Workpapers - Line for prior year tax paid in Income tax workpaper
The income tax workpaper has the balance sheet workpaper. Unfortunately, you have to add an 'other adjustment' to record the prior year tax payment. It would be very helpful to have at least one line called 'prior year tax paid'.

Workpapers - Delete uploaded documents
When a document is uploaded then removed from a workpaper, it stays in the background when "Attach document" is selected. We need to be able to delete these if it was added by mistake or outdated.

Workpapers Spreadsheet - formatting, cell selection, size of sheet
Can the spreadsheet have more formatting options - like borders so that you can have a top and bottom border on a total cell? Bold type?
Also, it needs more functionality like being able to select the range of cells to sum =sum(select cells using mouse) instead of manually typing in the range.
When you copy and paste from Excel formatting is lost and you cannot add additional lines past where the data pastes if past row 20 (The data itself can paste to additional rows). If data goes to row 19, you cannot insert additional lines past 20 either.

We get this doesn't remove some of the restrictions mentioned in the comments here, but hope you can appreciate we're taking steps to remove friction of having to work with these limitations every day. Thanks.

Workpapers - Display variance amount for updated account balances
Whilst the 'Updated' yellow tag on the Workpaper and specific account is useful, it would be an improvement to also show the difference between the approved workpaper and the new updated account balance after the balances have been refreshed. It will make it very simple to identify the updates needed for the workpaper.

Workpapers - Create groups for Workpapers
Is there a way that we could create a group or a link to all groups within workpapers

Workpapers - Lock Down Preparers from editing Completed Workpapers
Currently when an individual set of workpapers are marked as Completed, they can be then changed by a Preparer without it alerting the reviewer that the Workpaper is now not reviewed for that change.
Once a workpaper is marked as completed, if any change occurs after this, it should be changed to In Progress immediately automatically (similar to how it changes from Not Started to In Progress). This would prevent that Workpaper from being changed without the reviewer being alerted.
I would have deep concerns about knowing all Workpaper integrity has been maintained without this feature or a feature like…

New Workpapers - Ability to Copy & paste
Our firm uses the snipping tool to snip in the source documents/balances. It would be fantastic if you could copy and paste into the new workpapers (without having to save and upload).

Workpapers - icons like Notes/Client Query are too small and colours too inconspicuous
Aside from the fact that they are now miles apart, separated by a massive and unnecessary white wall of nothing.. the icons are too small (relative to the space available) and inconspicuous.
Compare a Query on old workpapers to a Note on new workpapers.
The old flag stands out like a sore thumb (as it should, it's a flag for a reason). Colour/contrast.
The new note has changed the outline of the icon from black to light blue, coloured in the number blue (like the blue circle next to every account).
This is not helpful.

Workpapers - Option to split P&L into specific category workpapers
Profit distribution accounts might have an EXP in the report code (and Xero might force us to use Expenses as the account type in Xero).. but they're not expenses.
Xero has split Revenue, COGS and Expenses across three workpapers.. but still lumped profit distribution accounts in Expenses.

We get how separating categories such as Revenue, COGS and Expenses could better support your practices review process.
This capability is now available in Workpapers Plus which is currently in early access. You can find out more and register your interest through our Xero Central page.
With Workpapers Plus you can create or edit a template, group relevant report codes into the categories your firm uses, and apply the template to new workpaper packs. Existing packs can be refreshed to apply updated mappings - See more on this here.
I'll round back to confirm once Workpapers Plus is fully released to all practices.

New Workpapers - Export to a ZIP file
The export produces a single PDF. It would be preferable if the export could instead provide a ZIP file containing the individual documents.

New Workpapers - Add more statuses.
Currently it defaults to In Progress and I can't seem to change that? At least in Old Workpapers we had On Hold, which we used if there were queries with the client and the job was stalled. And Done, when it was out for signing and waiting for the workpapers to be signed off. It would be really handy to a) be able to customise the Status, and then b) change it.
Also I tried the Notify feature and that didn't update Status to Ready for Review either

Workpapers - enable Enter to activate Attach button after pasting a URL in Attach URL screen
After I paste the URL on the Attach URL screen, I want to click Enter.
My hands are on the keyboard. I don't want to have to move them to the mouse.
In original Workpapers if I pasted URL, tab Type the title and clicked Enter, it would Add link.

Workpapers Tab - Analytical Review
Can we have a spot that we look at all workpapers, instead of having to click into each, this is something that reviewers find frustrating & creates a barrier for older partners (less tech inclined) - like the old ones "Analytical Review", if you don't add a link on "Working Trial Balance",

Workpapers | Income Tax - Reduce column width in L
A little UI matter, I know the column widths will scale depending on the window size; however, when I go into the Income Tax workpaper, the spacing seems quite wide even in a smaller split-screen window. It would be nice if the column widths were narrower

Workpapers - Add amount out by balance to manual journal message
When working in the manual journals, you receive a message that the journal is out of balance. It would be great if this message also advised the amount of the out of balance.

New Workpapers - Include All Files not just those shared by Master Admin
We encountered a problem with New Xero WP wherein Xero Account file wasn't able to upload Xero file of client because it was not shared by Master Admin user of our practice. Wherein this case will not always be applicable because we are holding number of client and we cannot share all access to Master Admin. So we client is just sharing access to Accountant managing his file and tax return. Will it be possible to include all Xero Accounts under Xero HQ or XPM instead of depending on Master Admin access?

Workpapers - Ability to add our practice workpapers each year
Prefer to have one set of workpapers completed in a single software. Within Xero workpapers have ability to attach excel template to specific workpapers for completion eg live stock workpaper, overdrawn current account, hire purchase workpaper, etc.
The most important workpapers have calculations that are required outside of verifying an account balance. Eg those mentioned above.
If unable to have all workpapers in one place, it's easier to stay with current excel pack.10 votesAppreciate you sharing the type of workpapers that will help you get full use out of the new solution, Lyndsay.

Workpapers - Fix Income Tax workpaper that incorrectly shows current year June PAYG installment
Despite the fact I raised this years ago, it was ignored when building the new Workpapers (ironically, this workpaper is one of the few that mimics the original Workpapers layout).
The Income Tax workpaper (attached):
a. correctly shows 4 x current year PAYG Instalments in the 2025 Tax to pay/(refund) section
b. correctly shows the prior year June PAYG Instalment in the Balance sheet income tax reconciliation section
c. incorrectly automatically includes the current year June PAYG Instalment (copied from the section above), in the Balance sheet income tax reconciliation section99.99% of the time, the prior year June…

Workpapers - Manual Journal show full history of edits
The system currently does not display who posted the journal in either XWP or Xero (specific user).
Updates made to journals in Xero are not reflected in the XWP Manual Journal Summary.
Additionally, XWP only allows journals to be voided—there is no option to delete them.
