Homepage - Simplify layout
The beta version of the new Xero layout. updated interface feels overly busy and cluttered, which makes navigation more difficult—particularly for clients who manage multiple bank accounts.
I believe users should have the choice to switch to the new layout when they’re ready, rather than being automatically transitioned.
Additionally, clients pay for Xero to streamline their financial management, not to have advertising pushed at them.
The current design detracts from the user experience and makes it harder to find and complete tasks efficiently.
Hi community, thank you for all the engagement and we can see the growing interest in improvements to help simplify your view of information on the new Homepage and navigate important information and insights with more ease.
Right now, our team have a few pieces of work underway intended to help with some of the pain points that have been raised here these include:
- More options for the sizing of widgets so you can reduce these frames and better position this information on your screen
- More customisation of information within a widget like being able to remove visuals
- Improving the experience of moving widgets when editing the homepage to make it more obvious when dragging and dropping them to different positions on the page
We’ve also roadmapped further changes for later this year, once everyone is on the new experience. I’ll share more updates as we progress.

Looking back at early feedback (pre-Kelly's post on Nov 12) before this was released, the comments are similar to the flood of unhappy comments now. Either you paid no attention to that early feedback, or you noted it and ignored it.

I hate the new layout. It is not easy to quickly find the area you need - there is NO distinction between headings and information below, not even a line under the heading, or boxes, or something to help easily distinguish. Stop mucking around with things that don't need to be changed and start actually changing the things we NEED changed. We just got used to the changed format and here's another one. Ugh.

I agree that the new layout feels too busy and harder to focus on. Why not allow the client to choose whether they want the new or the old layout? Everyone works differently.
For me, I really liked being able to clearly see the invoices owed, with the breakdown of drafts, awaiting payment, and overdue invoices — especially with overdue items highlighted in red. I also found the graphs attached underneath very helpful. The layout was clean, easy to read, and in an already cluttered brain, it showed me exactly what I needed to know at a glance.
I’m not as comfortable using the new interface. It doesn’t feel as simple or as clean, and it doesn’t immediately give me the information I’m looking for in the same way. -

Every time I log back in, the widgets move. Don't do that.

give me back my old homepage. It worked just fine. Meanwhile how about automatic receipts, something that WOULD improve efficiency

Kelly, you are so correct. The "new and improved layout" is not at all efficient.
XERO, perhaps you need two layouts that can be selected in Settings/permissions depending on user requirements;
ONE for day to day (current one with quick and efficent pages where we can access information ie the "old" layout
SECOND, the management page with more sensitive financial information
OR perhaps leave what is working alone - (If it isn't broken do not fix it)

I do not like the new homepage.
It is cluttered and hard to view.
The old is much better with all the accounts listed down the side, not so in your face, and the other key information on the right.
Please revert back. -

NOT loving the new home page layout, when opening Xero with someone standing beside me (which happens a lot). I really don't want all the accounts that obvious. We need a separate tab to put all the accounts into = yes I'm asking for one additional click to access my accounts, just for privacy reasons.

I agree with all of the comments. Why make a change like this without allowing the customers the option to revert back. Was the existing layout so problematic that people were complaining about it all the time?
I would've focused on the continuous broken feed issues between Xero and the banks which have caused me to pay hundreds of dollars per month for someone to double check because we can no longer rely on them...
Allow us the opportunity to just stay the way it is and don't impose something like this on us!

Come on XERO upgrade the permissions so such sensitive commercial information is not displayed on the frount page!

Kelly I totally agree!! Imagine my surprise after being away for a couple of days and suddenly there is this whole new set up!! I have to go into different places just to get to where I need to go. I used to be able to go into my draft invoices straight from the home page but now have to do this the long way. There was nothing wrong with the old way and I will be using that as long as I can.
How about you fix how slow the programe gets before trying to make it look more "beautiful" or maybe have a phone number you can contact a customer service rep!!!

The new home page is way too busy. The old one was pretty simple, easy on the eyes, all the info I needed was there. I find this new page quite cluttered, the widgets are too big - it's kind of a mess actually.
I don't really understand why this was changed?

Rosie you are so right.
XERO seem to have been hijacked by the IT department and forgotten about the Customer - there are many more things that need to be done before embarking on this.
Come on XERO - deal with a huge number of items that customers need before embarking on new "stuff".

I appreciate this is a job creation scheme, some tech management bod has to justify why they should keep their job but as the end user I prefer the old saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it..." something that Xero could learn from.
Nowt wrong with the old screen and now in the middle of month end for clients we find the screens are swapping over at the start of the month...great timing Xero!!
Instead of wasting time messing with the Home page why not add some useful features such as "Contact" to manual journals, and let's be able to dispose of an individual fixed asset in a prior month without having to roll back all the depreciation for all the assets....now those I would like to see.

the new page is way too busy, but maybe that's because the boxes are bigger, close together and the whole page seems full? Or maybe it's because there is a lot of white and fine line writing. I find I have to focus hard to figure it out. The old page has much more use of the colours, is more defined.

A toggle switch to select fixed position or floating . Would like 3 stacked vertical, can only get that if I change the window size.

One of the first things I do not like about the new style is that I cant see the full name of the bank accounts, I've renamed them to make it easier for me to navigate to each of the respective accounts and with the new style the name is cut short.
Additionally, I'm not too keen on how it looks vs the old style format.
