  1. When invoicing in XPM and choosing the task postings options Yes/No/Future, can you add a column for the cost (not just time and rate) so we can judge what to invoice and how much for.

    Hi Emily, thanks for sharing this fantastic suggestion for improving the invoicing workflow in XPM. We can see how having more direct visibility of costs would make billing decisions much easier.

    We've reviewed your idea to add a calculated 'Cost' column on the screen when reviewing task postings to be invoiced. We understand this would help you better judge what to invoice and how much for at a glance.

    Your suggestion is now ready to gain support and feedback from others in the community. Along with votes, other users can now share how having this cost visibility would impact their own billing and WIP management processes.

  2. When running reports, posting timesheets etc, it would be good for the client search function to search the entire name, rather than requiring exact input. Similarly, the ability to type a date in any format (e.g. DD/MM/YY), rather than being exact or using the calendar icon.

    Hi Emily, thanks for sharing this feedback on how we can make everyday tasks in XPM more user-friendly. We know that improvements to common fields like search and date entry can make a big difference to overall efficiency.

    We've reviewed your suggestions for making the client search function more flexible so it searches the entire name, and for allowing dates to be typed in various formats. We can see how these changes would streamline tasks like running reports and posting timesheets.

  3. Would it be possible to close sections of the job that you don't use and these stay as default. (Information Tax - job details, custom fields etc.) This would make it easier to see the sections you do use. It would also be useful if you would put them in the order you prefer.

    For example to me the most important section is tasks and these are quite low down the list. I would like this to be a default setting.

  4. With the movement towards Digital ID (MyID, Auspost Digital ID, Connect ID).

    It would be convenient if we could onboard clients using these systems. Would ensure that details were correct and identify the clients at the same time.

    can we modify the password settings?

    or allow us to modify the password in whatever way we see fit.

    the current method of dd-Mmm-yyyy with the first letter of the month being capitalise gets cumbersome for clients

    Hi Christopher, we appreciate you sharing this idea. We understand the value of being able to set a custom password for Outcome of Assessment (OoA) documents in Xero Tax. Having more control over how these documents are secured can help you align with your firm’s processes and better meet client needs.

    At the moment, Xero Tax automatically applies the client’s date of birth as the password for OoA documents in dd-Mmm-yyyy format. While this works in many cases, we acknowledge the interest in having more flexibility — whether that’s for consistency across documents, improved client experience, or added security.

    This idea is now in the Gaining Support stage. The community votes and comments help us understand how important this is to the wider Xero community and guide future product discussions. We’ll continue to monitor the feedback here and share any updates as they become available.

  6. In Xero Tax, you can enter "Any other payments or credits on account" to show what a client has already paid towards their tax bill. But you can't enter a negative figure (i.e. a refund already received for a return that is being amended) and there is nowhere to add in any outstanding tax from a previous return etc so that the payments report factors this in.

    It would be good to be able to have some additional boxes to show these please.

    Thanks for sharing your idea for being able to enter a negative figure for other payments. This is something our product team are currently exploring and we'll keep you updated on any progress for this, here.

  7. Given Xero's push for 'beautiful accounting' I find it very frustrating that the template report codes can't be re-ordered within their groups in the template reports and always revert to alphabetical at the client level, meaning every single client needs their custom reports formatting unnecessarily. Editing reports at every single client level for what I consider to be pretty basic formatting is really disappointing.

    The practice level report template should allow for report codes to be reordered within their groups. I don't want rent, rates and utility costs to be at the bottom of the establishment costs section because they…

    Hey Gareth, we appreciate you sharing this idea and highlighting the extra time spent manually reordering report codes in clients’ organisations. It’s clear that a better solution would help your practice run more smoothly.

    Right now, the only option is to reorder the codes manually within each client’s report. We know this isn’t the best solution and adds extra steps to your workflow.

    This idea is currently in the Gaining Support stage, so it’s open for votes and comments from the community. The feedback will help us understand how many people this would benefit and how important it is to your practice. We’ll keep you posted here as soon as there’s any news.

  8. When creating custom queries, only the system default workpapers are available to add the query to. So when you are processing the workpapers, you need to manually move each query to its relevant workpaper, if you want it on a custom workpaper. Please add custom workpapers to the custom query creation list.

    Alternatively - if queries were rolled forward from one year to the next, custom queries would only need to be moved in the first year.

  9. Often the first question in a section is a yes/no - it would be good to hide the additional questions that result from the first answer, rather than needing to cover all bases with additional requests for the yes or no question. The shorter the initial list, the more likely the client will answer promptly and correctly.

  10. It would be great to have two additional tax return status values, to more efficiently support the typical workflows of busy tax agents.

    1. Waiting on information - return cannot progress until the client provides missing info.

    2. Rejected - return has failed review and requires adjustment before it can be lodged.

  12. Would it be possible to visibly see the Government Gateway currently set up for HMRC submissions for each individual client? At the moment I believe this isn't available, however it would be helpful to be able to view this information via Practice Manager

When moving time to another job in XPM and you start typing the client name that the time is to be transferred to, it appears at the very bottom of the list, So you always have to scroll down the screen to see the job that you want to transfer it to. Could it please appear at the top of the list on the screen?

  14. It would be great if there were the ability to run a report of all business structure type Tax returns (AU, CTR, PTR, SMSF, TRT) with who is tax payable and refundable.

    At the moment, we can do this for some business structure types, but not all and when adding in these columns, it immediately removes all clients.

  15. We occasionally have issues when transferring Xero subscriptions with the notification being missed by the other party. Is it possible for the subscriber to receive an email when the transfer period is due to expire and the other party has not accepted?

  16. In Individual income tax returns, where an individual received a trust distribution, the trust name appears to show the Trust's TFN in the name in the trust distribution income section. It will be great if the hiding TFN feature includes the hiding of TFN in this distribution income section as well.

  18. Please can you include the workings (which are long and complicated) for top slicing relief on an insurance bond gain in the "schedule of data" report which I find to be very basic compared to what my previous tax software provider included. Otherwise it is fiddly and time consuming to check this manually.

  19. Would it be possible to match a VAT payment or refund to a VAT return?
