Homepage - Simplify layout
The beta version of the new Xero layout. updated interface feels overly busy and cluttered, which makes navigation more difficult—particularly for clients who manage multiple bank accounts.
I believe users should have the choice to switch to the new layout when they’re ready, rather than being automatically transitioned.
Additionally, clients pay for Xero to streamline their financial management, not to have advertising pushed at them.
The current design detracts from the user experience and makes it harder to find and complete tasks efficiently.
Hi community, thank you for all the engagement and we can see the growing interest in improvements to help simplify your view of information on the new Homepage and navigate important information and insights with more ease.
Right now, our team have a few pieces of work underway intended to help with some of the pain points that have been raised here these include:
- More options for the sizing of widgets so you can reduce these frames and better position this information on your screen
- More customisation of information within a widget like being able to remove visuals
- Improving the experience of moving widgets when editing the homepage to make it more obvious when dragging and dropping them to different positions on the page
We’ve also roadmapped further changes for later this year, once everyone is on the new experience. I’ll share more updates as we progress.

Very comparable Peter AND they have a conversion process.
They have phone support so you can talk to a REAL person based in Christchurch. They are NZ Company that has grown over the last years.
From what i have seen and used the programs are comparable with FX etc.
No, I do not work for them!!!

@Chris Curlett - how do the products compare? For a lot of us, a move away from Xero would be complicated.

The new home page is too cluttered. It's very hard to see what accounts are where. I would like the ability to resize widgets and adjust how many columns I see. At the moment I can't find where anything is.
Also I am unsure why we have advertising for apps and other things? We pay a premium for Xero and advertising should not be included anywhere in the system.

100% Agree with above comment.
We are a Media Production & Design Agency that has used Xero since 2013.
This new dashboard is several steps in the wrong direction.. Whatever you think it is supposed to be doing.. it's not.
It feels like a mistake that is "in-the-way" of me doing what I need to do. It's lacking in the beauty of simplistic, intuitive design that would make it easier to navigate... instead it's cluttered and distracting.
And then when you click through to any of the windows beyond the landing dashboard, the design reverts to the pre-existing style - so now you have created inconsistent designs within the App.

I totally prefer the current version of the homepage.
The new version is far too cluttered and NOT user-friendly. To drop the summary Invoice and Bill areas is silly as these are two areas that are most used by staff.
As for displaying commercially sensitive information to staff and competitors, I cannot follow what you are thinking of by doing this XERO – it is crazy and will damage our competitive advantages. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING OF TO DO THIS XERO!!! -

I strongly prefer the current version of the homepage and would appreciate the option to remain on it.
The existing layout works well for our workflow — it’s clear, efficient, and allows us to access key information quickly. Changes to navigation and layout can have a significant impact on day-to-day efficiency, so having the flexibility to stay with the current version would be highly valuable for our team.

I have been automatically transitioned to the new home page and it is absolutely awful, its too cluttered, even with designing your new home page it has 4 columns and looks terrible on the page and you can't make the widgets smaller.
This is going to seriously impact my work flow as I will need to delete all the widgets on my company and all my clients company and have a blank home page. Then I will need to spend extra time navigating to the items I need. Not at all helpful XeroI agree this also creates a confidentiality issue as these widgets are so large you can see them from across the street and everyone can view the financial information.
Please at least give us the option to keep the old version if we so desire. Xero please start listening to your customers instead of trying to justify yet another price increase with senseless "upgrades" These are not upgrades you are simply rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic and we all know how that turned out.
Have the option to keep your existing home page, I hate the new one and it is reducing my efficiency, I spend more time reverting to the old where available and removing all the widgets on the others.

I’d like to comment on the “Customise” suggestion from the perspective of an accounting practice.
We log into many client accounts every day — sometimes up to 50 organisations. In this workflow, it is simply not realistic to customise the homepage for each client. What may work for a single business owner does not work for firms managing multiple entities.
Efficiency is critical for us. Any extra steps, clicks, or visual changes multiplied across dozens of clients directly impact productivity.
Please consider keeping the option to continue using the current dashboard. For many accounting firms, it works well and supports a fast, consistent workflow.
This is not just a preference issue — it affects daily operations.

We have been forced to use the new homepage, which is extremely cluttered and underwhelming, and we are repeatedly encountering the following error:
“We couldn’t load all your widgets or enable homepage editing right now. Refresh the page to try again.”
Refreshing the page results in a completely blank homepage with no data available. This is directly impacting our ability to work and is not acceptable.
I have also observed this issue across multiple clients’ Xero accounts today.
Given the severity and the widespread nature of the problem, this requires urgent investigation and resolution. At this point, your tagline “faster. smarter. better.” is not reflective of the current user experience — it is coming across as cluttered, underwhelming, and overpriced. -

My main concern with the XXXL widgets and fonts is the serious confidentiality issue they present. With the high volume of traffic in my office, everyone from tradies to the cleaner can see our sensitive figures! The only way to address this problem is to remove all the widgets and revert to a blank homepage, but that forces me to waste time searching for everything I need. It’s clear that whoever designed and approved this solution does not have an understanding of how Xero accounting is used.

Really dislike the revised chart of accounts watchlist. I liked the old layout where you could much more easily see headline information. I'll be sticking with the old layout.

lol @Geoffrey Hulbert. I was just thinking the same thing after unsubbing.
I guess that's what we get for taking the time to help Xero.
OH BTW Xero: Your redesign is trash. Whose idea was this? Fire them immediately.

Thank you for inviting comment on changes and listening to comments. One of the strengths of the original layout was 'space' as already mentioned. For example, just look at the importance of space to separate ideas and concepts on this page.
The use of colour is another reason for feeling lost in the new homepage experience: again, look at the different tones and depth of colour to draw attention to specific features, separate different categories and block of colour to highlighting links on this page. Compare this to the new layout, which is a bit like trying to write a novel without paragraphs and chapters. I had to think to find the quote and purchase order features.

@Avei - I recommend raising a support ticket with Xero and letting them know about this thread and encouraging Xero to engage. If everyone did that maybe enough attention would be paid. I've raised a ticket a week ago and have highlighted how active this thread is. The more people that contact Xero the more likely they are to do something about this.

I agree, the Homepage is an absolute eyesore and so confusing to look at who designs these concepts? Do not want to come across rude but why change something if it works and why can we not have the option to keep the same format. Does Xero actually read and answer these comments?

I need to see a number of bank accounts and other widgets but not all 10-12 things at once. The 'old' homepage allowed me to have what i needed there, but the vertical layout allowed me to scroll back and forth to see what i needed to at one time.
The new layout, though customisable is so cluttered it's overwhelming. I have 4 items horizontally across my screen even after removing unused widgets. -

I agree, the new home page is not what I want to see, to be able to customise this and make it more user friendly would be better for all.
I am open to change but it needs to be for the right reasons not just because some designer thinks it will look better because it doesn't. I find it harder now to see what I really want to see, not all these fancy graphs that attracts other staff eyes to look at my screen when they walk into my office. Change is good but how about you ask for input before you roll changes out.
