AU Payroll - Option for Auto Super approval code sent to email instead of phone
AU Payroll - Email auto super code to email address instead of mobile number for overseas travelers who don't always have access to mobile phone
Hi everyone, we just wanted to provide a quick update on this one as the upcoming payday super changes will be top of everyone's minds.
The current approval step is important for both cash flow management and security and the community has also suggested a few different ideas on how to approach this:
- Setting up multiple auto super authorisers - currently in discovery
- Super Payment Authorisation via Xero Verify - currently gaining support
If either of these ideas reflects what’d work best for you, please add your vote, to help us get a clearer understanding what matters most to our community.
When we’re through the thick of EOY and initial payday super is rolled out, our product team will circle back around to these ideas to review.

Not everyone is able to receive an sms code to approve super batches, particularly if overseas or in remote areas. Having the option to send the code to an email address would solve this for many clients.

This would definitely be helpful with the start of Payday Super. I have one client in particular who is going to really struggle with the SMS codes for approval as he will be overseas for an extended period of time.
Please bring in the option of email or SMS codes. -

This would be great help, it would remove me from having to be the sole authoriser for over 100 superannuation payments that will now have to be done each week. I can have the other Bookkeepers in the team also processing wages and super for clients.

Please have an option to send an email OR SMS message with a code when processing superannuation payments. I don't always have mobile reception

I travel a lot, sometimes in areas where I cannot access SMS. This means that I cannot get verification codes for, say, superannuation approvals. An example is when I have access to WiFi, but my mobile provider does not partner with a local cellphone provider.
Other applications provide options, such as sending a code to email, using Authenticator, or even using their app to approve payments or receive a code.
Xero has only one option, SMS. Please do better. -

With payday super being introduced on 1 July 2026, the super approval process needs to be more flexible with more ways to approve
