Xero Files - Drag & drop file to Folder
Before the update you could drag and drop directly into a folder in Xero Files. Now you have to drag and drop into the Inbox and then move from there. This created an extra step. It would be great if you could still have the option to drag and drop a document directly into the folder within the archive.
Hi everyone, thanks for your feedback on the Xero Files changes. We appreciate you explaining how important direct drag-and-drop is to your workflows.
We've reviewed your idea and now it's up to the community to get behind and support it. Make sure you share your idea with any colleagues that this could benefit so they can add their vote too!
Along with votes, other members can now comment to share additional detail about how your idea could improve their experience with Xero.

Why is that when Xero updates something to apparently make our life easier, and they do the exact opposite, they then expect us to "get the community to get behind and support it" just to restore the program to the same basic functionality that we had before their "updates".
Reading through at least 30 other ideas on the community today and nearly every single one where Xero have reduced our day to day functionality, there is the same generic response from Xero (Kelly Middleton)
"We've reviewed your idea and now it's up to the community to get behind and support it. Make sure you share your idea with any colleagues that this could benefit so they can add their vote too!

We should not have to get the community behind us to restore basic functionality in the program – seriously Xero, do better
You reduce the functionality in our Xero files, but you don’t reduce the price. I am sure with all of these “new and improved features’ that you keep foisting on us, the cost of subscriptions will again go up excessively again shortly (roll around the March price increases)
That being said, why is it now with the changes to the Files section, that we have an "All Archived" folder. What used to be a very useful area of Xero when dealing with our clients accounts (especially for audit related files), is now just an absolute mess with the changes made.
And by the way Kelly, drag and drop directly into a folder is an essential part of the “files’ section of Xero. We should not have to double our workload because of changes made by your programmers, that we didn’t ask for.

@Chery
To be """fair""" to Xero, this is a problem *all throughout* the app; it's not limited to the Files screen.
My bugbear for this is the Chart of Accounts/Trial Balance, because Xero doesn't have subaccounts:
198-1
198-10
198-11
198-2
198-3
etc... -

Under the previous system this required a single click, under the new system it takes seven clicks to achieve the same outcome. In addition, the existing archive files are no longer sorted correctly by month and year, and there does not appear to be a functional search capability, making retrieval difficult. When I uploaded the bank statements using the statement number format, the system handled two-digit numbers correctly, but once I reached three digits the ordering failed. To resolve this, I had to rename all two-digit statements by adding a leading zero.I also tried renaming a statement by month (e.g., “MAR 25”), but it subsequently disappeared into a large list of older March statements with no logical order. Get rid of this time waster and revert to old workable system.

The old folder option in files was a really important to my clients and was how I could share documents in a sensible way. Please bring it back.

I echo everyone else's views. I should be allowed to choose when to archive a file!. I have active folders into which I previously dragged and dropped the relevant documents. Now I have to upload then move to archive . It is a time wasting exercise and totally counter intuitive to modern practices

This is such a pain, when you have a large volume of files to upload at one time....I am seriously beginning to think my client is outgrowing xero

No longer being able to drag a pdf attachment in an email directly in to Xero files is very annoying! A real backwards step that requires the attachment to be placed elsewhere first, then uploaded and then deleted. Oh dear!

It's forcing me to do double work. There should be an option to directly put a file into a folder of "Archive"

Please restore this important feature - now everything takes twice as long as before! How is that an improvement? I'm surprised we now have to lobby to have something we've been using for many years restored - it would have made more sense to survey your customers to see if they supported taking away this feature in the first place surely?

How could the folk at Xero not understand the how drag and drop is a fundamental.

The drag & drop feature directly into file folder was very convenient! The "new" extra step into the inbox, then archiving into the file folder does not improve the efficiency of the process.

Being able to drag & drop files into their appropriate folders was very convenient. This new update has created an extra unnecessary step in my bookkeeping work.

Direct drag and drop files is a no brainer. We need to save time not waste time with Xero!
Bring back the previous method, please. -

This new change is terrible. Please bring back the old method of manually uploading and saving to the appropriate file!

Its so frustrating, the drag and drop box also reduces in size after you have put in your first document.
It really feels like this is a step backward, you then have to do further clicks to put items in a file, when before you could see everything listed on the one screen.
They have also screwed adding files to sales invoices which is hugely frustrating for us as we have a large number of self billing invoices with excel backing data which we cant add through Dext, and Xeros support idea to "streamline" the process takes us longer than what it did before - why do i have to save an invoice before i had a document, its yet another unneeded step!

We have the same issue, this is adding extra work as we can't drag attachments from emails, we have to save to the computer first. We don't always want to email bills to our Xero inbox.

Also the drag and drop feature appears to disappear altogether in the inbox once one or more files have already been uploaded.

completely agree with comments below. this change to the file system is a backward step. it was so convenient to be able to drag and drop email attachments into the file folder. Now I am not even able to drag into the inbox. the user should be in control of where the folders are, whether in the inbox or archive and have the freedom to move around as needed. i really do not want to have to save an attachment to my pc, then upload the document to files. I am trying to reduce the amount of docs saved on the pc. this change has created extra work and changed a really handy tool into something that is clunky and not user friendly.

I struggle to see the benefit of this update. This seems like a step backwards, making my life more difficult. First of all, my folders got auto-archived. One of the folders I am still working on, but now I am unable to add files to it, because it is archived. Why can't I un-archive the folder with one click? Also, why am I not able to create folders in the Inbox anymore? This is how I used to organise invoices for my accountant. You made something that worked well worse, creating overhead for users with no obvious benefit, or what am I missing here?

Again, it wasn't broken so why try to fix it, it was fine before. Now, as Xero seems to like to do, there are several more steps that need to be taken to do what was easy in the past.
I like the archive bit but LET THE CLIENT DECIDE what goes in it.
