Hi everyone, appreciate your continued feedback on new invoicing. As mentioned in my last update we've now added a new Xero Central page for new invoicing.
Along with updates to individual ideas on Xero Product Ideas, this page will become the single source of truth for key feature rollouts including:
- what’s available in new invoicing right now,
- timelines for features and enhancements going live in new invoicing, as well as
- a comparison table between the classic and newer versions of invoicing.
We'll be updating this page regularly.
Relating to some of the more recent feedback there are some existing ideas that may also be of particular interest that you can join, like the ability to see the email the invoice was sent to in the history, or being able to see a timestamp, and reducing clicks and steps.

New invoicing is terrible.
I hate the invoice date selection (just go straight to the calendar!)
The calendar dates don't line up with the days of the week.
You have to keep scrolling down, it used to all fit
The pop ups (contact defaults have been applied to this invoice) are so annoying and block your screen.
If you have a product loaded it takes a few moments to load! Sometimes it doesn't even show up at all.
Overall, a huge fail and Xero should be listening to its customers.
Let Classic Invoicing stay as an option

Pls dont change the invoicing, it works perfectly as it is and the new version is terrble. I've already submitted a case issue around it when I tried it that was hugely disruptive to my workflow. Reading the comments, there are many that agree!

The new invoicing is an ill conceived and unnecessary change. Clearly, the developers in Xero have no comprehension of how companies work or, how much extra time this ridiculous new format consumes.
I have now seen hundred of threads on this subject and clearly, XERO IS NOT LISTENING.
The personnel that post answers are treating the users (the people that pay their wages) like we are all morons.
Perhaps someone could post the CEO's email address and we could all email him or her?
We have already started the process of finding an alternative accounting system. -

I agree, they have gone backwards on this new invoicing, not an upgrade at all, it's horrible and tiring to look at, way too big on the screen.
Are all the developers half blind that they need an oversized version to even be able to see anything and have no understanding about what is required from a bookkeeper/accountants side. They should work in actual accounts for a month and see how useless this new version is compared to the classic version.
Time Xero started listening to their clients on this, not force us to use something that isn't fit for purpose for the majority and not launch it till it actually works, we aren't test subjects for your so called improvements. They obviously don't get that you need trails for things as to who got the invoice, who sent it etc. I have used the history to prove an invoice was sent and who got it, the time it was sent etc when they've said they didn't get it.
Their replies to our issues on this are nothing but obnoxious and condescending in that they are retiring classic no matter what we want. I am no longer going to RECOMMEND XERO as they don't really care anymore as too what their customers are saying and I am looking at and considering other options for a couple of my clients now.

I don't know why companies choose to change things so drastically sometimes. Is there some market you are trying to appeal to that we are not from? The "upgrade" is more like a stripped down version, it is a downgrade. If you want some simple version for people selling at a farmers market on their phone, then give them that option, just don't take away the classic invoicing we have all developed long-seated workflows around.
SIDE NOTE: Congratulations to XEROs original development team, the invoicing is deep and customizable (with the .doc files). I'm sorry your version is being taken away.

This new invoicing is a nightmare of hunt, click, hunt, click over and over. It's terribly slow and exhausting and I hate it so much. It is WORSE than the "classic".

Simon Mortimore commented
It is essential that the classic invoicing is in place from our perspective and from feedback from clients.

I don't understand why you'd implement an 'upgrade' which is a backward step and actually removes current features.
Keep Classic Invoicing, the new invoicing is a backwards step and has less functionality. The look isn't great either.

Agree - so much more cumbersome now. I have no problem with things being updated and refreshed, but not at the expense of crucial features...why would we remove functions? I would think progress means adding functionality, not deleting.

100% agree. New format is hard to read the account code, tracking, takes up too much screen and now takes longer to complete the details.
Go back to the old table format much more efficient and clearer to read.
Having to select a drop down menu to delete a line is annoying, its also always set to add things in bulk in stead of a single line.
It's clear that the people creating the layouts don't do any bookwork for a living.

Classic invoicing over new invoicing had a great feature when adding a part to the invoice from inventory when it came to adding the quantity value it would come up and advise quantity in stock or no stock, if no stock would check if we haven't put the purchase thru or a mistake in stock. Also if this show 1 only would know to reorder, great feature. Yes there are good extras re new version but keep the basic great options, cheers

I just want to add another voice to the campaign to keep the classic invoicing - at least until the new version has the same features and usability. At the moment the new version is just plain horrid.
Xero, you have thousands of skillful and intelligent customers that you could leverage off to create something special for everyone. Use the collective skills and knowledge to find out what users want and not what the software writers think that we want.
By going ahead with this and ignoring these users' pleas you are destined to lose a lot of your customer base. I like Xero but this will be stretching my patience.

No ability to view approved invoices as tax exclusive in new invoicing if they were generated as tax inclusive. The only way to view all approved invoices as tax exclusive is under classic invoicing.

Who's idea was it to have so much white space on the screen? Do you even have UI/UX people at Xero that actually have a clue what they're doing? I'm looking at an invoice with only 4 line items and it practically fills the screen. The numbers are so spread out, it's very difficult to read. I will check again in a couple of months to see if you've actually listened to any these comments before looking to move elsewhere!

Please keep Classic Invoicing. It is so much better than the New Invoicing, in countless ways from usability, to ease of viewing, number of clicks required and time it takes to invoice. New invoicing is horrendous. If we absolutely must have New Invoicing because the dev team needs something to do, fine, but do not retire Classic Invoicing please

I always send my customers a receipt, even for the small ones and I was able to do it with a single mouse-click after recording a payment. I cannot do that any longer. It may not seem a big deal but when you have a bunch of them, it has a cumulative effect.
As someone who works with disabled people when auditing websites, adding in extra mouse clicks is, at best, thoughtless.

The new invoicing is AWFUL!! Absolutely HATE it!!
A few specific gripes:
- The clients address details don't show so this is screaming out for mistake/human error and you cant add the address easily either
- History only shows that the invoice was sent and doesn't show who to. This is a major problem when clients claim invoice was never received and you cant actually check/confirm where it was sent
- Attached files - you are no longer able to scroll through these to check them, but have to open them in separate tabs individually
- The payment icons in the email are obnoxiously large and you have no way of selecting which ones you offer, so currently we have HUGE payment icons displayed for options that we do not offer. This is false advertising.I could go on but I dont believe xero actually cares or would bother reading this.

why did not test your ideas in ‘beta’ and get solid customer feedback before going ‘live’ - there are so many retrograde steps with new invoicing, it should be classed as a launch FAILURE as you’ve managed to annoy more fee paying customers than you have pleased.
