Homepage - Simplify layout
The beta version of the new Xero layout. updated interface feels overly busy and cluttered, which makes navigation more difficult—particularly for clients who manage multiple bank accounts.
I believe users should have the choice to switch to the new layout when they’re ready, rather than being automatically transitioned.
Additionally, clients pay for Xero to streamline their financial management, not to have advertising pushed at them.
The current design detracts from the user experience and makes it harder to find and complete tasks efficiently.
Hi community, thank you for all the engagement and we can see the growing interest in improvements to help simplify your view of information on the new Homepage and navigate important information and insights with more ease.
Right now, our team have a few pieces of work underway intended to help with some of the pain points that have been raised here these include:
- More options for the sizing of widgets so you can reduce these frames and better position this information on your screen
- More customisation of information within a widget like being able to remove visuals
- Improving the experience of moving widgets when editing the homepage to make it more obvious when dragging and dropping them to different positions on the page
We’ve also roadmapped further changes for later this year, once everyone is on the new experience. I’ll share more updates as we progress.

I couldn't agree more. I previously had two columns for accounts, side by side, and it was much easier to see things. Now they're smaller, four across and I'm finding it really, really difficult to find what I want quickly.
The urge to change things seems to be overtaking the need to make improvements. Changes which do not improve things are unwelcome. Improvements that we've been waiting for for a long time are yet to be implemented. I don't ever see any questions to users about what they'd like to see before changes are made. Not sure if this happens, but feel that it should, even if just for a select group (with broad uses).

Totally agree that the old layout is better, more intuitive and easier to see all the required information in one glance. The ability to stay with the old layout would be much preferred.
I trialed MYOB and Xero and chose Xero due to the user interface being more intuitive (whilst noting that Xero is more expensive for a comparable product) - looks like you're trying to remove that advantage.

Option to toggle the graphs on and off - a waste of space in my case

Please can we have the option to keep the old layout? It is much clearer and simpler. The new interface is far too busy, too big, and too intrusive.
We spent a lot of time trialing Sage, Quickbooks, Xero, and Zoho, and felt that the Xero interface was the simplest, clearest, least confusing for us. Now you are forcing change on us, and we are not happy about this.
To you, Xero is everything, to us it's just a tool. When a tool becomes problematic we replace it.

New homepage has too much unnecessary information. Please allow us to switch and save the old page.

The new layout is absolutely terrible and a shock to work with especially when you are trying to get critical things done and are all of sudden forced to engage with it. I do not like it when Xero changes things indefinitely like this. Why can you not allow us to choose which layout we would like to stay with?

Give people the option to either stay with the current version or switch to the new one if they prefer. If not, people will walk. I personally hate the new layout. I find it hard to navigate and see what I want, and if I am forced into that being the only choice, I will take my custom elsewhere.

I'd like to see more customisation settings made available. Full Widget resizing (not just preset sizes - you shouldn't be forced to scroll in a widget!), fonts, colour palette, dark mode. All of this is easily achievable.
I participate in selected testing as much as possible, when invited by Xero, and the one thing I consistently tell the product team is "customisation is king with any UI".
You MUST let your customers arrange the screens how they want, as much as possible, within the software platform you are providing.
Also, if you are going to change the underpinning platform (as Xero is clearly doing) then you need to recreate the UI (of whatever section you are rolling out) to the same level of utility BEFORE you turn the older setup off (again, looking at you "New" Invoicing, and new Dashboard).
To do anything less, shows disrespect at best and outright disdain at worst...never a good move if you wish to retain people's custom.

"See your business performance at a glance and take action faster, with a more intuitive, insight-rich Xero homepage. "
"70% of customers say the new Xero homepage makes it easier to stay on top of their business.*"
Xero's promo says it all - these changes are driven by CEO's, Accountants, etc who don't do the daily transactions. AND what a small survey - 1191 respondents globally. That's how you fudge the information aye! Sounds more like a bunch of mates being offered a free beer to cheer!
THESE CHANGES ARE USELESS TO THE PEOPLE THAT DO THE DAY-TO-DAY TRANSACTIONS!!
We are not interested in pretty graphs - we want efficient user-friendly software that produces the information, and actually runs the business day to day.

The old layout was so much easier to use and to see quick overview. I understand the need for change, but this change isn't very good. I would go back to the old layout in a heartbeat.

As someone who is neurodivergent, this new design is too complex and I cant cope with it. Was it tested on different types of users before roll-out?
PLEASE keep the old design, this one is too busy and causing me to have panic attacks.

Agree the old layout was better - the new one is messy, confusing and complicated

I absolutely love this! If it can keep that when you go into the bank then revert back to the overall bank account screen, that would be grand. We have 6 bank accounts, so it's lovely to see it stay in this format. AND I work on Xero daily!!

Not a fan of the new layout - it all looks the same. I recently moved all our entities to Xero but I am starting to regret it. Please at least bring back the widget showing which bank the account is with! It takes longer to differentiate when you have 10+ bank accounts with multiple banks, all with similar account names.

Absolutely horrible to look at and use. Spent 5 minutes trying to arrange it how I want - very frustrating as things kept jumping around. Gave up in a rage and went back to the old layout which I shall continue to use .
Once again Xero's 'new and improved' is a shambles and anything but. -

No idea how to submit a new feature request, so doing it hear. But on the homepage, a widget chat/note area that is for business owner and accounting management team to put in quick communication points. Like a mini notebook. Keeping it simple and useful to communicate on topics

So now Xero has switched off the classic dashboard? Without fixing the issues with the new dashboard first? Why does Xero completely disregard what customers actually want? None of the promised fixes above have been implemented and now we can't even revert back to the classic dashboard.

@Kelly Ross - Came here to say this. Thank you for summing up my thoughts in a succinct and professional way. @Xero - PLEASE implement the option to make the new format optional. Our company uses multiple bank accounts and functions within the platform, and with the new layout the home screen is overly cluttered. We do not want sizing customization, we want the old format back.

As someone who is who is neurodivergent (ADHD), this new layout is just too difficult to comprehend and use. I'm struggling with it because it is creating an unnecessary barrier that's keeping me from effectively completing my work. In fact, writing this report is taking up valuable constructive work time now.
There's too much information on the dashboard, which looks too busy and very cluttered, as per the OP's description. The new layout definitely should not be mandatory, in fact it should be scrapped.
