NZ Payroll | Employees - Enter hours worked per day
Would be great if the days per week and the hours per day could be for each day rather than a total amount. Sarah does a total of 30 hours per week
Monday - 0hours
Tuesday - 6 hours
Wed- Fri - 8 hours per day
but because we cant specify what days we have had to go 4 days per week with total hours per day 7.5. This is confusing to look at but we also have to remember when it is a public holiday to change it. Would be good if we could specify the hours worked per day as I am sure there are plenty of part timers out there that have different hours.

Hi everyone, you can now create new working patterns for employees which allow you to add in the specific days and hours they are contracted to work!
This improves the default hours used in calculations around public holidays, leave requests, the first pay, the last pay and when working patterns change during the pay period. Thanks again for all your feedback on this here.

I see this has been rolled out to the UK, what about the rest of the world? We have been "tricking" Xero for the last 7 years with the hours we have to put in for payroll which causes so many manual adjustments and room for error. We have flexible working so can we please get the same ability to custom working weeks or patterns of work for our employees? I don't understand why you can create such a crucial development piece for one country and not realise it is needed across the wider platform?

100% critical

100% agreed. We have staff that do different hours during each day or different days depending on the week but a standard amount of contracted hours.
Not having this function makes leave etc much more difficult than it needs to be.
In a time of increased flexible working this will only become more important!

Absolutely agree - this is fundamental in a payroll system. Having to make these adjustments manually is inefficient and time consuming when dealing with sick leave, annual leave and Public Holidays.

Yes please! This is so so needed. Having to make these adjustments manually leaves far to much room for error. Would also make things like sick and annual leave as well as Public Holidays much more straightforward.

Or at the very least, have the ability to add a standard roster for an employee where that differs from the assumed business week

I prepare wages for several retail clients where they are open 7 days / week. When entering annual leave dates Xero assumes they only work week days and therefore if I include a date including a Saturday and/or Sunday it doesn't add this as leave. Although easy to override and put in the correct amount of hours taken shouldn't the assumption that everyone works 5 days / week Monday to Friday be removed?

Now that we have more employees in NZ that have flexible contracts (not just 8 hours 5 days etc) hopefully Xero can look into this as an option.

Agree. We have the same issue where one of our employee's has varying hours each day.
Mon @ 3hrs, Tues @ 3hrs, Wed @ 2hrs, Thurs @ 7hrs and Fri @ 5hrs.It makes it a bit messy that there is no option on Xero to enter hours per day. I know other payroll systems provide the option to do so and t amazes me that a big company like Xero doesn't.

Yes totally agree with Sharon on this. I had posted a month or so about this but no response or votes. You have worded a lot better than me however.
Makes sense -

It would be great to have the option to pay staff based on a daily rate and to have it show like that on their payslip rather than having to calculate it in hours.

In Employment Info rather than having 'Days per week' and 'Hours per day' it would be great to be able to put the hours in each day. ie I have staff member that works 6 hours on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and 7 hours on a Friday but I have had to enter 4 days a week 6.25 hrs a day because there is no other option. Most other payroll packages I use allows the full breakdown of hours.
