GST Audit beta - Exchange Rate for GST Purposes
We are based in Singapore. Your system does not cater very well for GST when the functional currency is not SGD.
My Xero is USD-based, hence we have to use only GST Audit Beta.
But we have to key in "Exchange Rate for GST Purposes" into our system so that when reporting to Singapore Tax authority, we have to report in SGD. There is no way to key this in, and it means keeping a seperate excel file, doubling our work. This rate is given by each supplier on their bill, and can change on daily basis. So we need…6 votes -
GST Audit (Singapore) - Select Tax code display
Suggestions to improve the reporting of GST Audit Beta
Allow us to select which Tax Codes to display in report (default All)
Show the tax code in each row rather than as a report subheader. Useful when there are lots of records for some tax codes
I noticed that we can select Reference field for the columns, but not Invoice No. If the entry's Ref field is blank, the report shows the Invoice No. So this is misrepresenting the report, and showing inaccurate results as no one analysing the report would know if they are seeing the Ref no or…
3 votesAppreciate the feedback here, community. I want to assure you product ideas in the forums here are a primary source for our product teams when planning development and diving deeper into improving the experience for our customers when using Xero.
I can understand it may feel that things aren't moving as quickly on ideas you'd like to see developed however you can filter ideas by Working on it to get a sense of ideas from our community that are being worked on, or Delivered for ideas we have released solutions for.
It really helps having only 1 idea per post in the forums here so others in community understand what they're adding their vote for, and our product teams to get a sense of the interest from our customers in a specific feature.
I've split your idea here to a separate one for being able to view the tax code…

CIS - Ability to add CIS Codes
Have the option to create nominal codes and assign them to CIS returns to allow for more granular review of costs. E.g. Bricklayer expense, Plumber expense etc.
58 votesHi everyone, thanks for your feedback on this idea. We appreciate you sharing how important more granular CIS tracking is for your businesses. Some of you have mentioned that you currently use tracking categories to achieve the breakdown required, we understand however this may be suitable for everyone.
After review, we're updating this idea to Not in the pipeline, meaning our product team has considered it but it's not on our foreseeable roadmap. We know this isn't the update you were hoping for, and the idea will remain open for votes so we can continue to gauge community interest.

VAT Return - Next and Previous when reviewing invoices
When reviewing a VAT return documents, the ability to see the invoice without having to go in to bills to pay to find the invoice and review it was great. How about adding a next and previous button to the top of the screen when you left click on an invoice within the VAT return?
At the moment we have to click the x in the top right corner and then left click on the next invoice to review. when review large VAT return with many transactions you can get lost and end up clicking in to an invoice you…

NZ GST - Increase size of the current period button
Rather than the very small, blue writing to preview a current GST period, can this please be bigger and a button.
A lot of clients do not know this feature is in the GST Return area as its too small to find easily and previewing the current return is useful for businesses to know what their current result is looking like, especially if they are using this feature for cashflow/GST saving.1 vote -
VAT returns - Filter 'Transaction by VAT' and 'Transactions by tax rate' pages
I would really like to see something similar to the sorting function on the Account Transactions report applied to the Transaction by VAT box and Transactions by tax rate pages on the VAT returns. This would make them so much easier to review, rather than exporting them to excel.

VAT - Automatically calculate VAT using the Marginal Scheme
Ability to automatically calculate VAT using the marginal scheme.
Purpose: To easily show correct VAT amounts when VAT is only charged on the Margin between Purchase price and Selling Price.
62 votesHi team, thanks for the support and interest this idea has gained. Though we appreciate the value auto calculating VAT using the marginal scheme would be for those that need it, we want to be transparent here that this isn't in our roadmap.
Currently, it's possible to adjust VAT on invoices and credit notes - If you set the transaction to Amounts are 'Tax exclusive' and make sure the Tax Amount column is shown you'll be able to click into this field and edit the amount as needed for each line of your invoice - we have more detail on this in Xero Central.

Activity Statements - Ability to generate comparatives for BAS and IAS
Are you able to generate comparatives button on the BAS's and IAS's for the previous period and the same period last year, like there is for tax returns? This would be a handy tool to use when reviewing.

Xero Tax - Tax return feature for SMEs
A feature for businesses to submit their own tax returns would be great. I already prepare and submit my own GST returns via Xero and it's really easy - just the push of a button. A similar feature to enable me to prepare and submit my own tax return, without needing to go through an accountant, would be really good as the technology is now here for us to not need expert advice so much in this area now and this will only increase with the rise of AI.

VAT - Ability to track late claims for Non-MTD filing orgs
Track late claims on VAT returns submitted in Xero but not filed direct to HMRC through MTD.
This is needed in order for VAT groups to be able to prepare returns in non-submitting companies which can then be consolidated.
The only alternative if the VAT group stays on Xero is to run journal reports and manually find late claims, in all non-submitting entities in a VAT group, which is a very manual process.

VAT - Show Unreconciled Statement Lines for a VAT period when completing a VAT return
A note of outstanding, unreconciled statement lines before completing a VAT return.
Currently you click review and can see the VAT return; however, it would be useful to have a box that would flag if there any unreconciled transactions within the VAT period.
This would help to ensure no transactions are missed when completing a VAT return.

Dashboard - Show Current/Actual VAT liability
Similar to other "snapshots" available on the Dashboard, for any VAT registered business it is important to know liabilities at the click of a button. Please can Xero support look into an "add-on" for VAT liability total shown on the dashboard
45 votesHi community, we recognise it's been some time since our last update on this idea and apologise for the delay in coming back here.
After our last post, priorities for the team did pivot and work for showing current VAT liability was put on hold.
While not actively underway atm, we have intentions of surfacing an organisation's VAT liability total on the dashboard on our longer terms roadmap. While we'll move this idea to Accepted for now, as soon as there is movement we'll be back to update you again. Thanks

VAT return -Side navigation or contents pages
VAT Return - transactions by VAT Box
Hi our company VAT return is currently over 400 pages long. Reviewing it is not easy when you have the box 1 figure on page one. I then scroll to about page 65 to get to the box 4 numbers after scrolling past it 2 or 3 times.
It would be amazing if there was a navigation panel to one side that I could click and it would take me to the page of the vat return relevant to the box number I want to review.5 votes -
CIS - File for overpayments allocated to a CIS invoice
Yes that's right. Let's say you pay a subby £150 in advance and allocate that as an overpayment on their account from the bank feed. You then get an invoice from them a couple of weeks later for £500 and deduct CIS of £100 leaving £400 outstanding. You allocate the overpayment from the account of £150 and pay your subby the balance of £250. The system will only declare CIS on the £250 element of what you have paid. You have to know an overpayment has been allocated, reverse it and allocate the payment directly to the invoice for it…

VAT Return - adding detail to transaction
When reviewing a VAT return on the transactions by tax rate tab - there is no way to view the detail if the payment was through an invoice or bill even though you are able to see the detail if it is entered as a spend money or receive money transaction.
Being able to create bills and add attachments is extremely convenient, however, it is not when you are unable to see the detail you have provided when reviewing the VAT return.
Please look into this! Thank you.

VAT - VAT threshold warning for registration
Ability to have a warning message appear when turnover is reaching the VAT registration / deregistration threshold
40 votesHi everyone, thanks for raising and supporting this idea of having more visibility or an alert when turnover is reaching the VAT threshold. This is something our team have picked up and taking a deeper dive into. No promises at this point but we'll keep you updated of any news here.

Running total of CIS liability on the dashboard
Could the CIS liability 'running total' become available on the Dashboard? For any CIS registered business it is important to know liabilities at the click of a button. Please can Xero support look into an "add-on" for CIS liability total shown on the dashboard.

GST Returns - Next and Previous period options in return
We would like to be able to go next and back through GST periods/returns on xero. At the moment you have to got back into the GST report tab to see the next/previous period. You should just be able to click next or pervious off to the side

VAT return - Simplified client view for VAT Return
VAT Return -
a client view would be useful, which would exclude invoices that are reversed out via prepayment / accrual reversals, or invoices that are reclassified. These inputs and reversals confuse the client, and aren't necessary. However, inclusion in the accountants view is obviously useful.2 votes -
BAS - Include Sales Invoice number
It would be great if the Activity Statement Transaction reports included the Sales Invoice number in addition to the Reference field. The old full BAS report used to show the Sales Invoice number as the Reference field on the report.
We use simPRO for Invoicing and when the data is imported the Job No/Order Number is imported into the Reference field in Xero but we sometimes issue multiple invoices per job so the Invoice number is much more relevant as a reference.2 votes
