    Hi Ali, thanks for putting this forward. We understand the ask to surface ATO error messages more prominently in the return screen, so users can quickly see what needs attention without needing to navigate through logs or other areas of Tax.

    For now, ATO lodgement error messages can be viewed in the History section of the tax returns, with option to expand the error message for more details. These areas provide the full error details, although we appreciate this may involve additional navigation depending on your workflow.

    To be upfront, we don't have any short term plans to change how this is currently displaying in Xero Tax. However, if this would improve your process, please add your vote and share any specific examples of how you’d expect this to work in your day-to-day filing so we can continue to gauge interest.


  2. Profit & Loss reporting MUST include before and after tax totals. The before tax number would also exclude non-deductible expenses such as Tax, IRD penalties, non-Deductible Entertainment. I use a custom section called Tax and Non-Deductilbe Expenses to calculate the after tax total.
    This is incredibly important because clients look at the Profit number and think they a doing better than they actually are, especially if the tax expense number has not been generated which 99% of the time they look at this report.     Hi Dave, thanks for bringing this idea to the community. We understand why having net profit after tax displayed directly within Profit and Loss reports could be useful for preparing financial summaries or reviewing overall business performance.

    The idea is to add a dedicated net profit after tax calculation line within the Profit and Loss report, allowing users to see the final after-tax position without needing to make manual adjustments or calculations.

    We encourage the community to vote on this idea if you’d find this reporting improvement useful.


  3. Ability to enter search criteria for time entries and then make batch edits to the selected entries. Similar to the find and recode function for accounting transactions. Sometime projects change and/or split into multiple projects. Please add the ability to search for time entries by date, employee, project name, task, etc., and returning a list of the time entries that meet that criteria; select the time entries desired and then make bulk edits to the selected items.

    Hi Roger thanks for sharing your idea, and letting us know the changes that matter most for you. We can see how this idea can be helpful for some users. The best way indeed is to describe it as Find and recode for Projects. We've reviewed this idea and moved it to gaining support. Its upto the community now to get behind it. We will continue monitoring it for more traction.

  4. Currently, if there was a capital gain rollover exemption in previous year, it is not updating into the future year's returns automatically. We have to manually enter the worksheet again and again for all the applicable future years.

    Please develop a feature that it automatically rollover the worksheet to future returns. Then, it will be more coinvent for the uses.

  5. The Find and Recode appears not to include Projects so where one wants to set the Project name in the invoice or bill field based on, say, the Tracking category (This is what we need to do) there is no option other than to go through every invoice and bill and set it manually.

  6. Currently the HMRC Agents Services Account is entered for the whole practice including all offices.
    Many practices have separate offices with separate HMRC ASA.
    Xero requires one ASA for the whole practice which is a nightmare for submitting MTD4IT Returns as the access has to be updated depending on which office is filing!

  7. Currently, Xero Tax allows a trust tax return to be completed and lodged even when a beneficiary's TFN has not been entered, despite the TFN being required in certain beneficiary statements and trust reporting schedules.
    It would be helpful if Xero included a validation check that prevents the trust tax return from being finalised or lodged where a beneficiary TFN is mandatory but has not been entered. This could work in the same way as other critical validation errors that must be resolved before lodgement.

  8. Email alerts for failed TIN Matches.
    We have not received any alerts or confirmation emails on 1099 filing status. Having to login and check each client is cumbersome. Being able to see statuses on filing in one place would be great.

  9. New Zealand Inland Revenue Department requires reciepts to be signed by an authorised person. . This does not appear to be possible possible with Xero at present by inserting an electronic or jpeg signature. With a significant number of receipts our charity issues this can only be done manually and a scanned copy sent.

    I would like to request that we keep the publish button on the new GST layout. The new GST Return layout does not have the Publish to Reports function (this has been removed). The Publish Function is an important function for clients, bookkeepers and auditors to access all relevant publish reports in one place.

    Hi team, thanks for continuing to share and support in this idea.

    While our team has continued to consider this idea since our last update, being upfront with you all here we want to share that this isn't in our current roadmap and unlikely to be developed in the near term.

    For this reason, we'll move this to Not in pipeline however should anything change this we'll certainly share an update with you all here.

  11. Currently the MTD reports display the transactions year to date (which is actually what's being filed) but as the year progresses, the volume of transactions will grow and the same transactions will be reviewed repeatedly. It would be better if the MTD quarterly reports show the transactions of that quarter plus any new or adjusted transactions from previous quarters. This could be done by tagging each transaction with either submitted/not submitted on a previous return.

  12. We deal with Overseas companies and subsidiaries, Xero does not have recognise Overseas company number usually starts with FC123456, Xero does no recognise this and create corporation tax return. This is another deficiency of Xero which makes me look at other software.

  13. Tax repayments on UK Tax Returns are automatically offset against the January payment on account, even when it's requested to be sent by cheque or bank transfer. There should be the option for this to be shown separately on the calculation as it will confuse clients when they want to know what is due for payment in January.

  14. UK Self-Assessment Tax Return - reporting dividend information.

    On the 2025/26 self-assessment tax return in the section for employment, if the company is a close company further details need to be added such as whether any dividends were paid during the year and the shareholder's % ownership in the company.

    I note that the help box relating to percentage shareholding of close company refers to "if no dividends were received, enter 0". This doesn't reflect what this section refers to i.e., percentage shareholding. So the help box needs updating.

    Hi Simon 😊 Thanks so much for taking the time to share this and for explaining the issue so clearly. We can see why this is confusing — the help text on the percentage shareholding field refers to dividends, when that field is actually asking for shareholding information.

  15. Whilst there are some templates in Email settings that we can Edit, it would be great if those that have the CIS add-on can also have the option to personalise the messages sent with the month end statements

    🌟 Thanks for sharing this idea — we can see how valuable it would be to have the option to show and recheck the Company Authentication Code during filing. Being able to confirm the code before submission would help reduce errors and would also make the experience more accessible for customers who need to verify what they’ve entered.

  18. We send CIS statements to our SubContractors each month and the tool that does it is very good.

    However we get no visibility of what the Subcontractor sees. Please could you add an option to bcc all the emails to a nominated address.

  19. Please can Xero improve the dashboard notifications regarding VAT returns so that it shows that the VAT return has been submitted. This would avoid me having heart failure when I log in and see the information below! Our VAT is collected by direct debit, so I know if it is submitted, its HMRC direct debit taking its time, and not my mistake!

  20. The Tax summary table in the tax return needs to show the 7th May provisional still owing as seperate to the remainder being due for terminal 7th April. Currently itt is grouped all in terminal meaning it is incorrect as doesnt show clients they need to pay an amount a year earlier

    Hi Gary, thanks for sharing this suggestion. We understand you’re looking for payment summaries and letters to show 7 May Provisional Tax and 7 April Terminal Tax as separate items, rather than combining them.

    Having these tax obligations separated could make it easier to review amounts and communicate payment details to clients during busy compliance periods.
