AU Payroll - Set up second auto super authoriser
Having a 2nd person as a Super Authoriser would be helpful when the 1st person goes on leave.
Hey everyone, we appreciate a lot of recent activity and trend in this idea especially with Pay Day Super coming.
As mentioned in my last updated this is an idea our product teams are keeping a close pulse on and we want you to know this is high on our agenda, likely to be picked up later this year.
While we can't provide any commitments as yet, we'll share another update here as soon as there's progress.

This is essential now we have to do super every payroll.
We also need another mechanism for approving other than a phone number. An email or authentication app code is what we need - more secure and can be used when travelling. -

This is 100% necessary and should be implemented yesterday.

I agree that to have a back up authoriser is critical to meeting super obligations. If the authoriser is going on leave they could redelegate that to someone else. But in the case of unplanned events such as losing a phone, illness, serious injury or death, they would make it extremely difficult to meet the obligations.

This is essential for risk management within a small organisation - if our subscriber who is also our authoriser were to become incapacitated for whatever reason our business would not be able to meet its obligations. This needs to be addressed urgently

This is essential for Leave Coverage - please put this at the top of your list!

This is an essential update. After 1 July we will only have 7 days for the Super Payment to reach our employees account. If the designated approver is suddenly unavailable we wont be able to meet the deadline. Serious penalties will apply. This needs to be addressed urgently and needs be in place by 01 July when the rules come into place.

I think it is important to enable more than one user to be able to authorise super. If the authorising person is on leave, unwell or passes away, another person needs to be able to process payments in a timely manner.

I would like to add my two cents to help get this idea across the line. We would like to enable all 4 directors of our business to be able to authorise super payments when payday super starts. Please please action this!!

How Xero have not made the necessary amendements in their back end to allow more than one super authorisor is beyond me. Please listen to the customers who are telling you this is critical in real-world day-to-day management of our businesses. It seems ludicrous that this has not been made a priority. Its April 21 - plenty of time to have this implemented by July 1 seeing you say you already have ion the radar for later in the year anyway...

This is a critical requirement especially in small teams/business for risk management. Not sure why there is only one person for super when there is more than one for lodging Payroll & BAS to the ATO already.

I would have to agree with the users below, this is a critical update and needs to be a priority for July 1. Our farming business has been transitioning to payday super since January to ensure ahead of the rules, and already this is a weekly conversation as multiple people run pays for different business units.
The fact so many people have commented in the last 30 days should demonstrate the need for this functionality.

Currently, if the designated authoriser is unavailable, super payments can be delayed, which creates a real compliance risk—especially with upcoming Payday Super requirements where timing is crucial.
Allowing a second authorised user would ensure payments can still be processed on time and would also enable advisors/bookkeepers to step in and process payments on behalf of clients when needed.

This is critical. Without it the ONE person who can authorize Super is expected to be on hand ALL the time to keep everyone else happy. Not fair on the ONE!!! Also doesn't allow for something happening (such as the ONE being hit bus - if something critical happens to them (which it can) - then there is absolutely no backup.
This is not just CRITICAL it is ESSENTIAL with the changing requirements in the Australian Employment requirements. Pre July 2026.

This appears to be a commonsense approach.

This is critical; without the ability to set up a seconf user this will create nightmare with payday super. There are a million reasons why a single user may not be able to approve via their phone within the required timeframe, for example, travel, illnes,, IT issues and so on. This is NOT just a nice to have in Xero, it is an essential feature required by users from 01 July 2026!

"On 2 May 2023 the Australian Government announced that from 1 July 2026, employers will be required to pay their employees’ superannuation guarantee (SG) at the same time as their salary and wages."
This idea was originally posted before that date.
As a competent, proactive accounting software supplier, Xero has had 3 years to implement this.
The fact that it won't be implemented as part of the 'payday super package' or until after 1 July 2026 reflects Xero's priorities and customer care factor. Please make sure you vote and nominate 'how important this is'

I agree this must be in place in time for pay day super. I'm not sure how Xero can claim to offer a pay day super compliant product due to the high risk involved having only one authoriser. On our other payroll system, it's no issue at all to have multiple authorisers.
I did note some people suggest setting up a fake group account with a group mobile phone number attached. With WFH and multi-state teams, we'd have to look at online SMS solutions. Seems a lot of fuss for something like this?

I think this update needs to be given a priority and updated before the 1st of july 2026 as this will pose huge issues for many of us.

Essential to have more than one authoriser in cases of annual or sick leave and a second person has to do the payroll. Urgent action would be appreciated.

Dear Xero.
Thanks for your handy email from noreply@send.xero.com subject line "Plan ahead for Payday Super with Xero".
I reckon you should add this handy tip from participants of this discussion, which is missing from your checklist: "get a burner phone and register it as the sole registered super payment authoriser"
