Assign repeating invoice to a project. I am opening this up again as this is crucial. Given that a project can manually be assigned to an invoice, why can't this be done for repeating invoices. The point of a repeating invoice is so I don't manually need to generate and send this every month. As a part time employee, I am not always working on the day some of our invoices need to go out to clients to ensure they are processed by them in their next pay run. The idea of a project is to see all the income and expenses - without the automatically generated invoices, the project figures are inaccurate.

Please reconsider the decision in July 2025 to not move forward with this. This is crucial!

b/c this isn't a feature, i will not be using Projects to track my over 30 clients time metrics. This is crazy. why are repeating invoices so hard for Xero to figure out? Same goes with 1 time credits. I have to literally wait for an invoice to post to a client b4 I apply a credit to it. or apply it & set a reminder to remove it in 30 days. WOW.

If I raise a one-off invoice, there's a column to assign it to a project. Why on Earth is that option/column not there for a repeating invoice?

Seems I'm not the only one to think so... This is easier in MYOB.

This is a no-brainer! Why force people to manually attach recurring expenses and invoices to a Project? It's such a waste of labour, and introduces the likelihood of human error so that items get missed.

The whole point of automated systems and software is to eliminate that kind of task.

Having this would be a game changer. Please make this happen!

3 years of asking for a rather important feature and not so much as an acknowledgement from Xero. I suggest everyone who's waiting on this opens a support ticket. Perhaps that will move things along.

This is needed, any time frames on a resolve to Project tagging on recurring invoices?

At the moment we have to have a staff member spend half an hour to an hour each month to assign the automatically repeating and sent invoices to the projects (when the repeating invoices are for the same ongoing project, monthly or quarterly retainers). It's a timecost but it also introduces user error. Please add this feature as soon as possible because it would make the Project Summaries usuable without someone going in and assigning the repeating retainer invoices (75% of our client base) to the ongoing Projects that the invoices are for. Add to this that there's no workaround or corresponding feature we could do ourselves using Xero Developer, so we're completely dependent on you! Thank you 😊

The purpose of repeating invoices is to save time and improve efficiency. To then have to go back to each invoice to assign it to a project wastes time and reduces efficiency so please make it possible to assign projects to repeating invoices.

It's truly baffling how such a critical feature was overlooked during the redevelopment of the new Invoice format in Xero. How is it possible that something as essential as the ability to allocate a project job to an invoice wasn’t prioritised? Do you have any idea how time-consuming it is to manually go through each invoice, edit it, allocate the job, save it, and repeat the process just to ensure the invoice shows up correctly in the Project reports? It's a tedious and inefficient task that completely disrupts workflow—especially when you're trying to get an accurate view of income for the month. How can such a fundamental part of the system have been missed in the planning stages? It’s beyond frustrating to see something so crucial overlooked in the face of all the new development work.

I can't believe this hasn't been implemented yet. As a small business owner that does my own admin, having to do this manually is a major drawback.

This would be a huge time saver to have for both repeating bills and repeating invoices.

This is a must have, Nearly all our invoices are for repeating VoIP Phone system subscriptions.

The same request goes for importing supplier bills via a csv, you should have a column for projects.

It's staggering that you don't already have this feature. Its a couple of days work per month to manually apply.

We have just moved over from Kashflow which does this. Its SO bad we may have to move back.

This is definitely a HUGE gap in the functionality of Xero projects!!!

We desperately need the ability to assign EACH LINE ITEM TO A DIFFERENT XERO PROJECT in Repeating Invoices. It's so time consuming right now to manually assign these after the invoice is generated.

Getting rid of the admin burden of having to do this manually would be a huge benefit
