Thanks for sharing your idea in the community here, Trevor. We don't have plans for adding Projects to other reports in Xero at present but we'll start to get a sense of the interest for this in your idea here and share if there are any changes.

  2. When posting an invoice as a fixed asset, why not choose the depreciation rate at that point, when the invoice is posted?

We appreciate your idea—it's now live for the community to review!

This is where you come in: share it with your colleagues! Their votes are crucial, and their comments can add valuable detail about how this change would specifically improve their experience with Xero. Let's get the support rolling.

  3. Standard layout, which is the one that clients generate and use to check their profits, shows dividends paid, Income tax expense or distributions. This makes the client very confused as these are not part of the operating expenses. Clients do not need to know how to edit or prepare a new layout to take these expenses out. Also, we as accountants can't customize P&L for each of our clients.

This needs to be address urgently.

Thanks again for your idea, John. Appreciate I reviewed this a few months ago, and while we still don't have any plans at this stage it'll be good to get a sense of interest from others here.

Make sure to share with any colleagues that may also find this helpful, so they can vote too!

  5. Report to see when a customer account was opened/set up. When conducting customer credit account reviews it would be handy if there was a report to see what date a customer account was set up. So you are only reviews accounts that have been opened for a year. At the moment the only way to see when an account was set up is to look at the notes/history on each individual account.

  6. A report to see how much each staff member is billing out per month. There are similar reports like the write on/off report but it doesn't seem entirely accurate.

Hi Eilish, is there are particular way your staff are recording how they bill customers through your Xero organisation atm? - e.g are you using Projects, or Tracking?

As you noted there maybe a report that we an suggest that'll fully serve your needs in this here.

  7. Hi team

We need Xero to be able to calculate tax correctly on part year returns for clients in Xero tax. Even though the date fields are available in your returns to show a part year, the tax is still calculated for a full year so the assessment from IRD differs from the return prepared in XPM.

Currently the only option is to file via myIR which is really not good enough.

Hi team, we appreciate the interest in being able to manage part year returns through Xero Tax for NZ. This isn't something we have in our plans at present.

I can assure you our team are aware of the interest on this idea and if there's any progress we'll let you know through the idea here.

  8. Historical MTD VAT reports can't be seen after subscription downgrade!

We have just realised that we have lost access to a client's MTD VAT reports after their Xero subscription was downgraded to ledger after de-registering for VAT and becoming dormant. We can see all their pre 2019 VAT reports under "Filed with HMRC" or "Published" but there is nowhere to view the subsequent MTD returns and the detail behind them. Not great when you are preparing a final set of accounts prior to dormancy.

These reports may well be needed in future in the case of a VAT inspection or…

  9. Like Sage I would like every item to have the VAT return Date and month it was recorded on attached to it and if/when it was adjusted which return the adjustment was submitted on as well.

  10. When exporting reports to Excel they are coming in with very narrow row heights. By Default Excel will create a row height 4 points larger than the font. Eg: default font is 11 points and row height is 15 points. If I increase the point size, the row height increases.

My exported reports have the general data at 9 points but the row height is at 11 points - and I'm constantly having to modify my spreadsheets.

It appears that Xero believes that a 2 point difference between font size and row height gives enough white space to make the…

Hey Rachael, we’ve updated this idea's status to Gaining Support. This feature could simplify customising reports by offering an alternative to drag-and-drop, saving time when working with larger reports.

If you’d like to see this improvement, please vote or comment to add your voice. Community feedback is essential for ongoing enhancements at Xero.

Thanks for participating in the Xero Product Ideas community.

  12. As someone who is colour blind, I find the Budget Variance Arrows are similar / same colour which makes viewing budget variance at a glance a challenge.

It would be great to have an option to have lines highlighted a colour if above/below budget instead. Even better if this colour option was customisable.

  13. I would like the GST AUDIT REPORT to be permanently updated, so that the transaction SOURCE FIELD would be included in the report. Otherwise the report should be customisable to include this and many other fields / options, so any of us professionals and internal accountants can extract what we need to review client / business BAS data easier, and lodge the BAS's quicker. There are MANY ideas for the GST AUDIT report to be customisable and several are also relevant to me and my needs, but I couldn't find a request for this one and it is such an…

  14. When reviewing the GST Audit Report we are able to sort by account number, but when printing in PDF it reverts back to date sort order. Can we have an option to print to PDF in account code order.

Hi everyone, as you may have seen in recent communications - We've rolled out a new and improved New Zealand GST experience.

While we've made many changes, we want to be open that transactions will only print in date order. This isn't something we have plans for changing in the near future and we'll move the idea to not planned. If our position of this changes at any point we'll be sure to update you of this here.

  15. Selecting Multiple tracking Categories in one Budget

I work in an NPO and we have a very complex system, we have 4 departments and in our department we work on many different projects which run over different year periods. we also have donors that donate to more than one project with donations overlapping financial year periods.

we have created two tracking categories, Projects and Donors. Under each category there is multiple options, For example Marketing team - school project and marketing team University project.

We would please like to be able to 1 create budget for each department by selecting…

  16. Xero's Sales Tax Report doesn't recognize the great state of California's tax year: 7/1-6/30. Xero pull-downs only offer calendar-year options (1/1-12/31). So, we couldn't set up Sales Tax Report for largest state in the US. Please fix this. We can do it ad infinitum manually, but it seems that Xero could fix the problem. (Avalara could inform Xero if other US states also vary from a simple calendar Tax Year reporting.)

Appreciate you sharing your idea and why you'd find an automated date setting for California on the Sales Tax report helpful, Cheryl.

Make sure you share your idea with any colleagues that this could benefit so they can add their vote too!

We'll keep an eye on the traction this gets in the community, here. Thanks

  17. Reviewing VAT Returns

I don't know if it is just me, but when I am reviewing VAT returns and looking at the transactions, as I scroll down the screen I can lose track of what VAT rate I am looking at if there are lots of transactions.

Would it be possible to add a column or a header that states the VAT rate on the transaction schedule that remains visible on the screen as you scroll?

Scrolling up and down to check or locate specific VAT Rates wastes a lot of time.

    Thanks

    Sarah

  18. I know this is not critical for the reporting accuracy of Xero within, but it would be a great help to those who extract many times a report from Xero and have multiple clients handling. I hope Xero Support can find ways to be consistent in their naming convention by default. And not overriding names thru Report layouts. Thanks!

Appreciate sharing your thoughts on date conventions used across reports in Xero, Danmark. While there's standardisation across the way dates are shown across Xero, there can be slight differences based on region, as well as the period being reflected.

For example all regions excepting US will show date format as Date Month Year, where-as US will be formatted as Month Day, Year.

When Xero reports for a general period like an entire month or year this is abbreviated to the shortest date format that represents that period e.g June 2025 or 2025 respectively, however when running a report for a singular 'as at' date the entire date is shown such as 13 June 2025.

While I appreciate it doesn't mean a change to the formatting that you're requesting here, hopefully this sheds light on where date formatting may differ and gives more assurance that there's a structured approach to how…

  19. Ability to create custom formulas in reporting, specifically to be able to (+) some accounts and (-) others. Support referred to this as custom complex formulas, but it is a simple formula. We just need to be able to customize them.

  20. I would like to suggest adding the capability to generate Sankey diagrams within Xero. Sankey diagrams are highly effective in visualizing the flow of resources, such as money, energy, or data, through different stages or categories. They could be used to illustrate cash flow, revenue distribution, and expense breakdowns in a more intuitive and engaging way.

By adding Sankey diagrams, Xero could offer users a more dynamic and insightful view of their financial data, helping them better understand how money moves through their business, leading to improved decision-making and reporting.

Interesting idea and good to hear the different visualisations that'd help our customers understand their business, Paul. This isn't something we have immediate plans for but will be good to get a understanding of the interest from the community here.
