New Invoicing - Keep Classic Invoicing
KEEP THE CLASSIC FORMAT FOR INVOICING

Hi everyone, appreciate your continued feedback on new invoicing. As mentioned in my last update we've now added a new Xero Central page for new invoicing.
Along with updates to individual ideas on Xero Product Ideas, this page will become the single source of truth for key feature rollouts including:
- what’s available in new invoicing right now,
- timelines for features and enhancements going live in new invoicing, as well as
- a comparison table between the classic and newer versions of invoicing.
We'll be updating this page regularly.
Relating to some of the more recent feedback there are some existing ideas that may also be of particular interest that you can join, like the ability to see the email the invoice was sent to in the history, or being able to see a timestamp, and reducing clicks and steps.

I’ve been told by a Xero support specialist that new invoicing is to "build consistency between Xero experiences, allowing us to update and add new features easier than before. These changes are critical in delivering ease of use and value.
We've listened to customer feedback, and have made changes to parts of new invoicing. We’ll continue to do so in order to prioritise future improvements."
I don’t feel Xero design team, that you really have listened to your customer feedback. The overwhelming consensus seems to be to leave classic invoicing as it is, it’s far superior to your new version.
I've tried the new version again (yesterday) it's no better than the last time I tried.
* I copy a previous invoice and get asked if it's for the same organisation and have to click that it is.
Yes it is for the same company, that's why I'm copying it.
Why add an extra click? Surely if I wanted to change the organisation I'm sending the invoice to it's simple enough to do afterwards?*The new page is too wide for a laptop screen. I can't see the descriptions box AND the amount box at the same time. I have to scroll left and right to check them. This is a waste of time and annoying.
*The boxes are so enormous I can't see the tax rate. I can just see a tiny weird sliver of the % sign and then (VAT on income) in huge letters. This is totally unnecessary.
* Trying to add more invoice lines is a mess. I eventually realised I click the enter key to add a new line. It works but it makes the line I'm sitting in much deeper.
I’m already having trouble seeing the whole of my invoice. And yes, I've discovered I can reduce the size of the line by clicking backspace. Lucky me. Yet more time spent pointlessly clicking.
How is this progress or streamlining? The only consistency the new version is building in me is annoyance.
I don’t know who designed the new version but I feel it’s done by people who don’t spend large parts of their month actually creating and sending out invoices. If they did, I suspect they’d realise, the classic version is better. Please leave it.

This new invoicing is terrible. Takes so much longer to create an invoice.
So many more steps to add a tracking category.
Cannot easily drag and drop files, you have to click on the drop down arrow first and then it keeps disappearing.
This a nightmare. -

NEW INVOICING IS really really terrible, very hard to use
and all the feedback is negative, why XERO must be change for the classic one works really well?
I just don't get it
as I customer, I don't need the new one, I just need the classic one

NEW INVOICING IS A FAIL
100% Agree to keep the old one

New invoicing function is not user friendly and not as efficient for processing invoices as Classic invoicing. Still A LOT of work to be done on new invoicing features to make it as user friendly and efficient as Classic format.
It would be great if switching back to Classic format could remain for longer than 24hrs. -

The new invoicing format is TERRIBLE - almost unreadable. Why has Xero ruined a great system that was simple and data entry was easy - work flowed and everyone was happy. I imagine you will lose subscribers after this shambles. Why fix something that wasn't even broken. Why force us to change, why not give us an option, we are the paying customer after all.

Invoices now spread each line over 2 lines - because font is large, and the 'Account' title is invariably long, and the product code and name spreads over too as it shows the code and name in a tiny column.
The font seems too large for these fields, and means I have to scroll down to see the totals/apply available credit when I didn't before.
Please could you consider making the fields bigger and reducing the font size so each line really does only use one line? 3cm per line seems rather excessive.
Many thanks, AnitaUpdate - I have now switched back to Classic to compare a very long invoice. It seems it is mainly the massive font that's causing the invoice to go down off the page and the need to scroll. Please could you consider ways of making 1 line fit on 1 line for visual ease? I think on Classic each line only took between 1-2cm of space on the screen.

There's some functionality missing from new invoicing which should really be there.
1) Inventory levels. Not showing like they used to when you would scroll over the 'qty' column
2) Ability to manually save without closing. Auto save not ideal. -

I also despise the new invoice format. Please allow subscribers to choose, the new format is terrible! We pay enough money to you, so listen to the feedback Xero!

Come on, XERO, do not become dictatorial or like a "mammy state" and force new invoicing on users. Your attitude and contempt for users' needs is deplorable
We, the users, have to use "New Invoicing", and it is far from "fit for purpose".

Notes History no longer includes emails and addressees.
This is a _serious_ retrograde step from old Invoice.
Having the email and the addressees included in the Notes History is essential for establishing the evidence for late payment claims. -

Whoever decided to change the tracking options HAS NEVER .....processed invoices in any capacity.
The classic is soo much better. The options of adding tracking are adding unnecessary steps. I absolutely dislike the new version.
I cannot believe you would think the new version is better. It is awful - layout. Reconsider the tracking option.

Please remove the 'trim' function from the description field when storing this data into the database.
It is ridiculous that make an assumption that the user does not know what they are doing and you adjust what has been entered.
That is not professional.
Along with all of the other issues that have been raised - you cannot force all users to use this 'New Invoice' function with so many know problems.
Please allow the classic invoicing to continue to be used until you have fixed all issues.
This is not an enhancement if you have so many complaints. -

Classic invoicing is so much better and to be honest I am not sure how I am going to be able to use this new invoicing as we take a commission, and it is not giving me that option - so I am kind of panicking. Really annoys me that updates are made from 'inside the company' that are worse off for users. Brings more frustration into everyday life. I always thought Xero was made for small business, so it is simple. I hope you dont start steering away from your original vision

Classic Invoicing is so much better. The new version is so messy and confusing. I am dreading the day Classic is retired

I am trying to vote to keep the classic invoicing. Seems that option has been turned off. Terrible way to treat customers of over 10 years

Please keep the old version. The new is very very slow.

The new invoicing is terrible! I don't understand why Xero is not listening to feedback from clients. One vote to go elsewhere - this is way too time consuming and inefficient
-
Joe Roughton commented
Vote to keep classic please.
I'm genuinely fuming at the developers who don't listen and clearly don't use their own product. They've added a whole bunch of features that, as far as I can tell, no one was calling for and in the process ruined the original functionality.
Going to leave if they persist with this useless update.
