Manual Journals - Assign Contact name to journal
The ability to assign contact in manual journals.
Purpose: To enable to track journal entries with contact name
Hi team, we're pleased to share that this work is now underway.
Our intention is to allow you to associate a contact per line in a manual journal.
We appreciate there is a lot of interest in progress for this feature and I'll be back to share as soon as we have more news to update you on, here.

This is almost the only non-existing feature holding us back from converting other companies in the group to Xero. This is absolutely critical!

This is such a critical feature I'm surprised doesn't exist. When we're assessing spend with a particular supplier we want to include accruals and prepayments. Currently involves a lot of manual intervention to allocate a contact to an accrual/prepayment journal.
Considering switching to another platform if this doesn't get fixed soon. -

In order for us to offset the amount we are owed by a debtor, who is also a creditor, we are in desperate need of this functionality

Be able to link a contact to a manual journal and show on the contacts activity as well as on output transaction reports in orde r to get toal for a single contact in a single report so when analysing chart of account balance can separate all transactions by contact. My example was I had some non-cash interest earned to manual journal in, but this will not come out in a report as the journal type is not connected to the corresponding contact the interest relates to.
Can this be a feature update?

This feature is critical enough for my team that we are considering switching to QBO in order to obtain it.

This would solve two problems for us:
1 - ability to report out accrued and prepaid expenses by contact/vendor. Right now, there is no easy way to see what a department has spent on the IncomeStatement for each vendor when the original transaction is posted to a prepaid account.
2 - use Xero as a single source of truth for all payroll across internal employees (Paychex) and contractors. Paychex posts a JE for each run, but without contact level tracking, I can't see what we've paid these employees in Xero directly. -

I can't believe its 2023 and this hasn't been added. I am recommending QBO for everyone. Too many random missing features like this to be used for any company that wants to do reporting.

Add a section to manual journals so that you can make adjustments for a specific vendor (customer).
For example, our customer signed a contract for subscription for 12 months. I show deffered revenue and then every month I transfer part of this deferred revenue to revenue. It is very difficult to track whether all deferred revenue has been converted into revenue if it is not possible to keep records of revenue by counterparties, especially if multi-currency accounting. -

Please could this feature be added as its important to assign it to a specific contact as it will create a credit and will not show they are owing.

To add to this - we have just spent 3 hours debugging this to find out why the investment accounts don't add up to work out that the manual journal doesn't have the contact assigned. Please can you add this

I agree, I had a case where a client had posted an invoice payment to the wrong customer, and rather than create a simple Journal against the debtors to correct the customer payment we had to create a credit note for the client that needed a payment allocated and then an invoice to put the other customer back as owing?
How about when we defer income or post bad debt and want to correct the debtors to reflect these changes but we cannot adj the individual customer?
This is something Quickbooks provide as standard and I was very shocked to find out that Xero doesn't allow the same.
