Thanks for the confirmation, Ann - I've just updated the idea title and categories to get this showing where others might be interested too.

Most recently we released a new Journal report with a lot more flexibility than the older version, and should help with finding a journal you're looking for.

You can search for a journal by filtering the Journal report by description 😁

  2. Currently there is no functionality to add a line anywhere in the Journal. The current system of dragging a line from the bottom is absolutely inconvenient especially where the Journal is very long and we want to add a few lines in the beginning of the Journal.
There should be one button 'insert a line function' (next to current curser location - meaning anywhere in the journal - Like F7 in SAGE).
Also, to move to below line, we have to use mouse. Can it not be possible to use arrow keys to move up and down?
    Thank you

  3. The 300 line cap for importing journals is completely pointless and shortsighted. With MTD rules requiring digital links, importing of journals/transactions has become vital, yet Xero still retains this nonsensical limit. We are forced to manually intervene and adjust where journals are too long (makes a mockery of MTD). Excel can handle over a million lines (and has done for ~20 years now). Sage manages 999 (still limited in this day in age). Somewhere between the two would be great!
    Keep up Xero.

  4. I would like to have an option for repeating journals to be done daily. Currently you can only choose monthly or weekly.

  5. The template for importing journals is setup tax inclusive, but once imported, Xero defaults to tax exclusive and a journal including tax transactions therefore doesn't balance until you go into the draft journal itself and change back to tax inclusive!

Would be useful to be able to globally set whether imported journals are tax inclusive or exclusive. Presumably in the "Tax Defaults" section of Financial Settings.

  6. why can't we set up income allocations by %, not jnl , as every time you change something , you need to redo your jnl, update work papers etc. There must times when finals have been sent out ( Urgent) and this has been over looked
This is a rather backwards step, esp when a trust could have 10 beneficiaries and need to do jnls ?!
Would also affect partnerships, they would be the easiest to fix as majority would be a 50/50

  7. Have the ability to create Manual Repeat Journals for older date ranges (3 years ago). The current restrictions on this should be allowed once a Lock Date is implemented.

Otherwise you get an error like:
The Next Journal Date entered is prior to the start of your previous financial year.

    This is very fustrating.

  8. Placeholders are really useful in repeating manual journal entry - could we please have them in regular manual journals?

Oftentimes it will be necessary to repeat a series of manual entries when realising income in advance as revenue however the amounts will vary so a manual journal is required for each instance.

Being able to have [Month] etc in the narration would make it much faster to populate each entry. [Example: "Revenue realised in [Month]"

  9. It would be useful in the manual journal screen if it indicated there were draft manual journals without having to click on the tab. When using repeating journals which are saved as draft each month you have to remember they are there to attend to.

  10. Ability to set as default whether the "Show journal on cash basis reports" should be ticked or un-ticked on manual journals

Purpose: Because accountants that does the annual journals for clients who do their own GST we don't usually want these journals to show the late GST claims

Hi team! We've been following the conversation here and appreciate you taking the time to explain the need for this feature.

We understand you’re looking for a way to change the default setting for the ‘Show journal on cash basis reports’ checkbox in manual journals, so that it’s unticked, and that having this box ticked by default can create inaccurate cash basis reports, which is particularly challenging when you’re correcting entries or dealing with a high volume of journals.

We may look into this with a finer lens further down the line, but want to share that there's no immediate works planned to enable changing the default for whether a journal is Cash basis.

As many of you have noted, right now you'll need to manually untick the box for each journal entry.

If any change is planned for this we'll be sure to share with you all, here.

  11. Adding description when users export Manual Journals in PDF.

Purpose: Users’ can have better notes, as they can see the description in the PDF document.

Hi team, we appreciate the conversation however we want to be open that we don't have any short term plans for changing the export of Manual Journals in the near term.

Not getting a lot of community support over time, this idea will soon be removed. If it something you feel very passionate about you are welcome to restart and see if there is renewed interest from the community.

  12. Ability to process a manual journal in foreign currency and to pull the exchange rate on the date of the journal.

Purpose: It’s beneficial for organisations who are dealing and operate with multiple currencies

Hi community, first off thank you for contributing and detailing why posting manual journals in a foreign currency is of interest to you all.

We appreciate our customers would like to see more capability in accounting for and dealing in foreign currencies across Xero.

In it's current form Manual Journals are a part of Xero that require some upgrade to uplift technology in order to provide capability for ideas like this to be considered. We have intentions of bringing attention to this over the coming year, however getting this done first is necessary before we can even think about adding newer functionality like journaling in another currency to the mix.

To set the expectation here, there is no work planned over 2023 for this feature. We know it's of high interest and when we're in a place to reassess we will share with you here.

  13. To have an option to automatically update the reversing journal.

Purpose: To save time and help avoid errors in updating both entries.

Hi community, thanks for your input and support into this idea for auto updating related journals when an auto-reversing journal is edited.

While the team began to look into work involved, priorities have shifted and this is not something we'll be looking to develop at this time.

We'll move the status back to submitted and keep you informed if there is any movement.

  14. The ability to assign contact in manual journals.

Purpose: To enable to track journal entries with contact name

Thanks for your interest and sharing your needs in being able to add a Contact to Manual journals you post in Xero. We know this is important for customers and enabling this capability is on our product team's roadmap.

Right now, they're currently focused on other important items of work, however as soon as we're able to dedicate resource to this I'll be back with a further update to share progress with everyone, here.
