Hi everyone, appreciate your continued feedback on new invoicing. As mentioned in my last update we've now added a new Xero Central page for new invoicing.
Along with updates to individual ideas on Xero Product Ideas, this page will become the single source of truth for key feature rollouts including:
- what’s available in new invoicing right now,
- timelines for features and enhancements going live in new invoicing, as well as
- a comparison table between the classic and newer versions of invoicing.
We'll be updating this page regularly.
Relating to some of the more recent feedback there are some existing ideas that may also be of particular interest that you can join, like the ability to see the email the invoice was sent to in the history, or being able to see a timestamp, and reducing clicks and steps.

How do I update the Attention To name in each invoice without having to open up the contact, click edit contact, go to the address section, update the name, save, go back to the invoice - and repeat for each invoice. The classic invoicing allowed the attention to name to be updated in the invoice screen with one click. Please have this basic function added to new invoicing or keep the classic. What reason is there to take this function away?

can we add calculating fields to new invoicing? Like with classic invoicing.
Also how about making the default payment date the same date as the invoice, or actually being able to see the invoice date when adding a payment.

Kelly, we need to see the changes actually happening in new invoicing to give us any slight confidence that the programme will be fit for purpose come 20th November. At the moment, I can't see anything different, despite the many assurances that Xero are "working on it". Because the programme is so unfriendly, takes so much more time to use & doesn't give the information needed (e.g. who an invoice was emailed to), then we are just changing back to classic invoicing because that works & provides what we need.
Please can we see significant improvements BEFORE NOVEMBER, otherwise we need to have the option to keep using classic invoicing until the new invoicing actually works properly.
As so many others have said, a new programme needs to have the same functionality of the programme it is replacing, not lose it! -

Agree with all the other points. New invoicing is not currently up to standard.
I would refer to the W3C web standards for keyboard operability.
Not being able to tab through fields easily or being forced to use a mouse is not meeting to accessibility standards.
"Principle 2: Operable - User interface components and navigation must be operable."
https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20/#keyboard-operation
2.1.1 Keyboard: All functionality of the content is operable through a keyboard interface without requiring specific timings for individual keystrokes, except where the underlying function requires input that depends on the path of the user's movement and not just the endpoints.

PLEASE - DO NOT RETIRE CLASSIC, the new invoicing is just NOT what WE WANT. We've played around and tried it, and my boss and I both hate it. It's new features are just not what we need and want and we are struggling daily to use it. Classic is OUR preferred system. I understand for some users, the new version is what they like, but why not give US the choice of which to use to best conduct our business? Fedex updated their website, but gives us the option to use the old simple version or the updated one (which I just don't care for) but I love that I can choose what's best for our company. PLEASE understand your USERS and what WE need and want. Sometimes simplicity is better than fancy tools scattered about in no logical order. It is just a mess!
While Xero doesn't "plan" to keep a classic version, perhaps that should be reviewed yet Again! -

New invoicing - Firstly the inventory needs to come back it is very time consuming having to look them up all the time. Also you cant tab through the fields anymore and having to select a date rather than type it in is time consuming. The new invoice system take more time than the old one. you use to be able to tab from the customer name to each field and you can't now you have to click.
Please if you are updating something don't take away what already works. -

New invoicing format is a complete nightmare was the remit of whoever devised the new format to make this as unusable as possible because if it was they've more than excelled!!!
There was nothing wrong with the classic format the new one is just awful you cannot process an invoice that is over the customer credit limit in classic mode you could override this - the font is way too big the layout is poor half the screen is lost with useless headers...
Come on keep the classic version it works the new one definitely doesn't... yet another Xero improvement which makes the system worse....

is you new CEO aware that there are many unhappy customers??
I think you need to listen to the hoards of users, the new invoicing system is not welcome. YOU NEED TO EXTEND/DEFER the closure of Classic invoicing.. -

A few suggestions to keep from Classic Invoicing in the new invoicing:
1. Show stock on hand while creating an invoice- I now need to open Products and Services in another tab to see the stock on hand for each item where in the classic invoicing if you clicked on quantity it would show the stock on hand.
2. Attaching files to invoices, it is an extra step created to click on the attach file at the bottom of the invoice and drag it into that spot- previously you could just drag it to anywhere on the invoice to attach a file.
3. Choosing a due date- classic invoicing brought up the calendar which was far quicker to choose a future date than now clicking on "Choose another date" -

Any changes that are not a step forward is a bad one.
It is a step backwards...with so many hidden faults.
I agree with previous comments. The classic Invoicing has clarity.
As I have expressed the addition of attachments is not just a click and release. Thanks

I really like using xero and find it user friendly and straight forward. I want to retain classic invoicing for its clarity. I have only experienced issues with the new system and am failing to see the benefits of changing at this point in time. The new system does not automatically generate the next sequential invoice number which we rely on daily. I urge you not to retire classic invoicing until the new system can offer everything classic invoicing can already do plus more features.

Hi Xero, we love your software and have been using it for over 10 years. We welcome all the evolution of Xero as so many new features have enhanced the product offering.
However, we do not agree with enforcing your clients to move from Classic to the New invoicing in November when you are removing so many facilities that we rely on a daily basis.
Changing invoice numbers is a key facility we use daily. Currently, we keep invoicing in drafts with enquiry numbers until we have to create a tax point. When we approve (minus an invoice number) Xero prompts to include an invoice number and offers the next sequential invoice number.
This is vital as otherwise invoices will be out of sync with numbers date etc. An accountants nightmare!
Please offer both Classic and New Invoices until all issues have been evolved.
Thanks in advance.

Please keep Classic Invoicing. There is no benefit to the new invoicing, and too many problems which are not being solved. The date - why do you have to select from Today, Tomorrow or pick another date. The date in classic worked perfectly, just clicking on the date you need. I have tried changing invoice numbers to what is needed, then go to save, and it has put in a different invoice number which is not even sequential. Where is insert a line? You can't even cancel out when creating an invoice, you have to delete because a draft has been created. This is in no way an improvement, this is a backward step.

New Invoicing Layout - Can we please keep the old invoicing layout rather than changing on the 20th of November. I have started using the new system to get used to it and it glitches way too much and I have noticed when I change account codes, it doesn't always change and change the tax code when you click update. When you also click the new account, the search bar for your saved accounts doesn't go away so you have to click out of it. The old system doesn't do this, as soon as you click the new account code, the option bar goes away.
Or is there a way to update this so its not as glitchy? -
Beth Fisher commented
It would be really handy to keep classic invoicing as an option, make the new version of invoicing the default for new users so it's still being pushed in the right direction though. I personally have so many glitchy issues with the new invoicing, its meant to run smoother but without a doubt, does not.
At the end of the day, why fix something when its not broken?

Anyone else see some similarities here?
Its just the start I'm sure.

By the end of November, I will have just one client using Xero. The rest will have migrated by then. If Xero ruin billing, as they have ruined invoicing, that last client will be away, too. The only reason they aren't moving yet is because they use a till and don't invoice.
Xero has become over expensive and is no longer competitive. And that was before the "improvements" that made users' lives more difficult Well done, Kelly - you have been the public face of a company gaslighting and ignoring its customer base to the extent that droves professional bookkeepers and accountants are taking their business elsewhere.
Most of my clients are off to Sage (who have really upped their customer service game, and even HAVE A BUTTON TO MARK BILLS AS DISPUTED. How cool is that? Why didn't Xero think of that? Oh. It was suggested years ago by multiple users, but Xero didn't think it was worth doing).
The rest will be with FreeAgent. I have already moved a small business that I run independently of my bookkeeping practice to Freeagent, (which is free with a Mettle, RBS or Nat West account in the UK), thus dodging the massive price increase which Xero informed me about after I had ended that subscription. The process was smooth and very straightforward.
My bookkeeping business accounts will go to Sage, and I already have a transition timetable in place for the other clients not there already. Sage offer me better discounts, and is cheaper, too. Xero Bronze status is very easy to give up. The discount is tiny, and Xero's Practice Directory discriminates against smaller practices. My own is much lower down in the list for "local" accountants and bookkeepers than large accountancy practices several hundred miles away, who just happen to have one or two clients in my area.
I never used Xero payroll, because Moneysoft's Payroll manager is much cheaper and more flexible.
To anyone else thinking that changing software is too daunting, do please look around and see what else is out there. Most of the other software providers will help you manage the change and will cover the cost of "Move My Books" to get your data from Xero into your chosen replacement.
Finally - a huge "Well done!" to Xero. I am not the first previously loyal customer you have alienated. I won't be the last. I do hope you aren't labouring under the delusion that your business is too big to fail, because self-destruct like this in a company is truly frightening.

DO NOT SWITCH OFF CLASSIC INVOICING UNTIL WE ARE HAPPY WITH THE CHANGES
Even though on 30/09/24 Xero said they are working on some of the issues we are ALL complaining about Xero should NOT turn off classic invoicing until we as the END USERS are happy that it is not making us go backwards and costing us all time and money!

@Julia and Fiona - yep, for some of mine there's more bills than invoicing. So sick of them continually changing things and then increasing their price for these so called upgrades that haven't even been requested in some cases but continually ignore ones that have been asked for over a number of years.
Then the fact that they aren't properly tested either before rolling out then we have to work with all the issues while they try and fix them.
I won't use the new invoicing at all at the moment and dread when I do have to use it if it's not fixed.
One of my clients is going to have to go from the old Standard/ new Grow Plan next year to the Ultimate Plan just to use Projects since they have removed it as an add on, then to not even include it in the Comprehensive one at all is just sheer greed.
Talk about money grabbing now - Xero has seriously gone backward from when they first started out to be competitive and now it's like they are starting all over again given we have so many issues with the so called improvements.
Bet none of the developers actually use the system in everyday life, even Xero can't get their due date correct on the Subscription invoices after the update and yet we are all complaining about that and the options to set the due date that should be the same as it was in classic but they won't do anything about that.
