  1. The Net profit amount that pulls through to Xero Workpapers treats trust distributions to beneficiaries as expenses. They should be excluded (as it does with Income Tax Expense and Dividends Paid).

  2. Reviewing Workpapers - when reviewing the file I have found two problems - first - when scrolling through the various workpapers using the arrow keys in the top right- it is including ones that are essentially excluded from needing to be completed - i.e. the shaded out ones on the front. 2nd - I have to click into each attachment - rather than using an arrown key to see each seperate attachment like we do at the moment.

  3. The system currently does not display who posted the journal in either XWP or Xero (specific user).

    Updates made to journals in Xero are not reflected in the XWP Manual Journal Summary.

    Additionally, XWP only allows journals to be voided—there is no option to delete them.

  4. Journals (General Journals, Manual Journals) are inherently an ACCRUALS transaction. Not cash.

    Manual Journals can't be recorded against a bank account in Xero.

    Manual Journals should NOT be Cash Basis by default. They should be Accruals ONLY, by default. Xero should give you the OPTION to include your Manual Journals on cash based reports.

  5. When preparing monthly or quarterly workpapers, we would like to be able to select the comparison period as last month, quarter or end of last financial year. Not just the same period last year.

    As we continue to develop this new product we're keeping a keen eye on the interest ideas in this forum are building and I'll let you know if there are any changes planned for this, here.

  6. I have been told (Support ref CX0017912960) that when we create and use WP attached to an organisation, if the client removes our access to the Organisation, we will lose our access to the Workpapers for that client.
    Workpapers are a Practice Tool and an important record of work done that we need to retain FOR OUR OWN RECORDS for regulatory and professional reasons. They do not belong to the client.
    The practice needs to have full control of access and retention of these records. Legally Workpapers are the property of the practice.

  7. Can other quality assurance requirements be included as part of the standard workpapers - for example independence sign off ?
    This will save us having to address this separately or add it in ourselves in workpaper packs etc

    We're grateful for your feedback on the new Workpapers, Stacey. It's really good to get an understanding of improvements that w0oulkd be most useful.

    For now, we'll get a sense of the interest from others using this product here and I'll share if there are any updates.

  8. Can more users be allowed to view the new Xero Workpapers other than the usual 3 users?

    Requiring an Admin staff member to kick people off or add people on to have a quick look at the Xero workpapers is quite tedious, so having an option to add a user as "Read only" and not occupy a preparer, reviewer or final reviewer slot could be handy.

  9. On the FA workpaper - show what date depreciation has been run up to, so can ensure it is complete for the period under review, which is not always clear from FA rec report or Depn schedule report. As a reviewer if not need to go to Xero to check.

    Thanks for sharing this idea and highlighting how helpful clear visibility of the depreciation date would be for Workpapers review. We are still working on the new Workpapers experience and this idea will help us gauge interest. Please share it with others who’d benefit so they can add their support and use cases here as well.

  10. It would be good to visibly show the period Xero is locked up to. As a reviewer I want to know Xero is left locked without leaving workpapers to check.

  11. The tax return doesn't allow for decimals.

    When people use decimals on an income tax rec (before/up to taxable income), we end up with rounding issues and incorrect tax expense calculation.

    Taxable income must be a round number, all of the inputs into the tax return to calculate taxable income must also be a round number, therefore it makes most sense to make the workpaper only allow round numbers (up until the point decimals are allowed in the tax return, which is when the tax expense is calculated).

  12. Ability to apply a change of Reviewer to multiple pages in the Workpaper pack.

    We have a pool of reviewers so do not know at the time a Workpaper pack is created who is going to review the job. A "generic" reviewer is selected on initial set up.
    When a reviewer picks up the job they change the settings to their name. This does not automatically update each page in the workpaper so you then have to change it for each tab you go into. Would be great to have the option of bulk updating all the pages at once.

  13. More clicks. I don't want more clicks.

    I understand security.. but if someone has already hacked my Xero account, gone to Workpapers, attached a URL to an account - I have bigger security issues than the fact I will be clicking a link within my (supposedly secure) Xero account!!!

    Our URLs are to our SharePoint. I do not want to confirm I want to proceed. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

  14. Lol. I just noticed that the checkbox in a Workpaper says Mark Accounts as Completed.

    How unintuitive is that?

    On the All Workpapers screen the checkbox is for selecting (and performing functions). This makes sense, even if it is ridiculous the million steps you need to take to deactivate a workpaper.

    Why would you have the icon exactly the same but have the behaviour completely different?

    Why wouldn't you put a heading above the checkbox to explain what it is for? (If it's for marking the account as completed)

    Why can't we see that the accounts in that workpaper are…

  15. In the create journal window of the new workpapers, it would save a lot of time if you had the ability to set up new accounts there rather than back and forth into the Xero ledger. Also it would be nice if the chart of accounts updated with changes from blue Xero when posting journals in the new workpapers.

  16. I have been testing the company tax return import. I have accounts with negative balances - the bank overdraft for example, doesn't get posted to the current liabilities section of the tax return as a positive amount. It is posted as a negative.

    I can see that the integration has the ability to exclude from integration but this is counter-intuitive to reducing manual data entry. The ability to post as a positive figure is available in the Xero import function.

  18. It was a very useful feature in Classic workpapers for the journals that were created to be included in the workpapers pack that was exported. We have found that journals aren't exported in New Workpapers. Including this is key to ensure we have an accurate record of changes made to a file by the accountant, especially if the client leaves and we no longer have access to the records.

  20. There is no ability to link documents/URLs to lines on the Income Tax workpaper.

    We need that ability so we aren't scrolling down looking for the supporting documents...
