Homepage - Simplify layout
The beta version of the new Xero layout. updated interface feels overly busy and cluttered, which makes navigation more difficult—particularly for clients who manage multiple bank accounts.
I believe users should have the choice to switch to the new layout when they’re ready, rather than being automatically transitioned.
Additionally, clients pay for Xero to streamline their financial management, not to have advertising pushed at them.
The current design detracts from the user experience and makes it harder to find and complete tasks efficiently.
Hi community, thank you for all the engagement and we can see the growing interest in improvements to help simplify your view of information on the new Homepage and navigate important information and insights with more ease.
Right now, our team have a few pieces of work underway intended to help with some of the pain points that have been raised here these include:
- More options for the sizing of widgets so you can reduce these frames and better position this information on your screen
- More customisation of information within a widget like being able to remove visuals
- Improving the experience of moving widgets when editing the homepage to make it more obvious when dragging and dropping them to different positions on the page
We’ve also roadmapped further changes for later this year, once everyone is on the new experience. I’ll share more updates as we progress.

I absolutely love this! If it can keep that when you go into the bank then revert back to the overall bank account screen, that would be grand. We have 6 bank accounts, so it's lovely to see it stay in this format. AND I work on Xero daily!!

Not a fan of the new layout - it all looks the same. I recently moved all our entities to Xero but I am starting to regret it. Please at least bring back the widget showing which bank the account is with! It takes longer to differentiate when you have 10+ bank accounts with multiple banks, all with similar account names.

Absolutely horrible to look at and use. Spent 5 minutes trying to arrange it how I want - very frustrating as things kept jumping around. Gave up in a rage and went back to the old layout which I shall continue to use .
Once again Xero's 'new and improved' is a shambles and anything but. -

No idea how to submit a new feature request, so doing it hear. But on the homepage, a widget chat/note area that is for business owner and accounting management team to put in quick communication points. Like a mini notebook. Keeping it simple and useful to communicate on topics

So now Xero has switched off the classic dashboard? Without fixing the issues with the new dashboard first? Why does Xero completely disregard what customers actually want? None of the promised fixes above have been implemented and now we can't even revert back to the classic dashboard.

@Kelly Ross - Came here to say this. Thank you for summing up my thoughts in a succinct and professional way. @Xero - PLEASE implement the option to make the new format optional. Our company uses multiple bank accounts and functions within the platform, and with the new layout the home screen is overly cluttered. We do not want sizing customization, we want the old format back.

As someone who is who is neurodivergent (ADHD), this new layout is just too difficult to comprehend and use. I'm struggling with it because it is creating an unnecessary barrier that's keeping me from effectively completing my work. In fact, writing this report is taking up valuable constructive work time now.
There's too much information on the dashboard, which looks too busy and very cluttered, as per the OP's description. The new layout definitely should not be mandatory, in fact it should be scrapped.

Come on, XERO, listen to your users or suffer the consequences - loss of market share.
Do you ever check these changes before releasing them?

Xero - this is a real mess
We do not use the "Expayment Option" as it is not suitable! Why can we NOT remove this from the Home Page? It is pointless to have something that users do not use on this messy page!
XERO, please keep what is working (the old Home page) which worked well and force this on your employeer - the user!

Almost every comment here is against the new home page - listen to your users and do not force this horrible, poorly functioning layout and design upon us

Just leave the current homepage alone; there is nothing wrong with it, and I totally hate the new one. I have been unhappy with Xero and pricing for lite users being non existent this may be the final straw that makes me move to QuickBooks or similar.

I really dislike the new dashboard.
Why does Xero keep redesigning things that were already working instead of improving the features users have actually been asking for? There are long-standing requests that still haven’t been addressed, yet we keep getting forced UI redesigns.
The new widgets are far too dominant and “in your face”. The old dashboard was much more streamlined and easier to scan quickly.
The vertical layout made far more sense. Information flowed naturally from top to bottom. The new horizontal layout feels cluttered and harder to read. There is a reason newspapers were historically written in columns. It’s easier for the human eye to process information that way.
This redesign genuinely gives me stress and a headache when I open the dashboard. It feels visually overwhelming rather than clear and functional.
Accounting software should prioritise clarity, efficiency, and quick access to information. The previous dashboard achieved this far better than the new one.
It honestly feels like this was designed by someone who doesn’t actually use accounting software day to day.
At the very least, please give users the option to revert to the previous dashboard layout.

Absolutely terrible way to organise the tiles. Its insanely frustrating trying to organise it into the order you want, you place a tile where you want, then when you move a different tile to an unrelated spot the original one moves, and you have to continually fight the randomly moving for 5 minutes while you slowly get it closer to the actual layout you want. worst design ever. this is coming from a software developer. did anyone actually test this? Also this text entry box on this product ideas site is broken and the cursor half goes out of frame while typing when there is more lines of text than the box has room for. Can always rely on Xero to release half finished massively buggy features and UI.

The new layout caused me instant stress! No one needs it to be this messy.

Please provide the option to go back to the old layout. This new layout is very poor.. I've been using it for a month and it's simply woeful compared to the old dashboard. Of course Xero never listens, so I'm back shouting into the void.

If you are so confident your new page is so good. Why not go to the old style and give people the option of going to the new style by option

Definitely need more options to resize every widget as some are now too big and can't see the other widgets that are most important to see first for me without scrolling its visually uncomfortable now. The amount of white space is too much.
It would be helpful to customise information too, I don't need to see that many recently paid invoices to be able to set a date range or set number of invoices would make it better.
Add a widget for quotes on home page, would then be able to see quickly what I have sent -

It feels like every time Xero introduces a new look, the usability becomes more frustrating rather than more intuitive. I often find myself wishing I could revert to the previous version. Despite seeing consistent feedback from users expressing similar concerns, the changes remain permanent, and there doesn’t appear to be an option to switch back.
For many of us, efficiency and familiarity are critical. When the interface changes frequently, it disrupts workflow, slows down daily tasks, and increases unnecessary cognitive load. What worked well before didn’t need reinvention.
If major design updates are necessary, I strongly encourage offering users the option to retain the classic interface, or at least ensuring that changes prioritize usability and workflow stability over visual refreshes.
Please consider the impact these frequent redesigns have on long-term users who rely on Xero every day.
