Homepage - Simplify layout
The beta version of the new Xero layout. updated interface feels overly busy and cluttered, which makes navigation more difficult—particularly for clients who manage multiple bank accounts.
I believe users should have the choice to switch to the new layout when they’re ready, rather than being automatically transitioned.
Additionally, clients pay for Xero to streamline their financial management, not to have advertising pushed at them.
The current design detracts from the user experience and makes it harder to find and complete tasks efficiently.
Hi community, thank you for all the engagement and we can see the growing interest in improvements to help simplify your view of information on the new Homepage and navigate important information and insights with more ease.
Right now, our team have a few pieces of work underway intended to help with some of the pain points that have been raised here these include:
- More options for the sizing of widgets so you can reduce these frames and better position this information on your screen
- More customisation of information within a widget like being able to remove visuals
- Improving the experience of moving widgets when editing the homepage to make it more obvious when dragging and dropping them to different positions on the page
We’ve also roadmapped further changes for later this year, once everyone is on the new experience. I’ll share more updates as we progress.

I agree with all of the comments. Why make a change like this without allowing the customers the option to revert back. Was the existing layout so problematic that people were complaining about it all the time?
I would've focused on the continuous broken feed issues between Xero and the banks which have caused me to pay hundreds of dollars per month for someone to double check because we can no longer rely on them...
Allow us the opportunity to just stay the way it is and don't impose something like this on us!

Come on XERO upgrade the permissions so such sensitive commercial information is not displayed on the frount page!

Kelly I totally agree!! Imagine my surprise after being away for a couple of days and suddenly there is this whole new set up!! I have to go into different places just to get to where I need to go. I used to be able to go into my draft invoices straight from the home page but now have to do this the long way. There was nothing wrong with the old way and I will be using that as long as I can.
How about you fix how slow the programe gets before trying to make it look more "beautiful" or maybe have a phone number you can contact a customer service rep!!!

The new home page is way too busy. The old one was pretty simple, easy on the eyes, all the info I needed was there. I find this new page quite cluttered, the widgets are too big - it's kind of a mess actually.
I don't really understand why this was changed?

Rosie you are so right.
XERO seem to have been hijacked by the IT department and forgotten about the Customer - there are many more things that need to be done before embarking on this.
Come on XERO - deal with a huge number of items that customers need before embarking on new "stuff".

Come on XERO this is a mess and far too mutch commercialy sensitive information is displayed.
Use the permissions section to mnage this please. It is crazy to have so mutch on the hole page esp customer lists, P and L and so on.
Also it looks a mess!

I appreciate this is a job creation scheme, some tech management bod has to justify why they should keep their job but as the end user I prefer the old saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it..." something that Xero could learn from.
Nowt wrong with the old screen and now in the middle of month end for clients we find the screens are swapping over at the start of the month...great timing Xero!!
Instead of wasting time messing with the Home page why not add some useful features such as "Contact" to manual journals, and let's be able to dispose of an individual fixed asset in a prior month without having to roll back all the depreciation for all the assets....now those I would like to see.

the new page is way too busy, but maybe that's because the boxes are bigger, close together and the whole page seems full? Or maybe it's because there is a lot of white and fine line writing. I find I have to focus hard to figure it out. The old page has much more use of the colours, is more defined.

A toggle switch to select fixed position or floating . Would like 3 stacked vertical, can only get that if I change the window size.

One of the first things I do not like about the new style is that I cant see the full name of the bank accounts, I've renamed them to make it easier for me to navigate to each of the respective accounts and with the new style the name is cut short.
Additionally, I'm not too keen on how it looks vs the old style format.

Why did we need to change the old home screen?
I am getting a little sceptical of why things need to change. I dont think the new home screen is particularly appealing. Its way too busy! -

I agree the comments that the homepage is overly cluttered and contains things that are not important so having the ability to fully customise this would be great, but why chnage it when there was nothing wrong with it...
I would ask that you focus on fixing issues that affect day-to-day working.
One issue is the inability to adjust VAT in the expenses module - please add the facility to adjust the VAT amount as you can do with Bills, otherwise expenses have to be declined and then raised as a bill to get the correct VAT amounts.
Another is having a scroll bar for the list of companies so it's easier to navigate, this list is quite extensive...

Completely agree with the comments. There are so many other important issues that need fixing in Xero like having balance sheet budgets, rather than touching something that doesn't need changing.

The new dashboard is way too busy and complicated, definitely a fail. Users should have the option to opt out of it, its really awful. Focus on functionality not ai rubbish not cluttering up the first page you see when logging in. Often simple and straightforward is much better

The drag and drop sorting function for desktop is a nightmare to use. For some reason, each column is supposed to be roughly the same hight so when I move the widgets around it messes up most of the rest of the layout I have already sorted. Spent 5 minutes to get it somewhat orderly and failed because every time i move something, lots of other things move and i am back to square one. We have 6 or 7 bank accounts, the only way for me to have them in one column is to fill up the rest of the display with massive widgets I dont want.
Why isn't there a widget that shows the total sum of my bank accounts? Why isn't there a month to date sales widget. Looks like this is just the old dashboard, no improved functionality and just worse layout.

This is complicated and overwhelming. To think anyone is using this for fast monitoring of information is unlikely. It now just feels like a screen to get away from as soon as possible. Xero used to be proud of being 'beautiful'. Not any more

Bigger is not better.
Visually I now need to scan for information that was easy and concise on the home page.
Tried customising. Still too much, too large, and unclear.
Switched back.
I now have two information banners at the top of the old homepage that I can not dismiss!
Not happy Jan!!
Why does every new "improvement" remove functionality from a program essential to our business? -

I find the new layout to busy and overcomplicated.
It would be good to have the ability to resize widgets smaller than currently available.
Also to have the ability to place widgets on page where you want them. I have found that when trying to move bank widgets, they won't place in order I like to see them for ease of access.

I am concerned at the amount of information on this page. To have staff and competitors who know staff get access to cash flows, list of customers (this VERY sensitive) is at best surprising. This MUST be managed at the User Permissions level to protect our IP. I can not see in the Permissions for a person how this information can be suppressed.
I look forward to XERO's comments on how this can be supressed.

Yes, too cluttered. I would like to get rid of the bar graphs, not necessary as there are total for owing and overdue. The graphs are just a distraction.
