New Invoicing - Add new Tracking option
The ability to add a tracking code from within the 'new invoicing' bills.
Classic invoicing has this ability and it would be excellent to have it in the new invoicing also.
Thank you for your on-going input and attention to the idea here, everyone.
We will keep you updated on change for being able to add new tracking options when using new invoicing here, however if there are other items that you'd like to see developed please do make sure you've joined and are following updates for these too.
I can confirm our team have work underway to improve the line item grid where you enter detail of your invoice. Part of this work includes the ability to add new tracking options without navigating away from the invoice.
For now we'll move this idea to working on it and I'll be back to share when there's more news of this going live for you all.

I completely agree with Robynne's point of view, there is not 1 thing about new Invoicing that makes our life easeir, faster, more efficient or anything. Classic Invoicing has been everything we have needed in professionalism. I am not changing to New Invoicing, if push comes to shove we will be ditching Xero for something that is not just about the money grab but about customers needs.

Not only would it be "excellent to have" in the NEW invoicing format --- it is critical that we do.
We are a Concreting Company, our crews go to 30-40+ different addresses every week. We create a new TRACKING CATEGORY for every job address. The extra time it takes so save the invoice, open Accounting, Advanced, Tracking Categories and then wait while Xero thinks is painful. I can still add a new Tracking Category from within a Bill, but there seems to be a problem doing so now from within Classic Invoicing. I DO NOT want to move to NEW Invoicing - I can't find a single thing I like better about it than Classic. It just looks like someone in marketing or creativity wanted it to look prettier. It's a business tool, for us, your clients, to repeatedly do the same tasks day after day. We don't need it to look prettier, we need it to help us be as efficient as we possible can.
Every few months we are dealing with some new piece of Legislation or some additional Legal Compliance issue or increased Financial Management Reporting requirements. We are so time poor and so stretched as it is, please have your focus be on improving functionality not on appearance ... PLEASE !!!
I have fought with Board Level Management people for decades to keep Xero ... please don't let this be the thing that makes me give up fighting for the ONLY software application I've ever fought so hard for.
Keep introducing additional modules for the pretty stuff, but please keep the core part of Xero 100% focused on functionality.
Cheers

Adding to this request - we'd like the ability to add tracking categories as defaults for items selected from item inventory / Products & Services.
This would really speed up the amount of manual input required to select options on 2 tracking categories for each invoice line; often with 20 lines per invoice. -

Right now it's not possible to add a tracking option from the same page when creating an invoice. It's very clunky and takes you to the advanced tracking page. If like our business you have set up a huge number of previous classes, this is extremely time consuming and cumbersome. Please put back the old system of being able to include a class/tracking number on the same page

@Allison Casey, I do not understand your Issue. Can you please expand your explanation. I can add new tracking categories 'On The Fly' albeit in a separate Tab, but the New Invoice pull down list refreshes. Yes, it still has performance issues, but it works.
If you are creating new categories that often, I wonder if you are using or abusing the software. Its NOT a job costing / Recovery system. -

The new invoice feature no longer supports tracking jobs or categories in an easy or efficient process.
The classic invoice tracking feature is no longer working and adds an error message.
It should be as simple as a few clicks and there should be an unlimited number of tracking items allowed. We use this to track expenses to jobs. This was setup by Xero 10 years ago.
I have submitted many video's to support which due to privacy reasons I am unable to load here however I am now no longer efficiently able to enter invoices with tracking without wasting time.
Please fix the classic invoicing system until you get the new invoice system in good working order.

Can we make it so I can create a tracking catogory whilst creating an invoice - we use the tracking categories for job names. The job name has a number at the begining so that is my invoice number but now I am having to do the invoice and then go back and create the job number, so infuriating.

Tracking codes are one of the most important functions for a business. This needs to be given more importance. We should not be restricted to 100. We have 1000 jobs per year and we use the tracking codes to do P + L's for each job. Quickbooks can do it, no problem, without restrictions. Xero should be able to do it better than Quickbooks

I'm finding it frustrating that now we can't even add an option in the old invoicing system via the invoice line, it just brings up an error. Xero's solution is to go round the 'long way' and enter through Advanced reporting. This is time consuming, and makes for less efficiency in data entry. The new invoicing system is basically the same, and you can't type in your option to bring it up...you have to scroll down to find it. Antiquated methods. Why change something that isn't broken. Frustrated!

In classic invoicing when editing an invoice. when you clicked a tracking category it automatically pulled it from the contact. However, now you have to scroll and select the option.

It would be great if this was automatically added from the default on the contact. On the old invoicing, I can just go down and click click click fill all them in automatically from the default. But now I have click select click select click select so awful!

This is already a feature in the current version and it should not be difficult to include this in the new version.
In the medical industry it is mandatory to include lot and serial numbers on invoices and have the ability to track an item in case of a recall. This is a feature that we must have. If Xero no longer provides it with their new software we will move to a software package that does. Until then we will keep using the old version as long as possible. -

The new invoices does not allow adding of the tracking categories, this is a critical part of our business reporting.

Removing the tracking feature from invoicing makes Xero no longer fit for purpose
It is strongly recommended that you do not remove this feature as legal action against the company to force it not to depracate the current fit for purpose invoicing until this crass failure is remedied and the new invoicing is corrective to have at least as good functionality and usability as the existing
The company’s willful ignorance of its customers’ needs is beyond belief

The ability to add a tracking code from within the 'new invoicing' bills.
Classic invoicing has this ability and so users shouldn't have to ask for current functionality to be carried across to new invoicing. -

Any Update on this option?

It would be great if there is a default tracking code identified on the contact card to auto apply or be a 1 click apply to the invoice (same as current invoicing) but now you have to click on every **** line and select the tracking option from the list.
THINK SMARTER NOT HARDER!!!

EVERYTHING ABOUT NEW INVOICING IS RUBBISH !!!!!
In my industry every bill & every invoice has a job number attached, it is how I find things in seconds. It was so simple to add a job number, copy & paste it down multiple lines. Now I click on it to add it and it takes me to yet another window and then scroll the thousands of job/tracking numbers to the bottom and add it in. So for every invoice a new browser window is opened totally clogging up my system. Adding job/tracking numbers used to take me about 3 seconds in classic. To complete an invoice now takes twice as long - Thanks Xero for creating an absolutely USELESS invoicing format

We have switched to the 'new invoicing' procedure but we don't seem to be able to add a tracking category. This field is also extremely slow in responding.
This process will not make invoicing quicker for us if we are required to enter tracking categories prior to drafting a new invoice as every job with every invoice has a new category linked to it.
We have a 'work-around' by changing the invoice to a manually entered number system which will allow us to still run reports for each job but it is far from ideal. This function would be so important to us in the new invoicing, especially with the ability to have a large number of tracking options. The new option will make our invoice process more tedious and will take longer with the possibility of accounting errors. Please dont change this category or the amount of options it can house.

Why has the new invoicing lost the ability to add a new tracking code? Please add this back in as it saves a lot of time.
