Homepage - Simplify layout
The beta version of the new Xero layout. updated interface feels overly busy and cluttered, which makes navigation more difficult—particularly for clients who manage multiple bank accounts.
I believe users should have the choice to switch to the new layout when they’re ready, rather than being automatically transitioned.
Additionally, clients pay for Xero to streamline their financial management, not to have advertising pushed at them.
The current design detracts from the user experience and makes it harder to find and complete tasks efficiently.
Hi community, thank you for all the engagement and we can see the growing interest in improvements to help simplify your view of information on the new Homepage and navigate important information and insights with more ease.
Right now, our team have a few pieces of work underway intended to help with some of the pain points that have been raised here these include:
- More options for the sizing of widgets so you can reduce these frames and better position this information on your screen
- More customisation of information within a widget like being able to remove visuals
- Improving the experience of moving widgets when editing the homepage to make it more obvious when dragging and dropping them to different positions on the page
We’ve also roadmapped further changes for later this year, once everyone is on the new experience. I’ll share more updates as we progress.

Come on, XERO - Listen to the people who pay your wages. The new page is a mess, and the old one worked well. Why change it?
If you MUST change what is working, please also update the Permissions so sensitive information can not be displayed to all staff.

How the new interface is an improvement is beyond me. Instead of making the mobile app more user-friendly, they are introducing something that is little to no improvement for me.

The homepage feels overcrowded. It would be great if there were an option to switch back to the currently used homepage and keep that available. This new version doesn’t help my work at all.

I have had to hide 90% of the info - who cares what the last invoice paid was..! I can't see what I need to see - the banks for example without hiding all the useless widgets!
Who cares how much the bank is out by....! It's a meaningless figure until you go in to reconcile.
Maybe consult with an accountant rather than an IT geek to find out what those of us who use it day to day need!
Xero are making it useless for anything other than a small sole trader who is impressed by bells and whistles and meaningless figures on the front page!
Go back to what you used to be good at! -

Or, here's a thought - stop messing with cosmetic stuff which most people don't care about and start dealing with the stuff that is actually important. Have you really had so many people asking to change the front page that you had to do this or were you looking for something easy to do that makes it look like you're actually doing something when, in reality, all you're doing is making things more difficult for your users?

Switch back the homepage to the way it was. This new update is cluttered, difficult to read and information is being lost. Also, it is very tiring on the eyes

For people following my CSS hacks, I've made some tweaks/updates and general improvements... usual disclaimers apply, but feel free to use what you want - if you're using these already, you know what to do.
@-moz-document domain(go.xero.com) {
/* Widget border */
.dashboard-template-beta-widget--contents article { border: 1px solid #c0c0c0; }/* Account watchlist compact mode */
.accounts-watchlist-widget-readonlytablerow td { font-size: 12px !important; padding: 4px 16px 4px 0 !important; }/* Restore VAT submissions separator */
.mtd-vat-dashboard-widget-wt-widget-template--body hr { visibility: visible !important; }/* To fix the number of columns, choose one of the following (not both): */
/* Fix columns to 3 columns regardless of screen size */
.dashboard-template-beta-grid { grid-template-columns: repeat(3, 1fr) !important; max-width: 1360px !important; }/* OR */
/* Fix columns to 2 columns regardless of screen size */
.dashboard-template-beta-grid { grid-template-columns: repeat(2, 1fr) !important; max-width: 900px !important; }/* Stretching the Account Watchlist to full height to remove the scrollbar. YOU'LL NEED TO MODIFY THIS! Right-click on your widget and "inspect" source, then count the position of your Account Watchlist widget (widgets are a list of <div> inside a <tr>). The number of rows you need will depend on how many accounts you are watching. */
/* Full height account watchlist - change "8" to actual widget position/index, and "6" to required row count */
.dashboard-template-beta-grid > .dashboard-template-beta-widget:nth-child(8) { grid-area: span 6 / span 1 !important; height: auto !important }
.dashboard-template-beta-widget--contents { height: auto !important }
.accounts-watchlist-widget-AccountsWatchlistWidgetContent { height: auto !important; }}
Important: If you're fixing the number of columns, and/or stretching the account watchlist your widgets need to be in the same position on all dashboard resolutions/sizes (2, 3 and 4 columns). You can still edit dashboard with these hacks in place, ensuring you can get the right set-up.
Hope that's helpful for people. I know some people are using these hacks to make the new dashboard more usable.

The new homepage feels a lot more cluttered than the old one. I do hope Xero will reconsider keeping the old format as an option.
It was bad enough that some useful shortcuts* were removed at the last upgrade, this feels like taking 10 steps back not a move forward.*the ability to have 'tracking categories' in the quick access menu - for those that use this frequently, this is a vital function

Please allow us to revert to the old version. It was much cleaner and more concise. This new version is simply terrible being far too busy. I run three entities through Xero. It is a huge disappointment to have this forced on us.

The new version of the Xero layout feels cluttered and disorganized. The updated interface presents a collection of small boxes that overwhelm the screen, making it visually confusing and even dizzying to navigate. Finding what I need has become a frustrating experience, as I often have to start from scratch and spend extra time searching for things. Overall, the new design is not user-friendly. The old version was much simpler, cleaner, and far more efficient to use.

Thanks for the update. However despite the fact that one is able to remove widgets, the new look is still cluttered and too busy. The old version was easy on the eye and easy to navigate. Not sure why it was changed????

Also, the level of Commercially Sensertive inform,ation that is avalable is a real concern. Compeditors would live to know who chstomers are/proft etc.
Come on, XERO - think about your customers and their business rather than just making changes to keep your software people busy.
There are LOTS of requests supported by many, many others that are far more important than something like this!

Put the graph back! It is a real pain to visually see our account health now! How can making widgets bigger to show less information be an upgrade?

I find the new layout tiring on the eyes.. Finance doesn't need cute bubbles - but practical simplified layout that helps everyday, practical tasks.
