back up to the login button. So the keystrokes are enter 2fa, tab, tab, space, shift tab, enter
If the check box was between the password and login button then it would be, enter 2fa code, tab, space, tab, enter.
Its a very small and easy change and i think it just makes more sense.

Bill Payments - Add a bank account to Planned payment
Hi, I would love the ability to select one of our bank accounts or credit cards on the awaiting payments screen for each bill. i can select the planned date however this only tells me when it is going to be paid and it would be useful for planning if i was able to select for example the credit card it is DD from or bank account to aid in budgeting and cashflow.

Trial Balance - Enable "Edit Layout"
As a workaround for an issue caused by the obsolete Xero payroll service, Xero support suggested that I use the "edit layout" feature to group 2 accounts in the report. However, Trial Balance does not have an "edit layout" button, so I am stuck displaying 2 accounts that have canceling balances. One of the accounts is the system Accounts Payable account so I am not able to resolve the issue "correctly" with a manual journal entry. Editing the report layout is my only option.

AU - Manually edit AU GST on transactions
In Australia, users need to be able to manually edit the amount of GST paid on a transaction. This is required because certain transactions (particularly grocery and pharmacy transactions) have a mixture of items, some of which have GST applied, and some that do not. Unfortunately, the receipts for these types of transactions do not indicate which specific items have incurred GST - they just have a total amount of GST paid on that receipt. As such, it would be great if users could just override the total amount of GST paid for those receipts. See attached for an example of such a receipt.

Bills | Awaiting payment - Ability to overide maximum of 200 bills.
Awaiting payment - max 200 bills.
I have a supplier who I pay monthly and there are always over 200 bills. I want to make one batch payment for the whole amount, but currently I have to do it on two - the first 200 bills, and then the remaining. Please can this 200 limit be increased?55 votes -
New invoicing - Scan item UPC's to add them to an invoice/PO
I think being able to connect a barcode scanner to xero to allow users to create a new invoice and scan items to have them appear as line items would be very beneficial to many customers. A lot of people use xero to resell items and if i could create a new invoice and instead of manually type everything, to just scan the UPC and have the item pop up would help prevent human errors

Sales invoices - Bulk date change
Could we have a bulk date change please for when we are ready to send a lot of draft invoices or any in awaiting approval (and in the repeating 'payment due date' section)
we rely on the repeating function but its a pain to go in and change them one at a time when there's loads, especially when they copy over into draft aswell, its a mammoth taski.e also an option for '30 days payment due upon receipt of invoice' 😃

Brand Templates - Interactive
Ability to create invoice templates interactively via Xero rather than through a word (.Docx) file.
This would allow ease when creating invoice templates for myself as well as clients

New invoicing - Freeze header row when editing
Copy to Draft
We use copy to a draft invoice every day for Sales Entries in a Hotel Business.
The base Sales Invoice has numerous lines for all the possibilities to process each day's
sales. EG: Sales - Bottleshop, Sales - Bar, Sales - Bistro etc. There are approximately 50 lines on each Sales Invoice. Amounts are updated in the row that is applicable. Some rows will be $0 on some days. The GL codes need to stay the same.New invoicing is bring in a "default GL account" when the previous Sales Invoice had a $0 in that line. This appears to be the first Income Account in our Chart.
This is very frustrating & dangerous & has created errors in our coding.
We are having to check every line is correctly coded to the right GL account, before posting.
This is not giving us confidence in the New Invoicing feature. Also The spacing of the GL Account Code Column is too small.
After the GL code number & the start of the GL Account Name we can only see about 8 characters. With many Account Names like Income - Accommodation, Income Bottleshop etc, we have to click into the field to check the correct coding.
It would be much better if we could see either all & a much longer Account Name field. In addition, the row headings need to be fixed, so as you move down the lines of entry, it is clear what column you are entering into.
Thank you for some of the improvements in this area - of Copy to Draft.
We desperately would like those above also fixed.Copy to Draft

1 voteThanks for your feedback and sharing this with us here, Stuart.
Appreciate the detail and screenshot you've shared. You're first note around the account code filling may be related to the auto suggestion feature and I've added your vote onto this idea so if there's any change there, you'll be updated.
We also have a separate idea around viewing the full account name that I've also added you on to, here.
In relation to freezing or having a floating header row - Can see where creating longer invoices this could be helpful too. I've updated the title of your idea here so we can begin tracking interest specifically in this and share if there are developments.

Invoices/Quotes - Customise link to view online, rather than showing the full URL
It would be great if you could customise what text is displayed with placeholders on the client end, for example, for the [online quote/invoice link] options, I'd rather they could be displayed simply the other end, instead of the long web link which looks a bit spammy...ie 'please access your quote here' - and it's 'here' that links - as a normal hyperlink would

Quotes - Make 'invalid account' warnings appear in a new window
When entering a quote, we have to enter an account code for every line of a quote. If we type one in incorrectly (for example entering code 2000 instead of 200), then Xero opens a link to add account codes. The problem is that this does this in the same window. You cannot go back to your 38 line quote that you spent nearly a half hour creating because Xero didn't open a new window, no they put the link to new account codes in the same window as the quote. If you hit the back button to get back to the quote, it takes you to a new and empty quote. Can you please stop doing this? If you need to take us to a new account code window, make it a separate and new window. Please.

Bills - Tax Amount value button for quick +/- adjustments
When entering a new bill, sometimes the VAT value is out by a few pence.
A spinner button added to the 'Tax Amount' column to quickly increase or decrease the value rather than having to delete and retype would be convenient.
See attached image of example.

Export invoice
A feature to export the status of outstanding invoices/overview in PDF Format. Currently its only available on Excel format.
2 votesWould this be so you can get the Overdue by column, Kristel? If that column isn't really a concern, you could run the Receivable Invoice Summary report atm and filter this by Status = Approved to get all but the Overdue by column. This report can be exported to Excel, Google Sheets or PDF.

UK Payroll - Choose which leave types employees can select
Unallocated leave. The only leave an employee should be allowed to create is leave that has been allocated to them. Unpaid leave if it has been created is automatically an option for all employees despite them not having it allocated to them. And thus the employees choose that leave which also requires no approval, which should also be a thing, why can employees automatically give themself unpaid leave without manager approval? So 2 changes above that I'd like implemented

aged debtors
Ability to see aged debtors' balance in the currency the invoice was generated in, not just in your base currency, otherwise, it is difficult to calculate how much a customer owes. The same is true when you view the balance for a contact. It shows the issuing currency for each entry, but the total is only shown in the base currency, which is not helpful if you need to inform someone of the balance outstanding.
