AU Payroll | Timesheets - Ability to Import Timesheet templates from excel
Could we have the ability to update timesheets each payrun from and excel spreadsheet.
This is so that admin staff can data enter timesheet information without necessarily having access to the payroll system. This is also in the case of Company's who do not want the Xero Me function.
Hi everyone, thanks for all of your support on this idea.
We've been following your comments and recognise that having a streamlined way to get timesheets from a spreadsheet into Xero Payroll would be a huge time saver.
As noted by others in this thread, one option is to explore some of the connected time-tracking apps in the Xero App Store. While we know this isn't a perfect substitute for a direct import feature, it may help bridge the gap in the meantime.
The good news is that we see the value this feature would provide and we want to explore it further. We'll change the status of this idea to Accepted.
We appreciate your patience, we’ll provide any further updates right here.

Any update on when this feature might be added to Xero? The ability to import a .csv file directly into timesheets seems to be a very popular idea!

Good morning,
Just an FYI, I'm also waiting for this adaption to Xero but in the meantime have been using Upsheets to load my .csv into Xero straight into timesheets for the last 9 months since moving from MYOB to Xero. It is working extremely well and I highly recommend it as an interim solution.

Hi David
we would really appreciate a timeline on this, as new xero users we are about to commence a programme to allow us to upload timesheet data , the csv file uploads would be so useful, if its available in the next week or so thats great !!
, if it will be end of this year we will have to follow our intermediate manual/ to xero solutionkind regards

Hi David,
Is there a timeline for introducing timesheet imports? One of my clients uses Shop Timesheets for their zero-hours staff, and the timesheets can already be exported as a CSV file. Being able to import these directly would save a significant amount of time and help reduce errors from manually entering hours.
Kind regards

Hi David
Is there any update on when this function might be available? It would save me a lot of time if I could import a timesheet into Xero rather than having to manually enter the hours.
Thank you.

Great news. I have been manually entering timesheets for years and the ability to upload one spreadsheet for multiple employees would be a massive time saver. An alternative to this or maybe an addition to this would be to have a spreadsheet like page in XERO which essentially allows multiple employees to be added on the one page. If we could then copy and edit this page for the next pay period that would be like having a spreadsheet in XERO. See image

This will be bonus add on, especially when integration fails or business is still deciding on any system updates/upgrades. That way existing timesheet data can be easily export & import into Xero for payroll run same concept like Bank Import for Bank Rec.

We use TimeClockWizard, run a report and export to Excel. This is then entered into another spreadsheet to calculate loadings etc for Casuals, then the totals are manually entered into Excel. Imagine if we can export and upload straight into Xero!!

Would love if Xero could have a built-in template specifically for importing timesheet data directly into the system, This would be a valuable feature for businesses like ours as it has over 522 casual staff who work remote, as well as perm staff who upload to XeroMe. To introduce a built-in functionality to import timesheets directly from a CSV or Excel file without using an external app would be a huge time saver.

100% need this. Our scheduling software can pull classes taught into excel spreadsheet, central source of truth. It would be ideal to then just upload this straight into Xero as bulk timesheet creation.

How frustrating that our subscription costs are to rise again yet the simple feature of uploading timesheets continues to be missing.....Our clients are paying for an overpriced accounting system and then paying for the payroll/financer to manually add timesheets. Its crazy.

We use Square timesheet recording because it has scheduling capability and the cost of staff is instant which makes it useful when working out scheduling costs/sales ratio. Xero is fine but doesn't have that capability. Would love it if it did!!

Need Timesheet import for 50 employees. We track employees time and jobs in another system and can export to a csv sheet.
Currently manually entering multiple times and jobs, for each employee. -

Hello Xero, is there any update on this? It seems this was raised almost 3 years ago. It would be good to know if this is in Xero's roadmap of additions to the product? Majority of other systems that offer payrolling capability have the function of ;xls or .csv upload to the system.
We are manually entering timesheets from our clients system to Xero and as our numbers grow, we are needing the import functionality more and more.
Please can you provide all commenting and the poster an update on this?
Thank you -

the integrations between deputy are good but expensive to run deputy. There is no intergration of timesheets between square and xero. The only solution is uploading excel spreadsheets. Seems a rudimentary request to me.

Our organisation relies on a third party GPS system for creating the data for each employees timesheet, then we have an Enterprise Agreement that enforces other minimum hour rules, so currently we export data from the GPS system integrate it with the EA rules in an excel spreadsheet with a lot of macros and VBA scripts, pretty it up and email directly out of excel via .pdf to each employee (well over 100).
We are moving from MYOB to Xero and I was hoping that after the move we would be able to bring the data from the excel spreadsheet directly into timesheets in Xero so there was no human interference, less chance of mistakes. It would appear this is not the case and I would be back to the same as in MYOB manually entering the total number of hours for the fortnight. Am I right?
I would support any plan to allow importing of excel spreadsheets into Xero payroll. This would assist us immensely.
We have no ability to have employees us an mobile app at all ever.

Of course, XeroMe isn't always the answer! How arrogant to expect employees to add a business app to their personal mobiles. Employees rightfully ask our small business (<20 people) to provide them with a business mobile to use that app. Surprise! Our Cafe can't afford that. We had the option previously, why take it away? If you believe in the XeroMe app then bring the CSV option back and work on improving XeroMe in parallel. Don't try and force your loyal customers into a solution that doesn't fit everyone. BTW XeroMe needs to have Geofencing as an option.

I need this functionality because we use LiveCosts (Project management System) to collect timesheet and to manage project costs etc. We don't want the team or finance re-keying the same data. We need to be able to upload the data seamlessly if possible. The excel functionality will mean that we will implement be able to implement the Xero Payroll Module

Hey Xero,
2022 has been and gone, and we're still asking for basic functionality that should be in the payroll system.
Any eta on when this might happen, I spend 20-30 fixing or adding staff hours in payroll as it is so old fashioned for an interface.
Why do I have to press the "View More" button to see last weeks timesheets, stop doing a java script query and put the filter in the web address bar and things would be so much faster while we wait for an import feature to arrive.

I would also love this function. The Timesheets are a centralised function in our company also. This would save a lot of time and streamline the process for us, also it would ensure greater accuracy.
It would be great to be able to create a csv file that can be uploaded.
