Manual Journal - Toggle off cash basis reporting by default
Please change the manual journals layout back to the original permanently and not make me switch this very day. The new version takes up too much space and it is a lot harder to navigate. I suspect whoever designed this does not spend anytime actually entering journals. Another key issue is to have the show journal on cash basis reports unticked as the default. Journals by default are generally not cash movements. Thank you
Hi everyone, appreciate all the engagement here so far. Just to clarify, the ability to set default for the Show manual journals on a cash basis option is already available in Xero.
From the Manual Journals list, you can turn Show manual journals on a cash basis on or off. This sets the default for new journals in that organisation, while individual journals can still be changed when needed.
This feature is currently available in the US, AU and NZ only, with plans to roll it out to other regions soon. You can keep track of the rollout on this idea.

A uk developer advised that the cash reporting toggle by default there & in the US have already been changed… why has it not happened in AU? I am using a 3rd party add on for revenue recognition so i have to edit approx 30+ journals a month. Considering journals ARE NOT cash transactions this is rediculous !!

Please add the following functionality:
1 ability to adjust the column widths as the tax rate code column is much wider than the description column, which just doesn't make sense!
2 ability to toggle to compact view as the description field is so narrow that the text gets wrapped over several rows, causing so much more scrolling. It's much more user friendly to see the maximum number of rows on one screen before having to scroll
3 move the 'attach files' to the top of posted journals to avoid having to scroll through the whole journal to view the files attached. -

Please allow more lines to be displayed in all views - The old compact view was great in this regard. There is not enough field space in narration field to see what you are typing as there is no pop out wrap field.
No ability to make the fields wider and smaller. All this makes data entry so much slower. I find myself quickly swapping back from to old view to get journals done and move on.

What is the obsession with only being able to show 10 lines at a time on a screen. Real users are not using Xero on a phone or tablet where screen real estate is limited. Having to constantly scroll up and down is a time waster.
I saw on a previous comment about this issue that it isn't in Xero's outlook to bring the compact screen back and you shutdown comments. I suggest you give users the choice of the new expanded layout or the previous compact layout.
