  1. Could there please be a facility to post journals between contacts (either supplier or customer) for example between BT Telecom and EDF energy
Currently there is only the facility to post journals between nominal ledger codes.
    Many thanks

Hi Julie, could you explain a little more the scenarios in which you'd be looking to make use of a this sort of functionality?

At present - if the transactions has originally be assigned to the wrong contact this can be edited.

Understanding more of the use case may help us find another solution for you here, although I don't want to be open that we don't have plans for enabling transfers between contacts.

  2. The new invoicing update has significantly slowed down my workflow. Previously, the sales account category and GST were automatically applied to all line items on draft invoices created via Projects add on. Now, I must manually input these details on every line, and I can’t save the draft invoice without doing so. We have very long invoices and this is now causing a lot of extra work. Opening case requests has led to empty promises that the developers are aware and are onto it and so I'm posting here in the hope that Xero might listen to this request for…

Hi there 👋, appreciate you raising this through product ideas in the hopes of getting more attention for this issue.

I've taken a look and can see your communications with our Xero Support team, and that this has been raised directly with our product teams. While I have also shared your feedback directly with product on this, I want to be open that the best method to stay updated will be with our specialists via your case on Xero central. As soon as they have any updates they will share with you. I'll soon remove your post from the ideas forum here.

In the meantime, as they suggested the best solution would be to raise the invoice through Sales and then assign the invoice to your Project.

  3. Include an extra tab that summarises the totals for the Tax Rates including the cents.

This will eliminate the need to scroll through all the detail to code the journal/payment.

Hi team, I know it's been sometime since this idea was originally raised and we wanted to provide an update for you all here.

Xero's Activity Statement report today has two tabs - Summary and Transactions.

The Summary tab summarises the Tax Rates totals of all transactions. This shows a round number without cents in line with ATO. Transactions tab includes all transactions associated with the Activity Statement period.

You can find more detail about how Xero populates the Activity Statement on Xero Central.

  4. It would be beneficial to be able to edit transactions via Xero Expenses.

I find if a client has approved something to the wrong code you have to remove the whole transaction and redo it. In Xero normally you can Edit a transaction.
I have checked with Xero and that is the only current resolution.

Xero is usually so user friendly but this way is time consuming and slow. Thanks

Hi Antony, when processing expenses on the Xero Me app there is the option to edit an expense that has been submitted on both iOS and Android.

On iOS this is available from the Options menu, and on Android you'll want to tap the 3 dots in the top right of the claim. 😊

  5. Hey - when making a custom report it would be really useful to be able to show the movement in balance sheet codes. For example, when preparing our month end summary we can't bring in the capitalised wages cost automatically because it brings in the cumulative balance, rather than the balance for the period. To be honest it's crazy to me that this doesn't exist, but would be great if it could!

Thanks for submitting your idea on Xero Product Idea's, Ryan. We appreciate you taking your time to share changes that would be most meaningful to you.

Being open, we don't have any current plans for changing the Custom report behaviour but we'll continue to track the interest through your idea here and will update if there is any changes to share.

  6. I have a client that sometimes has 20+ inventory items on a bill, with similar description, but sizes different. They enter bill in a logical sequential order, but when you add them to the invoice, all to same invoice, its not split between different customers, the items are in a different order with no order, not even items code. IT frustrating client in the process to reorder the items it taking much longer

  7. Current volume limit is too low. I can't even run the account transaction report including all the account codes for the whole financial year. It's not ideal to run a few report and add together. Strongly recommend Xero increasing the volume limit for the report.

  8. Currently you can add a discount of any amount including 100% on an invoice. However if you have a 100% discount the nominal ledger account doesn't save - so you can't report on it. We would like to know all subsidies across all courses but can't currently do this as if we have a fully funded course the NL code won't save so is left blank.

  9. Transactions imported by Yodlee Bank Feed do not display in the chronological order that they occur in my online banking portal or bank statements.

As I have a lot of bank transactions on any given day, this makes it time consuming to do any kind of reconciliation between by online bank account and my bank feed import as I have to match each transaction up in the different orders they appear.

This is a regular occurrence as Yodlee sometimes imports transactions part way through a day and I have to work out where I got up to processing these transactions…

  10. We're only a small business with a lot of recurring revenue and expenses. We use the The P&L to track changes in activity from month to month. It would be really useful to be indicate any changes from the previous month that with an up (^) or down (v) indication, or maybe a color indication.

To remove distractions, it would be useful to associate a tolerance (+/-% or value) to each account code. Changes below that tolerance would be ignored.

I'm not an accountant, but having talked to a few, they seem to use a similar technique when looking for…

  11. Dear Sir/Madam,

When I download custom xero template it has «PaymentImage» code.
I would like to upload my own image different from Payment Service image to the bottom of the standard invoice same as logo, then I will not need to use a custom PDF template.

    Could you add this option?

PDF invoices are not convenient as it requires invoice to have Sent status to print PDF. And no quick preview availiable, so no option to preview custom invoice prior sending it.
I don't need saving every preview PDF invoice perhaps it can just open in a new tab without…

  12. I create a purchase order through the Xero App
I go to Categorise to an account - on my iPhone it has a search accounts feature, on my colleagues Samsung phone there is no search feature - he has to scroll through all the accounts listed to find the correct accounting code
Will this feature be added to Samsung phones?

We also found this was the same when selecting Projects or Plant (tracking categories), on my iPhone I had a search feature, on his Samsung he did not and again would have to scroll through the extensive list we have…

  13. When I enter the month of the bank statement with the bank statement beginning and ending balances and want to make sure all of the transactions from that month's bank statement are accounted for, checks that were written in a previous month but not posted in the bank statement until another month aren't showing up in coded transactions in the month where the bank transaction occurred. The reconciliation with the check payment and the bank transaction can be made, but the transaction doesn't show up in coded transactions section of the bank reconciliation detail report for the month the bank…

Thank you for sharing this detailed idea about how the reporting date is handled for reconciled checks.

We understand the issue you've described. When a check from a previous period clears the bank, the reconciliation report posts the transaction to the month the check was written, not the month it actually appeared on the bank statement. We can definitely see how this makes it challenging to use the report to verify a specific month's bank activity.

We're grateful for your engagement and letting us know the changes that matter to you. We've reviewed your idea and now it can gain support from other community members. Along with votes, others can now comment to share additional detail about how changing the reporting date for reconciled transactions could improve their experience with Xero.

  14. Please introduce the ability to connect a wider range of Virgin Money business accounts. At present this is limited to accounts with sort codes starting with 05 or 82. All other accounts, e.g. their high interest savings account that my business has, are forced to do manual uploads of statements.

We pay Xero enough, and you are happy to shout about less useful changes you make to products so can we have some actual improvements that save small businesses admin time for once!

Sorry to hear the troubles you're running into here, Rob. If the Virgin Money account has a sort code that begins with 08, then you should be able to connect the account by selecting an alternative bank on the account in Xero. The bank name to choose would be: "Virgin Money Credit Cards (UK)".

If you've tried this and you're experiencing performance issues, or something isn't working as you'd expect it to, it's best looked into with a closer lens. Please raise a case with our Xero Support team on Xero Central and our specialists can investigate with you 1-1. Thanks!

  15. Report for "Account Transactions" should only produce one line per transaction.

Currently, the report splits off a separate line for the PST component of each transaction, adding "- PST" in the description and to the contact name, and pulls the PST amount out of "Gross".

I need an account transaction report that includes GST, PST and the unit price in "gross" on a single line per transaction. These gross values will match the bank statement, and have the description/reference/contact and the account(s) the transaction was coded to.

The easiest approach is to have additional columns to select from, and (critically)…

  16. Turnover per XERO and VAT declared Net Sales should be ideally Equal ,however often may not match and therefore need reconciling-which is important to understand the difference from both the YE accounts and HMRC point of view .

There should be a report in XERO which can facilitate this reconciliation rather than use spreadsheets -which is time consuming when the information is already existing in XERO

One of difference arising is -"The Date" invoice created and approved -are different and will report in different periods of the VAT return and Xero Sales Nominal Account

Example -Invoice created and left as…

  17. We recently had an employee which had a leave type reinstated after a period of over 12 months of it not being used. There was a balance sitting in there for the duration of time that it wasn’t active, and therefore not showing on any payslips that were provided to the employee or filed. We are now in a position that we had to reactive this leave type to be in line with STP requirements and showing leave loading on a separate line. When we reactivated this leave type, ALL payslips for the period of over 12 months were updated…

Hey Amy, I know it's been a little while since you started your idea here. Taking another read through the situation you described, there are a couple of options which depend on whether you need a record of the adjustment.

    • If you do need a record of the adjustment you'd want to post an unscheduled pay run to reverse out the leave balance for the pay period in which it should have been paid out.
    • In the case you don't need a record, you could simply adjust the opening balance for the leave type within the employee's record.

We have help for both of these processes detailed in this article on Xero Central.

  18. I recently commented about the new invoicing not showing credit notes available, what I didn't realise that this was only for Repeating Invoices, not standard generated invoices which do infact show the credit available.

Some of our regular clients like to prepay so there are often credits to use. Upon approving a repeating invoice, the classic used to say there was a credit available on that contact, click here to use it. There is no such feature on the new repeating invoicing to indicate there is a credit available you have to go and manually check. As well as not…

Hi Claire, I've tried replicating your scenario here using both a newly created and an existing repeating template.

In both cases when I open an invoice that has been generated from the template and credit is available I can see an option on the invoice to Apply credit (as shown in my image)

Could you please raise a case on this with our Xero support team on Xero Central. They have tools to be able to look into this deeper and confirm what's going on and why credit is not appearing for application in your invoices.

Interesting way of considering how this feature could work, Theresa.

It'd be good to see if others in the community would find this workflow useful to them as well. We'll keep an eye on the support for this here.

  20. In Xero’s current TPAR setup, there’s no field to enter a country code for suppliers. This becomes a problem when reporting overseas suppliers. I received a validation error from the ATO: "The Postcode field is 9999 therefore the Country field cannot be blank or a country name other than Australia must be entered." To prevent this issue and simplify reporting, it would be helpful if the Country field auto-filled with "AU" by default, but remained editable for cases involving international suppliers.
