Hi everyone, appreciate your continued feedback on new invoicing. As mentioned in my last update we've now added a new Xero Central page for new invoicing.
Along with updates to individual ideas on Xero Product Ideas, this page will become the single source of truth for key feature rollouts including:
- what’s available in new invoicing right now,
- timelines for features and enhancements going live in new invoicing, as well as
- a comparison table between the classic and newer versions of invoicing.
We'll be updating this page regularly.
Relating to some of the more recent feedback there are some existing ideas that may also be of particular interest that you can join, like the ability to see the email the invoice was sent to in the history, or being able to see a timestamp, and reducing clicks and steps.

Please keep the classic invoicing!
The new version does not fit to screen properly and you have to scroll side to side. its clunky and spread out, unlike the original version which is compact and simple to use. The new version requires more clicks to simply approve and send an invoice which makes it less efficient to use. The calendar is gone when selecting invoice/due dates. Its just yuck to look at and feels like Xero have gone backwards if they make this update permanent. -

Please ensure the following is transferred to New Invoicing - it is essential:
Make manual tax adjustments from the invoice subtotal -

Please do not insist on a 24-hour switchback - it's annoying. Also, I'd like to see Classic Invoicing remain a choice. If you did this - your clients would vote with their feet!

Please don’t behave like Sonos and take away something that works and replace it with a fancy inferior product. Listen to your customers. We prefer classic invoicing because it works and don’t want to be forced to use something that doesn’t. Keep both available and don’t bully us with a 24 hour switchback, that’s just annoying to suit your own agenda. If you didn’t bargain on all this pushback maybe you should have done a better job on your development. The pain for us is real and we pay for this service. Don’t be like Sonos.

I also found today that the history on an invoice under classic has changed. I generate repeating invoices and had one set for draft which was done on the 3rd October. It showed as being created on the 3 Oct which was fine and has sat there up until today and for some stupid reason it says the issue date was changed from the 3/10 to today but it hasn't been touched except to upload an attachment. The original history previously showed no such thing as I had a look back on other repeating draft invoices I have set up. The issue date was not the 3rd October like the history is showing as it was never approved so should not be showing edited at all until it is actually approved and then any changes recorded as edited.
Xero's so called upgrades are rubbish as doing an invoice under new is so time consuming it's frustrating- just because you need to move to a new platform to accommodate future upgrades doesn't mean you should change everything that works well, instead you just make everyone's work harder to do now. Your IT Developers should be able to bring everything over from classic and then just improve from there not completely change things and add extra work. Not like we can charge you for causing all the extra work needed back on our clients for all that extra time spent, I'm sure they'd start complaining if we did. You're happy to increase your prices for something that doesn't work properly and is full of bugs and glitches and use us as free testers. -

I've been using the new invoicing format for a while now, but I keep going back to the classic. The new format does not allow me to see all columns on the screen at the same time, which means I have to keep scrolling back and forth sideways - this is time consuming, and annoying. Also I find that fields that have drop down menus, e.g. Item or Account, no longer work properly so have to click on selection repeatedly. Can no longer save and continue to edit. It takes me longer to raise an invoice than using the classic, so it's very inefficient. Overall, I don't like the new format and hope you will keep the classic. Why fix it if it ain't broke?

Agree with all the other comments here. Please keep Classic invoicing. The new invoicing has zero benefit to our business. It is does it take longer with the workarounds we have had to implement. Beyond useless for us.

Please DO NOT GET RID OF CLASSIC INVOICING.. Changing to the new format is completely unnecessary - why change something that works REALLY WELL. The reason I switched my clients to Xero is becsue "the other" accounting system made "upgrades" that made it worse in terms of user-friendliness and a logical way to go through the process. You did the same thing with Reports last year. Building a summary report became nearly impossible and took ages instead of a few clicks. It was so awkward that we resulted in building everything in Excel instead. Huge productivity loss.
I just switched banks (6 business accounts) for the same reason. We have to do 3 steps to print a statement instead of the previous one.
You will drive customers away of you continue to do this. -

Absolutely, keep classic invoicing. Why do companies like banks and accounting firms believe that they have to change something that is fully functional. user-friendly and highly efficient. The new invoicing look and feel, navigation and productivity are all negative aspects. All seven of my clients who use Xero agree.

Please keep classic invoicing in place. I really don’t like the newer version. Why change something that works? Just for the sake of it?

new invoicing has some pretty bad glitches:
- when copying a po to an invoice draft, often the currency defaults to gbp (when we always work in euros - did not have this problem with classic invoicing)
- when copying a po to an invoice the invoice is sometimes addressed to the supplier instead of the customer!
- i was not able to copy a po to a supplier bill, it seemed the only option was to copy to a 'quote' which is not relevant to our business. -

Please listen to customers. The new invoicing method doesn't work in the same way as classic. I have tried it over the last few months. I hate it! Glad you are extending for a few more months and I'm switching back. Classic does everything I need. Have been looking for an alternative to Xero unfortunately not found anything that does all tasks.

Small business here that uses the software once or twice a month. New invoicing was a pointless update with a more convoluted layout. Clearly not user-tested, otherwise you’d have seen this level of feedback sooner and re-evaluated its usefulness. Or did you receive negative feedback and decide to continue shoehorning it in anyway?

Please keep classic invoicing. The new invoicing interface is time consuming and definitely not user friendly. The new invoicing no longer allows for files to automatically be attached to the invoices from the Xero inbox this creates extra work especially when clients are sending hundreds of documents into Xero files which need to be attached to invoices.
I have tried to use the new invoicing and the only way round it is, to download the document from Xero inbox, and then attaching to the invoice. In my opinion the new invoicing is unnecessary and creates extra work.
Please at least have the option available for users to keep the classic invoicing.

Please keep Classic Invoicing even beyond February 2025, the new version is not time/user friendly at all.
Don't need to fix something that is not broken.

I absolutely agree, please KEEP the classing invoicing as it is, the new version is not user/time friendly at all, the new format is too much.
There is no need to fix something that is not broken. The classic works just fine as it is please.

Classic invoicing is much more compact and user friendly, I can't see any benefits to the new format. Would much rather keep classic invoicing!

I agree with all the comments to retain Classic Invoicing, please KEEP CLASSIC INVOICING

The new interface for invoicing is nowhere near as user friendly as classic invoicing. The fact that you keep moving the roll out date back suggests I am not alone in disliking the new layout. The layout and flow of classic invoicing is far superior to the new interface and so much more user friendly. It looks like an invoice. I have 35 years experience working in accounts and I'm really not a fan of the new look, its seems to be designed by someone who doesn't use it they just design it. I have tried using it and keep switching back to classic. I'm not adverse to change if it works but this doesn't work. I use this everyday and its vital it works for your users not just looks how your designers want it to look. Please don't remove classic invoicing it could mean I have to switch to a different provider and I like Xero. If it ain't broke don't fix it, classic invoicing works very well. Please allow us the option if you insist on rolling out a new interface at least have the two options so we can choose. I am so happy this morning that I can still use classic invoicing for longer.
