New Invoicing - Reduce the amount of empty space on screen
Have less white space on new invoicing as it fills screen. The notes section which is in contacts 4000 chars make visable and editable on the new invoice page so we can see it whilst creating and invoice. We dont then have to keep jumping from one page to the next.
Thanks to everyone that participated in and shared back on the team’s research in the new invoicing layout. Taking your feedback on board our teams have made some improvements to the layout of new invoicing, including changes to the layout of fields and buttons.
By rearranging and condensing space between fields, you’ll find there is less white space than previously shown, making it easier to navigate and tab through fields when entering your invoices.
We’re actively looking into changes within the invoicing grid that’ll go further to condensing information on the screen and reducing actions when entering your invoices. We’ll update as there is more information to share on this.

I have a tab especially for the new invoicing screen opened in Chrome so I can zoom to 80% (but then have to squint to see the tracking info), whilst using the rest of Xero in Edge so I 'only' have to zoom to 90% in order to fit as much data on the screen as possible - this solution is so un-user-friendly

You need to do something about the white space or the font size, because if I zoom to 80% to reduce the scrolling, then I can't read the
'Account: x Tax rate: x and tracking codes as you have tagged these on to the line as an after-thought in a TINY FONT. Also, I thought you were going to revert back to a tabular format where all the information for one row was on the SAME row! IT's so much harder to read a sent invoice without clicking twice to edit it and no one wants to go to edit a sent invoice just to view it. -

Agreed - Like everyone else, I am having issues with the new invoice format. I use both a laptop for work and a 27 inch monitor and the new version of invoices does not fit on either screens. It means that I have to scroll down loads more than with classic invoicing. Please make new invoicing more efficient by reducing the white space.

Sorry - Like everyone else, I am having issues with the new invoice format. I have tried searching through these forums for answers or help but it seems that everyone is complaining about the same thing and I can't find the answer. I use a laptop for work and the new version of invoices does not fit on my screen. It means that I have to scroll to see all of the columns and also scroll if I need to add more than one item to an invoice. With the classic version, I could add multiple items. It is like the font and columns are too large in the new format. I also find that i have to click through items when tabbing that didn't require a click before including:
Online payment, currency, tax and Add contacts last items. All of these you didn't have to tab through before. Can we turn them "off" on new invoice format? Please see screen shots to show you how the new invoice doesn't fit on my screen. Please keep Classic Invoicing. Learn from other companies... like Coca Cola. No one liked the new flavour and they ended up having to make Classic Coke again. -

I note you've made some changes already, but there is still way too much white space, I find myself having to scroll after only entering a few products. Especially annoying with the buttons at the top of the invoice too!

Please either keep the old invoicing view or create a condensed version of the new invoice.
The new invoice has too many spaces and you can't view the whole invoice on the screen. This causes unnecessary scrolling to see the total invoice, which is needed all the time and it's very annoying.

There is also too much whitespace on the "finished" invoice page. It makes it hard to track the eye across and get an overview.
The account is pretty important and is relegated to some smaller info row, while there is so much wasted space. -

Fourth time I try to switch to New Invoicing... Still No copy to Purchase order a key feature for me... But this is not the topic.
I notice some change on the page layout But not in the direction I expected.. We asked for less white space. I get a scroll bar instead... Until My page is used to it full width Would I expect a Scroll bar.
Since apparently this is still work in progress, I am holding my breath... Please surprise me... -

Echoing @Raewnyn Dawson's comment about the item drop down - the current view is terrible and adds extra time and faff to the process. Another crackers "improvement" that I can't get my head around.
Who tested this? Who approved it?
Bonkers -

Is the white space going to be reduced in the Item drop down menu as well.
I used to be able to put my code 013 in and get 9 of the relevant items before I needed to scroll, Now I can only fit 4 items as it now uses 3 lines and a space line for each item, old invoicing they were all on one line. What I liked about the old item list when creating a invoice was that it was fast and I could find what I wanted quickly.

Is this going to include the loading time too? The classic invoicing you can quickly tab between the columns, although new invoicing you have to wait for it to load and select before changing to next tab. All adds time and causes mistakes/incorrect account charging.

Currently, if you ZOOM a tab for a particular web site, ALL tabs on that Website will ZOOM to the same level. This is a nuisance if you have to ZOOM some windows to see certain Xero pages properly, and then find it is wrong for others.
To fix this behaviour, there is a Chrome Extension called "Per Tab Zoom" on the Chrome Web Store, which allows you to have different zoom levels in different tabs. See https://bit.ly/49FCEGU

This app might be interesting for some on here - it has more options to customise repeating schedules and delivers forecasts from the repeating invoice schedules in 2 clicks to excel - its early stage, but useful with an interesting roadmap

totally agree - its terrible to look especially as most people now work with big screens!
Only way I can work round it now is to have Xero open in completely separate window when using NEW INVOICING that I can zoom out of
Bit agree its not a great solution

Xero - please add a compact button for this? Like in your reports screen.
"Turn Compact view on or off Compact view reduces the white space between report results."
Compact ON, should significantly reduce the white space and the account/tax/discount/track categories columns all on the right side like it does in classic,
whereas compact OFF should have normal white space plus leaving the accounts etc under the description like you have now.Currently I have to zoom out to 70% to get the view I need on new invoicing which is super annoying when navigating to a new page, and the darn tracking/info columns are in an annoying spot very hard to see what I am looking for!

@ Clare Taylor, Rachel Oakley, John Harris.
Ask for a second screen on your computer. It will make you much more productive. I have THREE screens, and would not want to go back to just having one.

I don't like the new Invoicing either. I think that one reason it has been introduced is because of work underway to support multiple addresses for the Invoice, the delivery Note, and statement etc etc. Also for scenarios (like a builders merchants) where there is one INVOICE address for the customer, but multiple delivery addresses for the orders as they are for different building projects in different locations. The CLASSIC invoicing system just will not support the necessary changes to the database structure.
If you have certain information that you have to have on EVERY invoice, create a draft invoice with the necessary items and descriptions, and just COPY that to a new invoice as required. If you leave at least one item without an account code, then you can never approve the template draft invoice by mistake.
HOWEVER - If you use Shift-Return when typing the item description, then it starts a new line. Do it twice, and you get a blank line. The blank lines ARE retained when you save the invoice.

I hate the new invoicing layout on a desktop. I have to add a lot of detail onto the invoice (not just a line description) and it is incredibly annoying having it so massive and loads of white space. It doesn't match the size/fonts of any of the other screens and it incredibly annoying to use as there is a LOT of scrolling now involved and my description no longer fits to one line. It looks like a kid friendly version. Please can you make a more compact screen for the new invoicing.
Also I used to be able to add a return (line space) into the line description and now it automatically deletes it and all my work descriptions run together. How can I add a blank line between items?

I often need to work with Xero sized at half a screen (ie. with another window alongside, e.g. emails of invoice requests), this is going to be very difficult/ incredibly annoying, when new invoicing takes up the whole screen, Or (in half size) you have to scroll side to side all the time to see all the columns.
Classic invoicing manages fine to shrink down to half page size, please can you do this in new invoicing? I also just don't like everything being so massive and spread out on the page, it looks like it's the kids (& beta) version or something(!)
Please help - thanks! -

The new layout is horrendous if using half a screen when multi tasking. In fact everything about the new invoice layout is just wrong. Nothing gels together
