Manual Journals - Journal in foreign currency and see FX rate on journal
Ability to process a manual journal in foreign currency and to pull the exchange rate on the date of the journal.
Purpose: It’s beneficial for organisations who are dealing and operate with multiple currencies
Hi community, first off thank you for contributing and detailing why posting manual journals in a foreign currency is of interest to you all.
We appreciate our customers would like to see more capability in accounting for and dealing in foreign currencies across Xero.
In it's current form Manual Journals are a part of Xero that require some upgrade to uplift technology in order to provide capability for ideas like this to be considered. We have intentions of bringing attention to this over the coming year, however getting this done first is necessary before we can even think about adding newer functionality like journaling in another currency to the mix.
To set the expectation here, there is no work planned over 2023 for this feature. We know it's of high interest and when we're in a place to reassess we will share with you here.

this has been a request since 2014!!!!! And based on ALL the other missing functionality items Im signed up to - you'll be waiting at LEAST 10 YEARS ... sadly it shows how unmotivated XERO is on making their product truly fantastic ... see the attachment - I think people have just given up on expecing any product development
think how much has been achieved in the world in the last 10 years and yet adding basic functionality eludes this company

I really don’t understand why the absence of multicurrency journals still hasn’t been addressed. While flashy features may be appealing, surely the focus should be on getting the core functionality right!

Lets be straight here; Xero IS NOT MULTICURRENCY; it offers a few features that allow some basic forex transaction processing; it does not allow full functionality that including reporting and journals. I do not think Xero should represent itself as multicurrency. If I was coming to the accounting software buying decision I would not even have xero in my list.
And I agree whistles and bells may look good but base functionality is where the work is done. I think xero may need a few real accountants in their product team - people who have worked in the real world not just in software development. I'm no developer but I can show Xero what is needed and say you make that happen. Don't get dazzled by the other providers and what they are adding. Do the basics right and make the core product sing and dance. -

all these new features for dashboard etc but what we really want and need is to be able to post journals in any currency. When is it going to happen?

Been asking for this since Day 1, 4 years ago!! Xero has been adding things that users do not need!! All the changes to the aesthetics of the software is not useful. Please seriously read the requests of users and include something really useful and important. It is really unheard of that something so basic and fundamental is missing in a multi-currency software program.

I totally understand. We run a multi-currency operation and would also need to add (repeating) manual journals in a currency other than our base currency.
Not having this functionality will significantly affect how we work, adding a lot of manual effort for our Finance team. Apart from efficiency concerns, this also increases the risk of errors due to manual interventions.
It would therefore be a critical feature for us to have and frankly something we would expect from a system that offers multi-currency operations.

This is actually a very basic multi-currency accounting function, and I don't understand why XERO has so many restrictions on accounting.

So let's be honest... this is not going to happen. I've been subscribed to and monitoring this thread for over 5 years. Unfortunately Xero does not take into account such requests from accountants who need actual accounting functionality. Their focus is on small business owners and getting on the AI train.
I now have only 1 client remaining on Xero, and as soon as the entity is wound up in the current year, I will be fully detaching myself and my accounting practice from the Xero brand.
And today I will be unsubscribing from this idea thread, because it only makes me more upset seeing all of the user comments and the complete and utter disregard Xero support has for their accounting customers.

Again this needs addressing. Multi-currency manual journal is critical. Please provide an update.

Ridiculous that this isn't a feature from day 1. I think Xero would be better off admitting they don't intend to bring this in as a feature. Shocking to see how long this has been left unactioned. Customers deserve a better solution

Any multi-currency package should have the ability to journal in different currency otherwise it is an incomplete multi-currency package.

I can't believe this function, which is fundamental to a multi-currency package, still hasn't been given priority.
When can we expect it to come onboard?

this is important to us as we want to report our divisional P&Ls in USD (for the US team) and GBP (for head office) and the inability to post nominal journals in both currencies means that we cannot produce USD and GBP accounts straight out of xero - please can this be addressed asap

This is a much needed feature. We have prepayments not in our base currency which are accrued monthly and are a time consuming manual process.

I'm in the process of moving a foreign company over to Xero - one of the exciting aspects is (was) repeating journals which I have not previously had.
But seeing that Manual Journals in multi-currency is not available is making me second guess myself.
How can that actually be?
This makes me very sad. -

This was an issue for some of our clients over 12 years ago when we first started using Xero, it's a shame that Xero as an international accounting solution does not deem the issue important enough to resolve. Another work around is to post a journal as a purchase invoice in the source currency to the required nominal code, and then raise a credit note to the contra entry, albeit a work around that should be required

I cant believe I have found yet ANOTHER critical feature that has been hanging around for more than 10 years!!
the only changes Ive seen in the last 3 years are not functional and are more of a hinderance than an advance into greatness -
