Hi everyone, appreciate your continued feedback on new invoicing. As mentioned in my last update we've now added a new Xero Central page for new invoicing.
Along with updates to individual ideas on Xero Product Ideas, this page will become the single source of truth for key feature rollouts including:
- what’s available in new invoicing right now,
- timelines for features and enhancements going live in new invoicing, as well as
- a comparison table between the classic and newer versions of invoicing.
We'll be updating this page regularly.
Relating to some of the more recent feedback there are some existing ideas that may also be of particular interest that you can join, like the ability to see the email the invoice was sent to in the history, or being able to see a timestamp, and reducing clicks and steps.

Small business here that uses the software once or twice a month. New invoicing was a pointless update with a more convoluted layout. Clearly not user-tested, otherwise you’d have seen this level of feedback sooner and re-evaluated its usefulness. Or did you receive negative feedback and decide to continue shoehorning it in anyway?

Please keep classic invoicing. The new invoicing interface is time consuming and definitely not user friendly. The new invoicing no longer allows for files to automatically be attached to the invoices from the Xero inbox this creates extra work especially when clients are sending hundreds of documents into Xero files which need to be attached to invoices.
I have tried to use the new invoicing and the only way round it is, to download the document from Xero inbox, and then attaching to the invoice. In my opinion the new invoicing is unnecessary and creates extra work.
Please at least have the option available for users to keep the classic invoicing.

Please keep Classic Invoicing even beyond February 2025, the new version is not time/user friendly at all.
Don't need to fix something that is not broken.

I absolutely agree, please KEEP the classing invoicing as it is, the new version is not user/time friendly at all, the new format is too much.
There is no need to fix something that is not broken. The classic works just fine as it is please.

Classic invoicing is much more compact and user friendly, I can't see any benefits to the new format. Would much rather keep classic invoicing!

Just a thank you for not cutting us off this month from our old perfect system. Now closure pushed back to late February 2025 . Thank you and now as a Christmas present why not let us stay on the old system forever and let those of you brave enough play around with the new imperfect one seperatly?

I agree with all the comments to retain Classic Invoicing, please KEEP CLASSIC INVOICING

The new interface for invoicing is nowhere near as user friendly as classic invoicing. The fact that you keep moving the roll out date back suggests I am not alone in disliking the new layout. The layout and flow of classic invoicing is far superior to the new interface and so much more user friendly. It looks like an invoice. I have 35 years experience working in accounts and I'm really not a fan of the new look, its seems to be designed by someone who doesn't use it they just design it. I have tried using it and keep switching back to classic. I'm not adverse to change if it works but this doesn't work. I use this everyday and its vital it works for your users not just looks how your designers want it to look. Please don't remove classic invoicing it could mean I have to switch to a different provider and I like Xero. If it ain't broke don't fix it, classic invoicing works very well. Please allow us the option if you insist on rolling out a new interface at least have the two options so we can choose. I am so happy this morning that I can still use classic invoicing for longer.

I find the new invoicing layout really cluttered which is annoying. BUT most importantly is the fact that one has to press so many more buttons to get to the end results than in the classic format. The only benefit that I see in the new invoicing is that you can print a delivery note.
I print multiple invoices daily and the new version is really slowing down my work rate and the frustration this brings detracts from my focus.
I agree with all of the comments listed. Just keep Classic please

I tried to have a go with the new invoicing but I always switch to classic as it's more complex and I personally find it complicated, and there are extra uneeded steps. The older layout is much more simpler. Please keep it!

As an IT provider we have hundreds of customers on Xero and the feed back I get from ALL of them is that they detest the new invoicing. It's a washed out, clunky style that has no place in a modern accounting package. I've not spoken to anyone that likes the new invoicing yet. I think the product roadmap team should put their big boy pants on, and accept that this is a wrong decision, directly against the wishes of their paying customers. Have both invoicing methods, if needed, but the new look is already moaned about on the Customer section etc. Looks like Xero have lost their way and too stubborn to make the U turn.

We request that we retain access to Classic Invoicing rather than transitioning to the new invoicing style. Invoicing is a fundamental aspect of accounting that relies on consistency and clarity, qualities that Classic Invoicing delivers exceptionally well. The new invoicing format, while visually updated, diverges from the straightforward structure accountants rely on for efficiency.
As accountants, our focus is on precise, functional presentation, and Classic Invoicing meets these needs perfectly. We appreciate your consideration in allowing users the option to continue with this tried-and-true invoicing format and this choice shall stay forever.

New invoicing is far worse than Classic Invoicing. It's not progress when you are trying to force poorly designed and built software on people.

I see that Xero has extended classic invoicing until end of Feb 25 (yay, coz let's face it, we all want to KEEP it!) ... so how about you let us just stay with classic invoicing instead of making us switch back every 24 hours. I would really appreciate not having to click twice to get back to where I want to be.
Alternatively ... feel free to fix the bug where Xero doesn't know the next available invoice number when I delete the existing invoice number ... coz that one is also very annoying and at this point it might be the only thing holding me back.
Thanks! And yes, I'm posting this in a few different places in the hope that I will be heard and that this infuriating bug will be fixed so that we get the old functionality in the so called New Invoicing.

Fully agree. Keep Classic Invoicing. The new invoicing is simply annoying and a lot more time consuming to work with. We have a team of 24 who all agree and if classic invoicing is dropped we shall most likely move to Netsuit.

I agree with all the comments to retain Classic Invoicing. On my end, I have always thought that updates should always aim to provide some improvements. The new invoicing has been slow to load, error resulting in inability to edit a finalised invoice (multi-currency), more steps to upload file attachments, unable to customise currency exchange rates, and the new layout is a downgrade. I would like to know what the benefits are for the new invoicing compared to the classic one. Because from trying out the new invoicing, there does not seem to be any. I would still need to switch to classic invoicing in order for anything to work.

The new payment format on new invoicing really slows me down, the extra clicks and inability to smoothly move between cells is so frustrating. Really not looking forward to changing to the new invoicing permanently, it's going to have a detrimental affect on my work.

I am in agreement with all the comments about retaining Classic Invoicing. At least give your customers the choice as now exists. New Invoicing does not work well on a small screen and is a clunky adaptation of something that works really well.

New invoicing is terrible. The 'shouty tone' demanding money in the non-editable email headers is appalling and goes against how we conduct business. Auto-saving creates more problems - not sure what they trying to fix there. All of the processes are more complex than classic invoicing - we have enjoyed classic invoicing for over 10 yrs!
