Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
Xero currently fails the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). This means that people with accessibility needs are locked out of being able to use Xero effectively.
https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/quickref/
A quick scroll through shows that Xero fails a number of criteria, such as:
- 2.1 Keyboard Accessible (for example, on the new bills page, tabbing through the page includes tabbing through the search bar, and when you tab through the date fields this causes today's date to be included as a filter, which cannot be immediately undone using the keyboard without tabbing through to another field)
- 2.4.7 Focus visible (if you tab through the page, can you see what you've tabbed to? Xero fails on the invoices page)
- 1.4.12 Text spacing (I'd really like to reduce the spacing between columns in tables, to increase the readability, but I can't figure out how. Compact view helps with the distance between lines, but not enough, and I can't figure out how to change that)
- 1.4.8 Visual presentation (the ability to switch between compact and regular view is not available on all pages)I can't say that the WCAG cover all situations, and there's certainly a bunch of best practices with regards to presentation that aren't specified in the Guidelines, but they are the bare minimum to ensure Xero is not in breach of the Disability Discrimination Act and to ensure that people like me can use the product they're paying for.

AU Payroll: Ability to archive or delete old timesheets
I want to be able to archive or delete old, previously processed timesheets. In the timesheets section, processed timesheets from 2018 continually rise to the top and it is annoying and time consuming to always change the sorting order to find the most recent, or filter via a start date. This is all annoying. I want to remove old or previously processed timesheets from this list, or at the very least, have recent timesheets/those waiting to be processed automatically listed at the top.

Create supplier prepayment from bill
Suggest being able to turn a bill to pay directly into a prepayment or better yet a part prepayment.
The Bills to Pay function doesn't work well (at all?) for prepayments - if a draft bill is received there is no workflow to set it as a prepayment recognised by Xero (although you can set the account to debit as a prepayment). Suggest adding "Record as prepayment" to the bill options drop down.
Even better would be the functionality to record the bill as a part prepayment, many of our bills are for annual service delivery, therefore the bill will always have two parts - the expense for the current period and the prepayment for the next.
Extra points for including the ability to calculate the divison between periods!

10 votesHi Matthew and Anthony, appreciate perhaps not as streamlined as you'd like here there is the ability to apply a prepayment to a bill.
In Xero, you would enter the bill to recognise the expense, payment itself would generally be recognised through the bank account when reconciling which is where you can create a prepayment and then apply the credit to the bill.
Alternatively, if you'd like to do this from the bills screen, you could use the create icon (+) in the top blue navigation and select Spend Money when redirected you'll want to switch the 'Spent as' to Prepayment from Direct Payment.

Bills - Option to show lines as Tax Inclusive
When entering bills as "Tax Inclusive" line items, Xero automatically changes it to "Tax exclusive" line items.
When trying to edit the bill to show tax inclusive line items, it again auto reverts to tax exclusive per line item.
I am requesting Xero to allow for having a choice between Tax Inclusive Bill line items, as well as Tax Exclusive. Why? This is because it is easier to reconcile due to the payment being tax inclusive.53 votes -
UK Payroll - Don't update previous payslips when employee details change
Old payslips should retain the correct postal address for the employee for that time period. Don't update the previous payslips, just move forward with the new address for new payslips. People use their payslips for various different reasons, and tracking/validating their address history etc can be one of them!

AU Payroll - Add birthday notifications for staff
Could we include a notification when a staff member has a birthday? This has multiple benefits including allowing us to check if their award salary or benefits need to change and also be able to congratulate them on their birthday. Surely it wouldn't be a huge change to make but would be a unique and helpful change for many SME as I currently need to create a new Google calendar for staff birthdays, creating additional work especially when we have 50+ staff and low retention in hospitality. Thank you.
92 votesAppreciate the interest through the idea, but want to be open that we don't have any development planned for adding reminders or notification of an employees birth date atm.
I see there are some supporters from NZ and UK in the idea here and wanted to point you across to these specific ideas for each region that I'd encourage adding your support for - Each version of Xero Payroll has been developed specifically for the that regions tax and reporting obligations and this would need to be developed for each version separately. Thanks

AU Payroll | Add opening balance for Working Holiday Maker tax rate
Please add an opening balance for the Working Holiday Maker tax rate
When a Working Holiday Maker (WHM) reaches the earning threshold of $45000 they must be taxed 32.5% (instead of 15% prior to $45K per financial year). When an employee is set up in Xero as a WHM this tax calculation is automatic as along as the full $45K was earned with the current employer. If the employee has earned $45K prior to starting with a new employer Xero will calculate the WHM tax as 15% instead of 32.5% and there is no option to set an opening balance. I can increase the amount of tax withheld each pay period (on the Taxes tab), however since this employee earns bonuses of varying amounts, the only real option is to manually adjust the tax each pay run.

Payment Services - Option to add Zip as a 'Buy Now, Pay Later' payment service
It would be great if Zip could be categorised correctly as a "Buy Now, Pay Later" service, rather than "Credit Card" payment service. This would allow us to integrate it with xero invoices along with Stripe for example. Currently they come up in the same category so we can only choose one. Maybe it's time to add a buy now, pay later category for after pay etc as well.

Invoice Report - Including account, date paid and method of payment
I want a payment report of invoice payments made into my bank account, the report would show date of payment, method of payment and actual .
35 votesHi Donald, I've updated the title of your idea to make this simpler for others that are interested to find.
Though we don't have a report that'll show the payment method atm, you could run the Receivable or Payable Invoice Detail reports to view much of this information.
Once you've customised the report as you like, you can save as Custom to easily access that view anytime.

Contacts - Display the "included in emails" tag for additional contacts with no name
Currently this badge is displayed for the additional people only when there's at least a first name associated with them, but often our "additional people" are only email addresses with no first/last names, an the only way to see whether the "included in emails" option has been enabled for them is to enter two nested edit modes (4 clicks total). This is really unnecessary. Just display the badge if the box has been checked!

Invoicing - Allow delivery address to be synced via API invoice creation
This is a real issue where you have a customer with multiple delivery addresses. Here is a typical scenario.
1) Customer has one invoice address and 3 different shops.
2) The online ordering system syncs across the customer contact details, one invoice address and 3 delivery addresses (here is the first problem, Xero will only use Shop 3 for the deliver address as it is the last one synced across).
3) The online system creates an order for for invoicing for a delivery to Shop 2 and syncs it across.
4) Xero creates the order but shows the delivery address as Shop 3 (because that was the last delivery address synced across).
5) Customer thinks the delivery has been sent to the wrong shop and refuses to pay the invoice!
What would be perfect would be the ability for the invoicing api to accept a delivery address sent by the online site and show THIS as the delivery address on the invoice along with the actual invoice address.

Payroll: User Roles - Options to give permission to approve/decline leave and read only Payroll reports.
Ability to have more flexible permission in Xero Payroll, especially for read only Payroll reports and to give other users permission to approve/decline leave requests.
Purpose: To have more options and flexibility in assigning users to Xero Payroll.
129 votesHi community, we understand user roles and the permissions a user has across an organisation is important to many businesses. Right now, as some may have seen across other ideas I've updated - we have some research underway to help us better understand where and how we might best tackle the most predominant needs in roles.
To make sure we're getting a good scope across our products - we'd like to offer those interested in roles & permissions for payroll to join the research here. If you'd like to be a part of this, please fill in this short form here ✍️and our team will be in touch over the coming weeks. 🙂
Just to set the expectation, the research and discovery for this project is likely to take a few months. Once outcomes are formed from the research, I'll be able to return and share what the next steps look like. Thanks!

Reporting - Add Notes to Statement of Cash Flows
Add Notes reference for Statement of Cash Flows for totals.
When preparing financial statements it is not possible to add a Notes reference for total lines. This is extremely frustrating as we normally have a note reconciling the net operating cash flows to the net operating profit. This requires PDF correction after exporting from Xero. Please add functionality to add a Notes reference for total lines in financial statements.

Contacts - Send invoices and statements through WhatsApp
Hi not sure if it is available, but can you add WhatsApp to clients? It would be great if one can email and WhatsApp client invoices and statements, directly from the online portal.

Reporting | Financial statements - Adjust formatting
Please consider adding more customisable options for the financial statements as they do not look professional when compared with Sage Handisoft reports (for instance).
Just to start off, there should be an option to remove the horizontal lines across the page on each account and heading, change indentation, font & in particular font size. The font size is so small it should be close to double that!
27 votesThanks for your valued feedback here everyone. Considering elements mentioned we wanted to highlight Report styles which are available to Xero Partners through Reports in Xero HQ.
With Report styles Partners can now set logos, change the colour of report titles and size of the font in reports, across client organisations.
We appreciate there are other improvements mentioned that you'd like to see capabilities expanded too and will continue to track the interest and share any more improvements of this with you all.
Connect with your Xero advisor, or find one that can best help with your business needs here.

Invoice templates - Ability to show project
Requested that Xero pull the project names to put on invoices. The information is already entered, would be a big time saver to auto-populated to project name on an invoice rather than manually typing it in

Sales invoices - Download all invoices
To be able to bulk download invoices for a client or multiple clients.
With also the ability to filter to all invoices, paid invoices and not paid invoices.
14 votesHi Amy, could you give a bit more detail on what this would help you do, or is there a specific format you'd be looking to download invoices in?
Currently, you can export invoices from Xero and would be able to filter these in exported CSV file, or can do a search to do this before exporting - More on this here

Reports - Remove underscores between words on downloaded PDF reports
Hi team
It would be great if you could replace the underscores with spaces when downloading PDF reports from Xero - currently we have to tidy this up before sending reports to clients which takes unnecessary time.4 votes
