New Xero Files - Drag & drop file to Folder
Before the update you could drag and drop directly into a folder in Xero Files. Now you have to drag and drop into the Inbox and then move from there. This created an extra step. It would be great if you could still have the option to drag and drop a document directly into the folder within the archive.

Its so frustrating, the drag and drop box also reduces in size after you have put in your first document.
It really feels like this is a step backward, you then have to do further clicks to put items in a file, when before you could see everything listed on the one screen.
They have also screwed adding files to sales invoices which is hugely frustrating for us as we have a large number of self billing invoices with excel backing data which we cant add through Dext, and Xeros support idea to "streamline" the process takes us longer than what it did before - why do i have to save an invoice before i had a document, its yet another unneeded step!

We have the same issue, this is adding extra work as we can't drag attachments from emails, we have to save to the computer first. We don't always want to email bills to our Xero inbox.

Also the drag and drop feature appears to disappear altogether in the inbox once one or more files have already been uploaded.

completely agree with comments below. this change to the file system is a backward step. it was so convenient to be able to drag and drop email attachments into the file folder. Now I am not even able to drag into the inbox. the user should be in control of where the folders are, whether in the inbox or archive and have the freedom to move around as needed. i really do not want to have to save an attachment to my pc, then upload the document to files. I am trying to reduce the amount of docs saved on the pc. this change has created extra work and changed a really handy tool into something that is clunky and not user friendly.

I struggle to see the benefit of this update. This seems like a step backwards, making my life more difficult. First of all, my folders got auto-archived. One of the folders I am still working on, but now I am unable to add files to it, because it is archived. Why can't I un-archive the folder with one click? Also, why am I not able to create folders in the Inbox anymore? This is how I used to organise invoices for my accountant. You made something that worked well worse, creating overhead for users with no obvious benefit, or what am I missing here?

Again, it wasn't broken so why try to fix it, it was fine before. Now, as Xero seems to like to do, there are several more steps that need to be taken to do what was easy in the past.
I like the archive bit but LET THE CLIENT DECIDE what goes in it. -

100% Agreed the new files inbox is a step backwards, we also use to be able to upload into one of the folders that we create, now we have to upload into the inbox and then move the document where we want it. I get that things need to be changed but this change is definitely not moving us forwards

A small thing, but the pop up showing the changes to the Files screen has finally appeared for me, but the video is stuck loading and refuses to play.
Such a great, well made product...
EDIT: got the video to work, and played around a bit. Side note - why do I have to create a random account that I'm never going to use again to be able to comment on the video? Why can't I use my Xero account??
Why do unattached files disappear from the inbox?? Logically if I've attached them them to a transaction they will disappear from that view, fine that makes sense, but if I _unattach_ them (because I've clicked on the wrong one, for example), then it just disappears into the archive hole, even though it still needs to be 'actioned'. - I kept refreshing the screen waiting for the document to pop back up in the inbox, but it just never did.
Surely the logic should be "if not attached to a transaction OR not moved to a separate folder, then show in Inbox"...
It _does_ show up on the old 'Inbox' list when selecting a file from within a transaction. SUCH CONSISTANCY!! (with their "upcoming improvements" I'm not expecting that to last).

I save tax financials & signed tax returns for clients in the files section in Xero. This is handy as clients can obtain them easily if applying for finance.
We also encourage clients to use the files section to save Constitutions, Trust Deeds and other important business documents such as insurance quotes/premiums to name a few. Changing the way we can save to these folders as you have is a step backwards. -

I agree this is a terrible change. Seeing everything I have uploaded threw me I then deleted quite a few only to see that it has removed it from the bills and invoices I had previously attached it to. Was industry consult done on this because as someone who manages 8 companies on Xero I am very unhappy with the way this now works

I totally agree. This would have to be the worst change that Xero has made during my time using Xero. Also, if you click on "all archived" every bill that has been emailed to "draft purchases" shows up here and I'm fairly certain that if I try to delete these documents it may delete them from the bill as an attachment
