  1. Please include a "GST Calculation Worksheet" in the Activity Statement report for the new BAS experience based on the same format of the GST Calculation Worksheet which is included with the previous BAS experience.

Appreciate the feedback on the use you found with the previous worksheet.

With the newer BAS while there is no GST calculation worksheet, you can run a Custom Date report to get YTD figures, which can be accessed through the Activity Statement dashboard.

Being open we don't have plans of adding the worksheet to the new BAS report at this stage, however we'll continue to get a sense of interest on this here and share if there's any change.

  2. When a client changes their GST taxable periods (e.g. 2-monthly to 6-monthly filing) they often need to file a return for a non-standard number of months to align with their balance date (e.g. 4-month GST return). It would be nice to be able to change the GST period settings in Xero to allow for the non-standard GST return to be filed directly from Xero.

  3. We would like the ability to transfer a GST refund to another tax payer. It can be done if we file online at IR and we would like Xero's GST return to file automatically with this feature. We have associated groups and have refunds that we want to offset against another tax payers GST to pay.

  4. At the moment I cannot email end of year CIS statements through Xero to contractors like I can for monthly CIS statements.

It would be very helpful to have this facility as I have to download PDF for EACH contractor (which can be very time consuming) and email individually at year end.

This is a requirement as a CIS main contractor, so should be automated and easier for us to do this. Thanks

  5. It would be very useful to be able to amend CIS returns on Xero before final submission (as it is possible with VAT returns).

Thank you for raising this idea about the ability to amend CIS returns before submitting them. As per HMRC requirements, the CIS deduction is an event that is legally tied to the cash transaction of a payment being made. Because of this, the final return is based on these completed cash transactions, and any changes must be made through HMRC's official amendment process. Therefore, the ability to edit the return before submission is outside of Xero's control as we must adhere to the strict requirements set by HMRC for the CIS scheme. While we understand this isn't the answer you were hoping for, we want to be transparent about why this is not something we can build. We will continue to explore any potential solutions that may align with HMRC's future requirements, but for now, we must follow their strict compliance rules ✨

  6. In Australia, users need to be able to manually edit the amount of GST paid on a transaction. This is required because certain transactions (particularly grocery and pharmacy transactions) have a mixture of items, some of which have GST applied, and some that do not. Unfortunately, the receipts for these types of transactions do not indicate which specific items have incurred GST - they just have a total amount of GST paid on that receipt. As such, it would be great if users could just override the total amount of GST paid for those receipts. See attached for an example…

  7. NZ GST - Why does the Late claims tab now show all adjustments made - even those with no GST on them. I only want to see the ones affecting the GST.

  9. VAT Only Transactions - Xero to remove needless restriction to have VAT amount less than line total. This will allow posting zero net with VAT amount to 20%EXP VAT code with a total equal to the VAT total without having to reply on VAT on imports tax code.

Hi community, we don't have any plans to remove change the behaviour here. However, to confirm you can enter a 100% VAT invoice and we have an article that details how to do this. Essentially, you'll enter the invoice using two transaction lines, which when followed will:

    • Show a 100% VAT total on the invoice
    • Have 0.00 effect on the account code balance.

Please note that both lines will show on the invoice PDF.

  10. For the existing Tax & reporting tile on the dashboard, it would be good if the Activity Statement included an indicator for when the next one is ready to be prepared and submitted.

  11. Xero calculates VAT on a line by line basis and rounds up at every instance. This leads to the VAT amount sometimes being more than a few pennies over the top of what it should be.

I propose that Xero calculates VAT to 3 decimal places, which will mostly eliminate this over payment to the VAT man and overcharging our customers. Or it only calculates VAT at the end of the invoice.

  12. Create an out of scope vat code as strictly speaking this is not actually any of the other codes that already exist despite being advised to use them.

  13. VAT 126 - small local authorities can reclaim all VAT. To do so they need to submit a 126 schedule, which is not currently available within Xero. The problem is that the supplier's VAT number cannot be included in transaction reports.
The ability to produce the VAT 126 schedule would make Xero a very good option for the many parish and small town councils.

  16. I am a sole trader. I started using Xero to see how it helped with my taxes. The road has been... rocky. Largely because Xero largely ignores soletraders and their specific needs.

For instance, Xero has no IR3 reports (NZ IRD) set up that we can use.

And we can't have depreciation amounts at the same time as accounts in a report.

We also can't limit which accounts appear in a report.

For me, as a sole trader, I have wound up with personal and business expenses and income mixed in my bank accounts. I have also created personal accounts…

  17. Activity Statement report - currently the activity statements need to be finalised in order and if not then the unfiled amounts option is turned off for good, with no way to change this. The current workaround is to delete all previous statements and then finalise them in order. This means we lose history, and particularly when the client is managing the BAS returns, we need that history to stay. Also there is no way to tell how far back into history the error is occuring. We need a manual override where we can switch on the unfiled amounts, so that…

  18. At the moment Xero allows you to change a CIS invoice etc that effects the CIS return that you have already submitted. It doesn't tell you that it would need to be resubmitted or that your action will effect your CIS report. Would it be possible for Xero to alert you that your action will effect the CIS report already submitted and advise you to resubmit it.

  19. When running the GST Transactions Report, each and every line from each invoice is reported separately, creating a ridiculously large report.
Perhaps there could be one single line per invoice, reporting the total GST for that invoice? Like it used to be?

    Thanks

  20. GST Audit Report Page number selection to also appear at the top of the screen as well as the bottom of the screen. This would be beneficial to the user so they do not have to scroll down to the bottom of the screen to select what page they wish to review/go to. saving time for the end-user.
